âDonât touch me!â Sophia pushed him away as her face paled.
The mere thought of him being related to her motherâs death broke her heart!
Charles grabbed onto her hand and pulled him into his arms. With a gentle sigh, he said, âI havenât even finished talking, why are you jumping to conclusions?â
âDonât say anything more, I donât want to hear it!â Sophia tried to push him away as she felt her chest getting heavier by the second. âBeing with you was a mistake from the very beginning!â
If she had not fallen in love with him back then and fought to be together with him, the White family would not have fallen to this state today!
Charlesâs expression darkened when he heard the last part of her sentence. âDonât you dare talk about how us being together is a mistake, I donât want to hear it ever again.â
âYou donât want to hear it? Itâs just the truth though, isnât it?â Sophiaâs eyes were bloodshot. âIf I hadnât fallen in love with you, we wouldnât be in this mess right now and my mother wouldnât... wouldnât have died either!â
Dad was not entirely wrong, she was the reason her mother was dead now...
Charlesâs heart winced when he saw her tear-streaked face and reached his arms around to hug her.
âDonât touch me!â Sophia struggled with all her might to break free from his grasp but he did not budge. Red anger flashed across her eyes and she bit on his shoulder.
To think that she had told her sister-in-law that she trusted him! How ridiculous of her!
She tasted a mixture of tears and blood in her mouth and the metallic taste repulsed her. However, she kept on biting with no intention of letting go.
Charles kept his arms around her as well, with one hand gently stroking her back. He felt distressed and at the same time, amused. âCanât you let me finish talking? I am indeed involved in your motherâs death but itâs because someone is trying to frame me.â
He planted a kiss on her temple. âDo you understand me now? Silly little girl.â
Sophia stiffened up and finally let go of his shoulder.
He was being framed?
Charles did not do it?
âWhat about the phonecall I heard just now? You were asking someone to take care about Mom and to delete all the chat records! Why would you do that if youâre being framed?â
She desperately wanted to believe him but she had heard him say those things himself!
Charles raised an eyebrow. âSo you heard everything.â
He figured it out when he noticed her strange expression earlier. âLetâs say that Iâm just worried that the person framing me might use them against me, would you believe me?â
Sophia looked up at him and pushed him away all of a sudden while he was off guard. âThe chat records were in Momâs phone. How did you find out about them if you werenât the one who did it?â
âYour sister-in-law sent it to me.â Seeing that she refused to believe him, Charlesâs expression darkened.
There was nothing he could say though. If it was not for all the things he had done in the past to hurt her, she would have easily trusted him wholeheartedly, and not be in a spot where she could not bring herself to trust him.
â!â Blood drained from her face.
Nicole sent him the messages?
How was this possible?
When her sister-in-law had sent her those chat records earlier, she reminded her countless times to not let Charles know it, had she not?
Charles did not explain further. He simply took out his phone and pulled out his chat with Nicole and handed Sophia his phone.
Sophia took the phone. Her hand was trembling so badly that she could barely tap on the phone.
How was this possible?
Ever since the car accident happened, the only people she trusted in this world were Ster and Nicole. Nicole had always been so kind to her, so how could she do such a thing behind her back?
âItâs fine if you donât want to see it, you donât have to force yourself.â Charles had once considered helping Sophia grow but when he realized that he could not bear the sight of her being miserable, he ultimately gave up on that plan.
Sophia shook her head and gathered all her strength to look at the chat. Her vision was fuzzy and she was seeing double of all the words. She tried to open her eyes and concentrate, she forced herself to swallow down the tears that brimmed her eyes, but still, tears fell on the screen.
Nicole White: [I found this chat history on my mother-in-lawâs phone, can you see it, Mr. Harris?]
Nicole White: [I had someone investigate this person and I already met up with the person as well. He claims that you paid him to do this.]
Charles Harris: [Since that person is claiming that I am involved in Madam Whiteâs death, why are you even telling me this in the first place, Mrs.
White? Arenât you afraid that Iâll get rid of the evidence?]
Nicole White: [Mr. Harris, you didnât have any conflict of interest with my mother-in-law. I believe that you didnât do this.]
Nicole White: [However, Soph is pregnant now and itâs normal for a pregnant lady to be more suspicious. Aside from that, sheâs more prone to drastic mood swings so I think itâs better if you donât tell Soph about this right now.]
It was possible that someone was using the same profile picture and screen name as Nicole, and it just happened that this person knew about this!
No way would her sister-in-law try to drive a wedge between the two of them!
Sophiaâs hand trembled as she tapped on the profile... it was really Nicole!
How was this possible?!
Nicole... How could it be Nicole?!
âIt proves that Iâm not the one who did it, right? Why do you still look so upset?â Charles cupped her face and pulled out his handkerchief to wipe the tears away from her face. âDonât cry anymore, you know how hurt I am to see you so sad.â
Sophia shook her head and returned him his phone. She wanted to tell him everything about Nicole but the words felt trapped in her throat.
If she had not come over to confront Charles out of impulse today, would she have treated him as her motherâs killer?
Was this Nicoleâs goal?
However, she could not comprehend why Nicole did this!
âItâs alright if you donât want to talk about it.â Seeing her reaction, Charles could already guess that this was related to Nicole.
Not in a very good way too.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 369 I Guess You Could Say That He paused for a moment before enveloping her in a hug and kissed the edge of her eyes. âIf you donât want me to look into this, I wonât, and we can just pretend that this never happened if you want.â
The one thing he hated the most was people framing him, but if investigating this issue would upset Sophia, he would much rather let it slide!
â... Itâs alright.â Sophia twisted the corner of her sleeves. She would get to the bottom of Momâs death no matter what!
Charles gently patted her back and looked down at her. âJust be honest and talk to me about anything next time, alright?â
The thought of her hating him and leaving him because of a misunderstanding terrified him.
He hugged her tightly again as if he wanted to embed her into his bones.
Sophia was almost out of breath but she did not struggle, and remained quietly in his arms and nodded.
She suddenly noticed a vague scent of blood and remembered what she had done moments ago. âIs there a first aid kit here? Let me treat the wound for you.â
âItâs fine,â Charles replied before continuing in a teasing tone, âIt doesnât hurt anyway. Though, it would be great if it leaves a scar, it can be a token of love, donât you think?â
Just as he spoke, a phone began ringing.
Sophia took out her phone and her expression instantly changed when she saw the caller ID.
From afar, Charles could make out that it was Nicole, and a cold look flashed in his eyes. âYou donât have to pick up if you donât want to.â
âItâs alright.â Sophia licked her lips and picked up the phone. âHello, Nicole.â
She wanted to find out what was her sister-in-law's motive!
âWhere are you now? Are you with Mr. Harris?â Nicole asked.
