Lisa snorted. âI donât have anything to say to you. I wonât change my words even if you pay me!â
âDonât worry, paying you didnât even come to mind,â Sophia replied.
Although Sophia said it so calmly with no hints of scolding or sarcasm, Lisa felt a lump in her throat as her face reddened. However, she was unable to give a comeback.
âIâm standing right in front of a flight of steps. Itâs a bit unnerving for me and the baby, do you guys mind if we switch a spot to talk?â Before the reporters could answer, Sophia pulled Nicole away. They then made their way out of the stairwell together.
Lisa pointed at the two of them and shouted, âTheyâre trying to get away!â
The reporters immediately ran after the two of them and crowded around Sophia and Lisa.
Sophia looked at them coldly and said nothing. Then, she turned to Lisa. âDo you mind repeating to me all the crimes White family committed in the past? Thereâs too many of them, I donât think I can remember all of it.â
âIâm a relative of the White family. When Aunt Jenny and Uncle James found out that I was looking for a job, they offered me a job as a maid for the family. Thinking that they were nice people, I took up their offer.
âBut the moment I got to the White family, the couple suddenly turned into completely different people. I worked my tail off every single day, yet they still criticized every little thing that I did and even accused me of slacking! Thereâs your brother too, whoâs just an uncivilized playboy. He took notice of my looks and tried to rape me, but fortunately, I struggled hard enough to protect my innocence!â
Nicole was completely stunned by how shameless Lisa was upon hearing her words. Nicole was just about to speak when Sophia stopped her.
Thinking that Sophia was backing down, Lisa pushed on. âYou, on the other hand, were always lashing out at me whenever you were in a bad mood!
You made me kneel on the ground and forced me to eat food off the ground. You didnât even treat me like a human being!â
She turned to the reporters and heaved a heavy sigh. âLook at how these people treat a blood relative. Do you think theyâre actually capable of being nice to other people? Thatâs impossible! The White family is just a bunch of cold-blooded brutes!â
Clap, clap, clap.
Once Lisa finished talking, Sophia applauded.
Everyone around her, including Nicole, was dumbfounded.
What was she doing?
âLisa, youâre a waste of talent if you donât become a screenwriter.â Sophia sneered.
Lisa frowned and replied loudly, âI will never be as good as you when it comes to snarky responses, so I wonât fight you for that role! Everybody, I can assure you that everything Iâve said is real. If I lied about anything at all, I vow to be struck by lightning and get hit by a car on the road!â
âAlright, even if we treat your words as the truth, let me ask you something, then. If you really are a relative on my fatherâs side, how is my mother your maternal aunt? I would understand if sheâs your cousin sister-in-law or perhaps aunty-in-law, but how is she your maternal aunt?â
Lisa was silent.
Sophia gave a light laugh and continued. âI can answer this for you. Itâs because your parents are just my fatherâs neighbors from back home and they donât even speak on a usual basis. Even if we extend to three or four generations to look at it, youâre still nowhere near our family tree.â
âYouâre lying!â Flustered, Lisa defended herself strongly. âWhy would your parents hire me as a housemaid if I wasnât a relative?â
Sophia replied easily, âYour family doesnât have a good reputation and youâre always going around spreading rumors. My mother was worried that your family would hurl mud at us, so we agreed to take you in.â
Then, she turned to the reporters. âIf you donât believe me, you can visit Lisaâs hometown and ask around about her family.â
âEven... Even if weâre not blood relatives, what about your brother trying to rape me and the abuse I suffered for so many years... You still canât change the fact that your family physically and mentally abused the help!â Lisa had not expected Sophia to find a slip from her side. Due to her panicking, her words came out in stutters.
The reporters looked at Sophia intently. Even if she did not answer their other questions, this was already enough for them to write an article.
âYou said that my brother tried to rape you, but I can say as well that youâre just furious because your attempt in seducing my brother failed. Both of us can insist on our own stories, but without any proof or evidence, itâs just plain talk.
âFirst of all, letâs talk about abusing the help. I only left the house just recently, but youâve been working for us for about two years now. If we did abuse you all the time like you said, there should still be scars and bruises on your body. Do you mind showing us?â Sophia asked.
Lisaâs expression instantly changed, and just as she was about to respond that the scars were all on parts of her body that were inconvenient to show, Sophia added. âYouâre not going to say that itâs inconvenient to show the scars, are you? We have a few female reporters here and weâre just right next to the washroom. Itâs not too much to ask you to show at least one or two, right?â
The female reporters immediately went frantic.
âThatâs right, show us your scars!â
âMs. Swift, I guarantee you that we will blur out your face and body when we print the photographs. Weâll only show the bruised parts!â
One of them even came forward to pull Lisa, intending to drag her to the washroom next door.
Lisa swatted away the female reporterâs hand angrily. âDidnât you hear what I said? The injuries are all on intimate parts of my body, so what more do you want to photograph! Do you understand English?â Then, she turned around and tried to leave.
âItâs not a problem of where the bruises are, but you donât even have them, do you?â Sophia quickly grabbed Lisa who was trying to flee the scene.
Lisa tried to shrug her off, but Sophiaâs grip was too strong. Even after mustering all her strength, she was still unable to break free from Sophiaâs hold. âLet go of me!â
âWhatâs the rush?â Sophia restrained Lisa with her grasp and reached her free hand over to pluck out one of Lisaâs diamond earrings.
Lisa frowned and immediately tried to snatch it back. âThatâs mine, give it back to me!â
Sophia raised her hand up high to keep it away from Lisa and said, âLisa gave all of you an audio recording of my father kicking her out, is that right?â
Her question received nods from a few of the reporters.
âIn the last part of the recording, I called Lisa a thief. But I think she finds that being called a thief is something embarrassing, so she deleted it from the recording,â Sophia said.
Lisaâs expression darkened as she raised her voice to conceal her guilty conscience. âStop spouting such false accusations!â
âIâm not making false accusations here, just look at this earring and judge for yourself.â Sophia waved the earring in her hand that was raised up high and continued. âThese earrings come in a pair and Lisa is still wearing the other one.
âMy brother spent 200,000 bucks to order this for me. Everything from the material to the design is of top quality. Do you think a maid is able to afford such an expensive item?â
Just from a glance, it was obvious that this earring was of top-notch quality. Nobody would believe Lisa if she insisted that it was a dupe.
âI donât even know how to describe how stupid you are to actually wear out something you stole!â Sophia jeered.

Then, she leaned toward Lisa and whispered into her ear, âAfter how well my mother treated you, how dare you turn around and bite back. Lisa Swift, youâre truly pissing me off. How many years of prison do you think youâll get if I file a lawsuit against you for theft?â
âYou...â Lisa pointed her finger at Sophia and glared at her in rage.
âItâs not polite to point your fingers at people.â Sophia smacked her hand away and pulled Nicole away from the reporters. Right now, the reporters had turned their focus to Lisa.
The nurses who came by earlier finally returned with several security guards, and soon enough, the chaotic reporters were led away.
Once everyone left, Sophia only saw William who had been standing behind the group.
She did not know how long he had been there, but he looked worn out.
