She had chased after him for so many years. As long as he did not chase her away, she would be ecstatic.
She simply thought that he was cold and did not know how to treat people well. She thought that as long as she was good to him, then it would be fine.
She did not expect that... She found out today that he was not cold, he just did not care about her.
Leah looked at the food on her plate. There was an obvious surprise in her eyes. âThank you, Charles.â
âDo you like this?â Charles put down the chopsticks and picked up his own. âIâll ask the waiter to send more here.â
Leahâs eyes lit up as she nodded with a faint blush on her cheeks.
Sophia stood in front of the table with her head lowered. She could feel the jealousy filling her chest. She felt like insects were gnawing her heart. She could feel her heart throbbing in pain.
âHello, Mr. Harris, Miss Jones.â Meganâs eyes lit up when she saw Charles and Leah. She greeted them in a reserved manner.
Sophia forced out a smile. However, the smile did not reach her eyes. âSorry to disturb you guys.â
âI was worried that you wonât come over because youâre ashamed.â Leah sighed helplessly. Then, she smiled gently. âItâs fine now that youâre here. Sit down.â
âThank you, Miss Jones.â Megan smiled and thanked. She pulled Sophia to sit on one of the empty chairs. When everyone was not paying attention, she asked quietly, âWhy did Miss Leah say youâd be ashamed to come over?â
Sophiaâs body tensed up. She did not say anything for a long while.
âItâs nothing. She crashed her car into me and broke my leg.â Leahâs voice was soft. She said in an apologizing tone, âWeâre too close. Iâm sorry for eavesdropping.â
âItâs fine. Itâs fine.â Megan waved her hand and smiled timidly. She felt awkward and shocked.
So, the person who Sophia attempted to murder was the young mistress of the Whites!
âYou donât have to be embarrassed. Youâre not the one who ran the car over me.â Leah smiled and said in a disappointing voice, âPlus, I never blamed Sophia. I just feel sad because Iâll never be able to dance again.â
âWere you a dancer?â Megan asked in surprise.
William looked at Leah. There was darkness in his eyes. âBallet world champion.â
If Leah had not approached Sophia for him, this would not have happened.
âShe was the world champion?â Megan covered her mouth. âHow unfortunate. If I were you, Miss Jones, I will never forgive the person who broke my leg.â
After she finished saying that, she realized what she just said and chuckled timidly. She tilted her head to look at Sophia. âYou didnât do it on purpose, right?â
âIt doesnât matter if itâs on purpose or not. Leah will never be able to dance anyway.â Williamâs face fell.
No one said anything. The atmosphere was extremely awkward.
Charles was the only one who was still eating. His movements were elegant and poised. He was not affected by them at all.
âAlright, Iâve already said that I donât blame Sophia.â Leah forced out a smile on her face. âIt doesnât matter if I canât dance anymore. Stop dwelling on this depressing topic.â
Megan looked at Leahâs pretty features. She truly felt pitiful for the kind and generous Miss Jones.
âArenât you the one who keeps on talking about this topic?â Charles placed his chopsticks down and leaned backward to his seat. He looked at Leah with a fake smile on his face.
Leah lowered her head and said after biting her lip, âIâm sorry. I shouldnât bring this up.â
âWas Charles standing up for Sophia?â
She looked at her paralyzed right leg. She felt wronged and sad.
Sophia glanced at Charles. Her heart started to beat faster. However, she lowered her head quickly and suppressed the strange emotions surfacing in her heart.
âYou donât have to apologize.â William could not stand it when Leah felt aggrieved. He looked at Sophia with an icy gaze. âYouâre just telling the truth.â
âBut this will only make Sophia feel bad.â Leahâs voice was very soft. Her eyes were red. âI just want to invite her for a meal, and now, Iâve ruined everything.â
âShe should think about the consequences when she did that. She has to live with this for the rest of her life. Youâre the victim. You donât have to blame yourself.â William was feeling horrible. His sister was always so considerate. This was a huge disadvantage.
Charles chuckled. There was sarcasm on his lips. âBlame herself?â
Was Leah going overboard or was William blind?
âItâs all my fault. I shouldnât have brought this up.â Leah bit her lip and said, âSophia, Miss, do you have anything you want to eat?â
She scanned Megan and Sophia. Her eyes stopped on Sophia for a while. There was a flash of hatred and jealousy in her eyes.
Ever since Megan found out that Sophia was the one who broke Leahâs leg, she felt extremely awkward. However, she could not leave now. She could only order two of her favorite food.
Sophia was holding the menu. She ordered something as well.
However, when the food got here, she noticed they were all Charlesâ favorite food.
She looked at Charles with her head tilted. He was only looking at Leah, so he did not notice this.
She licked her lips. Bitterness spread across her heart.
âSophia, your stomach is not well. Can you eat these uncooked and cold food?â Megan looked at the food she ordered and asked softly.
âThese are not for me,â Sophia answered softly. âThese are for Mr. Harris.â
She picked up a piece of sashimi and placed it onto Charlesâ plate. âI remember you like this.â
Charles stared at her with his dark eyes. It was as if he could see through her.
She had been trying to please him ever since last night.
Sophiaâs eyes glistened. She picked up some salmon and other food that he liked for him.
William looked at her and frowned. He felt slightly frustrated.
âDid you use your own chopsticks?â Leah said in surprise. âCharles is a neat-freak. Your saliva is on the chopsticks. He wonât eat them.â
Sophia stopped and apologized. âIâll go get a new plate.â

ï¤Chapter 40 We Don't Do Fanservice In The Club âNo need. We can just ask a waiter to do it.â Leah said tauntingly, âHave you been working as a janitor and hostess in Dream Club for too long until youâve developed this habit?â
âIâll go get the plates.â Sophia smoothened her shirt and stood up to look for the waiter.
When she came back with the plates, she glanced at Charlesâ plate. He had not touched the food she took for him.
Her eyes darkened as she placed the plate in front of him.
Halfway eating, she could not stand Leahâs sham anymore. She made up an excuse to go to the restroom.
William followed behind her. When she was almost at the entrance of the restroom, he grabbed her arm from behind. âDid you purposely follow Charles here?â
âNo.â Sophia frowned and swung his hand away.
âNo?â Williamâs amber eyes were filled with sarcasm. âSo, itâs a coincidence youâre here in this mall? Itâs a coincidence that you came to this shop for lunch at the same time weâre here and ran into us?â
