Sophia threw her phone on the bed and crouched down weakly on the ground. She wrapped her hands around her head and took in a deep, pained breath as her body trembled.
Between her and Charles, she could no longer tell who made more mistakes but there was one thing she was sure of.
Leah had played her like a toy, and she was dumb enough to only find out now. What in the world actually happened back then!
Sophia did not know why Leah approached her all of a sudden in the first place, nor did she know if Leah genuinely wanted to be her friend, but the cold, harsh truth was that Leah had begun scheming against her since five years ago!
How stupid was she!
Beepââ
Beepââ
Her phone began to buzz once again.
Sophia did not move at all as she stayed put crouching on the ground, her eyes bloodshot at this point.
Her phone stopped buzzing after a while, and a few moments later, began buzzing again. It went on several times until the door clicked open and Charles walked into the room.
He looked down at Sophia on the floor while she looked up at the same time, and he was greeted by the sight of her bloodshot eyes. His heart ached as if it had been pierced by thousands of needles.
Charles suddenly regretted his decision.
When he sent the recorded video to the media, he imagined Sophia to hate him less after finding out the truth.
However, seeing her in this state right now, he regretted his actions... He should have talked to her and tell her everything from the very beginning, or at least gave her some time to process the entire incident.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â Sophiaâs voice was hoarse and every word that came out from her mouth was a struggle. âWhy didnât you tell me before you did all of these?â
Charles walked in front of her and stretched his hand out to her.
Sophia remained still as she stared at him from the floor stubbornly. âCharles Harris, you broke my leg and sent me to prison... Why didnât you tell me it was because Leah was threatening you?â
âSo what if I have told you?â Charles bent over and grabbed her right below her armpit, then forced her up.
Being pulled up suddenly after squatting down for a long time, Sophia felt her head spin. Her legs buckled and she stumbled.
That was right, so what if he had told her about it?
There was nothing she could do!
Charlesâs gaze followed her carefully, and when he saw her standing unsteadily, he reached out and pulled her into his arms.
Their skin pressed against each other as her soft curves molded into his taut muscles. What could have supposedly been romantic, however, turned out to be an aggressive confrontation.
Sophia pushed Charles away and staggered backward until her back hit the wall. She looked up at him with her bloodshot eyes and cried out, âDo you think that I should thank you for doing all these behind my back?â
âNo,â Charles replied, âI didnât lose anything when I broke your leg and sent you to prison. I was hurting you, and itâs due to my incompetence that I canât even protect the woman I like.â
Sophia stared at him with her fists tightly clenched. Her lashes trembled as tears began to roll down her face.
It hurt.
It hurt badly.
She could not deny the fact that Charles had done a lot of things for her, but it was also a fact that he had sent her to the Dream Club to be humiliated because of a misunderstanding.
She no longer knew who owed the other and most important, she was not sure if she hated him less or loved him more...
However, one thing for sure was that the past the two of them shared had left hundreds and thousands of nails in her heart. Even if the nails were pulled out, her heart would still be riddled with holes that could never recover.
She could not love him anymore... She really could not afford to love him anymore!
Whether it was Charles or Leah, she came from a different world than them. When they saw her as a lover or a friend, they would do anything to support her and applaud her to the skies, but the moment they decide to abandon her, she would become a stone in a latrine whom they treat lowly!
She did not have the power to fight back against them and she could only... bow her head in defeat.
When she saw the news today, she had first felt immensely guilty toward Charles, but it was soon replaced by the fear of being manipulated!
âDonât cry anymore.â Charles walked toward her and reached out his hand to wipe away her tears. He felt as if someone had sliced away a piece of his heart. âItâs all my fault.â
Sophia swatted his hand away and looked at him in exhaustion. âCan you leave first? I need some time for myself.â
She really did not know how to face him right now.
â... Okay.â Charles bit his lip. He took her face gently in his hands and planted a kiss on her forehead. âDonât overthink now, Iâm here by your side.â
He looked down and stared into her eyes before he turned to leave the room.
The tingling warmth remained on her forehead for a long time and Sophia reached out to rub it a few times. Feeling drained, her arm came down as she sat on the bed.
She was a mess as if all her thoughts had tangled together and rolled into a ball.
She was a human, a living person with a soul!
Yet, with Leahâs schemes and Charles possessiveness, her life felt as if it had been arranged and planned out by them, not forgetting Master Harris.
She had become a puppet, one that followed every move in the script, or at times, forced to move. She no longer had any freedom at all!
Sophia could barely hold back her emotions, and so she took out her phone to call her brother, but coincidentally, there was an incoming call so she picked up the call instead.
âDonât get annoyed at my missed calls and messages, I just wanted to tell you that Iâm sorry.â Meganâs careful voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
There was only fatigue left in Sophia. âYou never did anything to me so thereâs no need for you to apologize.â
âNo.â Megan gave a wry laugh. âI once told you that humans are complicated, and I asked you to be more open-minded, to not be so harsh with your friends, but I was wrong. I didnât know what you have been through and I shouldnât have said anything to you.â

ï¤Chapter 264 Do You Feel Sorry For Me Or Does Your Heart Ache For Me?
âTo have such a despicable friend like Ms. Jones is just...â She paused mid-sentence, unable to find the words to describe Leah.
Sophia was certainly not in the mood to talk about these things with her right now. âWeâre even now then, we donât owe each other anything anymore.
Is there anything else?â
âYouâre so realistic itâs scary sometimes.â Megan was not long-winded and all, keeping her long message short. âOne more thing. I went back to Dream Club today to pack up my things and I bumped into Mr. Jones.â
Sophia frowned immediately at the sound of his name. âHeâs none of my business, I donât want to know anything about him.â
âThe front desk told me that Mr. Jones had been kneeling at the entrance of the club for over an hour. He kept apologizing and talking about how heâs sorry toward you. I think you affected him... quite badly,â Megan continued.

At the entrance of Dream Club.
It was November, so even when the sun was out shining brightly, the temperature was still quite cold.
William merely wore a white button-up shirt and suit trousers as he kneeled in front of Dream Club, his blazer and coat tossed aside beside him.
Perhaps he had been kneeling on the ground for a long time, or perhaps it was the low temperature, his lips were pale and he did not look good.
William had found the news of his sister framing Sophia shocking enough, but he had not expected anything more, especially threatening Charles that if he did not want her to sue Sophia, he would break Sophiaâs legs and have her sent to jail for two years, and even went so far as to ask the White Family to sever all ties with her!
