Chapter 260 of 493

Chapter 263

The financial director looked at Charles with beads of sweat around her forehead and her face as pale as a sheet of white paper. She looked as if she was about to faint at any second.

“Mr. Logan, there’s no need for you to stay and help Mr. Harris,” Justin said as he smiled with his eyes narrowed in a sly manner. “The law will naturally determine whether Mr. Harris has committed a crime. I have faith in the law that it will exonerate an innocent man but not if he’s guilty.”

His tone hardened when he said the last word.

A police officer stepped forward and said, “Here’s what happened. We received a report saying that Mr. Harris is suspected of tampering with the company’s accounts for personal gain so we just came over for a routine investigation, there’s nothing to be worried about.”

“I have always done things right so I don’t have anything to hide,” Charles said, “Go ahead, be my guest.”

The head police officer nodded and called his subordinates to help move the account books to a separate office in the corner where the auditors from the police authorities went on to go through the accounts.

Mr. Logan seemed to be hesitating to speak as he saw the officers moving around the office, but there was a sneering look in his eyes at the same time.

“They probably didn’t get to have lunch earlier this afternoon. Mr. Logan, can you order some food for the police officers and our friends from the accounting department,” Charles offered.

Mr. Logan’s mouth opened several times as if he wanted to say something but in the end, he merely sighed and left to order some food.

At the same time, the financial officer wiped away the sweat all over her face and excused herself to leave as well.

“Wait a minute,” Charles called out with a faint smile on his face. “Director York, the police most probably need your cooperation. You’re excused from your work for the next two days and have someone take over your workload, your priority now is to cooperate with the police and give them whatever they need.”

Director York mumbled a vague reply. Sweat continued running down her face like raindrops, and when she spoke, her voice was trembling. “Mr.

Harris, is there anything else I can do for you?”

“I’m not the president anymore, you can ask Justin if there’s anything else that he needs,” Charles said.

A sinister look flashed across Justin’s eyes for a brief moment. “Since Mr. Harris has already arranged everything, what else can I say? Director York, do your part and cooperate with the police, don’t let one measly rotten apple spoil our entire barrel here in Harris Group.”

Charles’s facial expression remained indifferent as if he did not notice the underlying meaning in Justin’s words.

“Yes... Alright.” Director York forced a tight smile and stole a quick side glance at Charles before turning her gaze away. Then, she quickly turned around and left.

The president’s office was instantly empty.

“Ms. White, long time no see,” Justin said with a smile as he stretched his hand out to Sophia.

Sophia glanced at his hand but before she could react, Charles moved before her and grabbed Justin’s hand. “Justin, you must have been overworking yourself so much nowadays that your memory is slipping. You just met her two days ago.”

His grip was strong, strategically putting pressure between Justin’s thumb and index finger.

The smile on Justin’s face stiffened as he resisted the pain that shot up his hand. He wriggled his hand slightly before finally withdrawing his hand.

“Mr. Harris, it seems like you really like Ms. White. I just wanted to shake her hand and you can’t even handle the jealousy.”

“That’s right,” Charles replied calmly, “The next time you see my woman, you should just stay far away otherwise I wouldn’t know what I might do.”

Charles rubbed his hand that was aching in pain. “You must be joking, Mr. Harris. Ms. White is pregnant with the flesh and blood of the Harris Family, she’s bound to marry into the Harris Family one day. By then, I’ll see her everywhere I go so how can I stay away from her?”

“You know what I mean.” Charles’s eyes were as cold as ice.

One of the reasons that Sawyer, Justin’s cousin, began harassing Sophia in the past was that Justin tried to stir trouble up.

“What do you mean?” Justin replied with a look of surprise.

“It’s time to get back to work, you should return to your office.” Charles walked around him and plopped himself in the office chair.

Justin merely stared at the office desk and chair before him without moving.

“Why are you so impatient? Once the handover is complete, you’ll get your turn to take your seat here but for now, go back to your director’s office.”

Charles looked up at Justin.

Sophia sat in the corner sipping a cup of tea as she quietly watched the scene before her.

It was common for open rivalry and veiled strife to occur within big families. Since her grandparents only had her mother, she was spared from such experience as she did not grow up in a big family.

Charles’s reminder for Justin to return to his director’s office was like rubbing salt in his wound. “Mr. Harris, you don’t have any shares in the company now and you’re no longer the president in name of Harris Group. As your cousin, let me advise you not to be so defiant anymore.”

“The same goes for you,” Charles responded squarely, “Aside from Grandfather, everyone supports me to continue as the acting president. You know that, don’t you?”

“Just think about it. How long do you think you can continue as the president? Is it possible that you’ll lose your position as the president even before the handover is complete?”

Justin gripped his fists tightly before loosening them, then put his hands on the table and leaned forward. “Thank you for reminding me, Mr. Harris, but Grandfather’s neck injury hasn’t completely healed. What do you think the old man would do if he finds out about you moving around the company’s money?”

“You don’t have to worry about that.” Charles leaned back into his chair leisurely and continued, “You can stand here for the entire day today but you won’t be able to move into this office right away. Stop wasting your energy and return to your director’s office.”

Justin, “...”

He already knew that he had to stay in his director’s office for now! Could Charles stop bringing it up?!

After Justin left, Sophia got up and closed the door behind him.

“You can play some games or browse the internet if you’re bored, the WiFi password is still the same.” Charles picked up a document file laying on top of the pile on his table and began flipping through. Once he confirmed that there were no mistakes, he signed the papers.

Sophia returned to the couch as she watched him go through the document files.

The afternoon sun crept in through the window and rays of sunlight cast an indescribable sense of attractiveness as they touched every edge and corner of his handsome face. His long, slender fingers looked as if they were dipped with a layer of gold, and he looked just like an exquisite statue of art.

Charles who was focused on work was certainly more attractive than usual.

Sophia shifted herself on the couch. She wanted to say something but when she saw how immersed he was in his work, she swallowed back the words.

She raised her cup of tea to take a sip only to find out that the tea had gone cold. It tasted bitter in her mouth but after a while, it had a slightly vague sweetness.

Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!

Chapter 262 Where Are You Now?

“What did you want to say?” Charles signed his name on one of the documents before closing it and putting it aside, then looked up at her.

He had always given off a gentleman-like aura that was though charming, quite unapproachable, but ever since he confessed his feelings to her, he looked at her as if she was his entire world.

Once again, Sophia felt uncomfortable under his gaze and avoided his eyes. “You shouldn’t displease your grandfather for my sake.”

Master Harris was the head of the Harris Family as well as Harris Group. It would be extremely idiotic to provoke him, especially when he did not have much time left.
