âI donât think thatâs possible. The two people you have sent over to watch my niece and nephew are still here. What if I go over now and something happens to my niece and nephew? How am I supposed to face my brother and sister-in-law then?â
Sophia tried to suppress the rage that surged through her body. The more aggravated she was right now, the easier it was to be thrown into passivity.
Her current situation was already passive enough for her.
After a moment of contemplation, Sylvia replied, âIf thatâs what youâre worried about, itâs nothing.â
With that, she said to someone beside her, âLeila, call the two of them and have them come back right now.â
The person by the name of Leila mumbled a response.
Then, Sylvia continued, âWhat about now, little girl? Can you come over now?â
âHow do I know youâre not just putting on a show for me?â Sophia replied.
Sylvia was in no hurry. âCharles is already in jail now, heâs my bargaining chip if I need anything from you so your niece and nephew are no longer needed anymore. However, I can understand your concerns. Just wait for a minute, they shouldnât take long to leave the house.â
From what she was saying, it seemed that she had really asked her two subordinates who were watching the twins leave.
Still, Sophia refused to believe her so easily. There was nothing wrong with being cautious anyway.
The night was cold and Sophia was particularly sensitive to the cold now. Her hand had turned red after holding her phone for a while out in the chill.
About three to five minutes later, two people walked out of the house.
They walked to Sophia and bowed in front of her respectfully. âMs. White, weâre the ones taking care of the little young madam and little young master. Would you like to come with us to see Ms. Yates, or would you prefer to go over by yourself?â
There was no way Sophia would go to meet Sylvia alone. She gave her bodyguards a look, signaling them to grab hold of the two maids.
The two bodyguards replied with a firm nod.
However, before they even took action, Sylviaâs voice sounded from the phone. âI believe my helper just asked you a question, why are you taking so long to reply? Sophia, youâre not thinking of using them to threaten me, are you?â
âYouâre overthinking.â This was certainly what Sophia had in mind, and she did not like the feeling of having her plans exposed.
âYou should know better than me whether Iâm overthinking. However, I would advise you not to do that or Charles might suffer in jail,â Sylvia said.
Sophia instantly frowned. âIf you can make Charles suffer in jail, donât you think Iâll do the same to your helpers?â
Sylvia laughed out loud as if she had just heard a hilarious joke. âI canât be bothered even if you kill them, I just need to pay a little extra sum of money to their families.â
âLet them go,â Sophia turned around and ordered her bodyguards as her grip around her phone tightened.
The feeling of being constrained made her feel as if she was locked up in a sealed space, and everywhere she touched was just a wall but she could not find an exit.
She felt frustrated, mad, and helpless!
The bodyguards let go of the two women.
âAlright, I have expressed my sincerity. You should be able to come and meet me now, shouldnât you? Sophia, you already turned me down twice and I really hope there wonât be a third.â
Sophia was forced into a dead-end once again. With no other alternatives, she gritted her teeth and agreed.
She went into the house and gave the maids strict orders before asking her bodyguards to send her and the two helpers over to Sylviaâs place.
The only thing to be thankful for now was that Sylvia did not specify for her to go over alone.
Sylvia resided in a villa located in the outskirts. Although she was a retired award-winning actress, her villa was much more luxurious and grand than the White familyâs manor.
As soon as Sophia entered the living room, she immediately saw Sylvia sitting on the sofa with her legs crossed while elegantly sipping her tea.
Sitting beside her was a handsome middle-aged man who was currently massaging her arm.
âYouâre here!â Sylvia placed the teacup on the coffee table and smiled at her. âHave a seat.â
âThereâs no need for that. Itâs getting late now, you should just get straight to the point and get it over with so I can leave,â Sophia replied in a cool tone.
She casually looked around to check her surroundings. Aside from a maid in the corner of the room, there was nobody else present aside from the few of them.
Though, there was the possibility that there were others hidden around the land guarding the villa.
Upon hearing this, Sylvia raised a brow tentatively. âAre you acting so haughty because of them?â
She pointed her perfectly manicured finger at Sophiaâs bodyguards.
Before Sophia could respond, Sylvia spoke, âWhat are you guys standing there stupidly for? Go do whatever youâre supposed to do. You can come back and send this silly little girl back once weâre done talking later.â
â!â Sophiaâs eyes widened in disbelief. What was the meaning of this?
She swept her gaze through the bodyguards who bowed before Sylvia and left the room without another glance.
Charles was the one who hired these bodyguards, no?
How did they turn out to be Sylviaâs underlings?
âAre you wondering why on earth are they listening to my commands?â Sylvia leaned on the sofa and looked at her lazily.
This was the first time the old woman had seen through her thoughts, and her face instantly paled as her palms began sweating.
The sense of helplessness was returning.
âThereâs no point telling you so I wonât say anything more than is needed,â Sylvia said as she made a welcoming sort of gesture, âCan you sit down now so we can talk?â
With the current circumstances, she could only take one step at a time now.
Sophia walked to the sofa across Sylvia and took a seat. Sitting down was a nice way to describe what she was doing as she merely placed her butt on the far edge of the sofa.
âYou donât have to be so tense. Here, have a drink.â Sylvia signaled her maid and someone came forward to pour Sophia a cup of tea.
The crystal clear tea swirled in the cup and exuded a fresh herbal fragrance. Just one look was enough to tell that this was good tea.
However, who knew if there was anything added to it?
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 388 Sorry For Breaking Your Heart Sophia briefly glanced at the cup of tea before her and looked away. âYou went through such an elaborate charade to get me here so letâs just get straight to the point now.â
She was nowhere as good as Sylvia when it came to scheming, so it was only best for them to be straightforward from this point onward.
âI like how straightforward you are, unlike that little brat from the Jones family. Sheâs so conniving, dropping hints in everything she says,â Sylvia said with a chuckle.
Sophia was in no mood to gossip with her, and so she asked, âDid you do all this to break me and Charles up? I canât think what good it would do you if we break up though.â
This time, Sylvia kept quiet. She merely patted Jaxâs hand, indicating for him to speak.
âSylvia is Charlesâ paternal grandmother. Naturally, everything she does is for his own good, what other benefits would she possibly want? All of you corporate people are so fixated on profits and losses to the point that you think people only do things that benefit them.â
Sylvia heaved a heavy sigh. âWhen I went to my son and Charles, they reacted the same way as you did. They think that thereâs something in it for me, but all of you seem to forget something. I live a worry-free life, I have everything I want as well as a reputable status, what more would I want from them?â
Sophia had never heard Charles talk about Sylvia, but she remembered the incident where he was kidnapped by this grandmother of his to blackmail his grandfather when he was fifteen.
Although Sylvia managed to prove herself innocent and netizens believed that it was all a misunderstanding, she heard the truth from her parents, and it was certainly no misunderstanding ââ it was a premeditated kidnapping!
Yet, here Sylvia was going on about how she was doing this for Charlesâ good. Did Sylvia think of her as an idiot?
