Chapter 377

On the sixth day, there was finally movement within the Jones family.

At the Russell family home.

Leah sat across Master Russell as they discussed business. Although her expression was calm and collected, her palms were sweating bullets.

This was her first time meeting this legendary figure and on top of that, she was doing business with him! She was both excited and nervous.

“Are you done speaking?” Master Russell gave his maid a look and she came forward to pour Leah a cup of tea.

Leah nodded and replied, “Although the White family’s reputation is quite tainted as of now, they have two newly developed drug treatments on-hand.

If you take over our part of the shares, you’ll surely earn very big profits in time!”

“If there are big profits in play, why don’t Jones Group keep it for yourself then?” Master Russell adjusted his glasses as he looked through today’s newspaper.

Leah sighed gently. “To be honest, I knew we would earn profits and that’s why I tried so hard to persuade my family to buy these shares. However, in order to acquire these shares in such a short period of time, we had to put some of our fixed assets up to take a mortgage from the bank. The payment deadline is coming soon but we still don’t have enough money to pay off our debt.”

This was the excuse she had thought of before implementing the plan.

Master Russell smiled as he flipped the page, not giving any response to what Leah had just said.

“So... what do you think?” Leah asked cautiously.

Master Russell put down the newspapers and right away, a maid came over and picked up the newspaper, and as if it was a habit, she respectfully took the pair of glasses from Master Russell as well.

“You said it yourself, it all depends on the two drug treatments but this prerequisite is a huge bet.”

Upon hearing this, Leah immediately felt anxious. She forced herself to calm down and replied, “I can guarantee you that these two drug treatments will be successful. Once they are released to the market, they will certainly bring in a huge...”

Leah’s mind went blank as she felt like her world was about to crumble. “Master Russell, please, I just want to talk to you!”

She was about to run after the old man but the second she took two steps forward, she was stopped by two of his maids. “Ms. Jones, please leave now!”

Leah had never acted so unruly in her life before. She felt as if she was drowning in fear and she was struggling to grasp her last glimmer of hope.

However, the two maids were quite persistent as well so Leah was unable to fight through them. She merely watched as Master Russell disappeared from the corner of the stairs.

... She was done for!

Leah crumpled to the ground and her eyes went empty.

Everything had gone according to plan so how did it turn out this way?

As soon as Master Russell got upstairs, he made a call. In a gentle and affectionate tone, he said, “Sterling, my friend, I have just turned down Ms.

Jones’ offer. You may proceed with your plan.”

Leah stumbled her way back to Jones Group, still in her daze and her mind completely blank.

“Ms. Jones, you’re back! The chairman has asked us to tidy up the chief financial director’s office for you and he’s there waiting for you now.” Her secretary came up to her.

Waiting for her in her office?

For a second, Leah almost forgot to breathe. She wanted to smile at her secretary but she could not bring herself to react. “I... I don’t feel too well now, I think I’ll drop by the hospital for a bit. Can you please tell my grandfather to not wait for me?”

With that, she turned around to leave.

Meanwhile, Master Jones who had been waiting at her office was getting impatient, so he decided to come out for a breather and just happened to hear her words.

“Wait a minute, young lady,” he called out from behind.

Leah’s heart sank immediately. She desperately wanted to sprint away but she had no choice but to turn around.

“I’m just here to ask you about something, you can go to the hospital after that,” Master Jones said sternly before turning back to the office.

Leah furrowed her brows. Trying hard not to tremble, she followed Master Jones in and closed the door behind her.

Master Jones was not the only person in the office as William and Audrey were present as well. The supposedly spacious office room suddenly felt crowded.

“Your sister-in-law isn’t very happy that you’re back as the chief financial director so I had her come over to hear about what you have done so that she and your brother wouldn’t have anything to be upset about.” The three of them younger ones stood together in a row whereas Master Jones took a seat on the couch.

Leah began staring at her brother the moment she entered the room but not once did he look back at her. He merely cast her a casual glance that was filled with contempt and disgust.

Ever since the truth about the car accident broke out, her brother had only been looking at her with those eyes.

“It’s not that I feel unhappy, I just feel it’s unfair for William. After all, Leah has more control over the company and many of the employees only listen to her orders.”

“As long as Leah is capable and worthy of her position, I definitely won’t complain. Leah, you’re a wise woman yourself, I’m sure you can understand my concerns right?” Audrey said.

All in all, Leah was still a part of the Jones family, so Master Jones could not help but feel uncomfortable after hearing Audrey’s remarks.

He coughed lightly. “Leah, I saw that there is more negative press on the White family that just broke the internet, and White Industries’ opening price has just hit an all-time low today. Have you talked to Master Russell?”

Their original plan was to sell off the White Industries’ shares on their hands and leak out all of the White family’s negative news.

Leah’s eyes widened as her face instantly paled. “The news... are already leaked?”

The shares were already hard to handle even without the two new drug treatments, but now that the bad press was leaked, how could they possibly sell off the shares?

The situation was very clear now. Her mentor and Sterling had set her up!

“Yeah, weren’t you the one who leaked them? Though, I think some of the news are too exaggerated, the White family might just make false countercharges!”

Leah forced herself to remain calm but her legs buckled beneath her and she collapsed on the floor.

Seeing this, Master Jones immediately noticed that something did not seem right. “Leah, what’s wrong?”

Leah’s face was as pale as a sheet and she kept quiet.

How was she going to explain to her father?

She was set up by those bunch of people and the shares were going to rot in their hands...

William’s heart winced as he stared at her. He wanted to help her up but the moment he took a step forward, he immediately moved back.

She had lied to him so many times in the past, how could he know that this was not another one of her acts!
