Charles' entire body was taut. He lowered his head to stare at her hair whorl. His handsome face looked the same as before, but he alone knew how fast his heart was beating at this moment.
Love could be strange sometimes. Before he realized that he was in love with her, the occasional physical contact he had with her delighted him for some inexplicable reason.
After realizing that he had fallen in love with her, even the tiniest response from her could send his heart racing... even if he knew she was just using him this time.
"We just resolved the misunderstandings between us today." Sophia looked at Leah, saying pointedly, "Iâm sure I donât need to tell you what sort of misunderstanding that is, right? You should know better than me.â
Leah was grasping onto the armrest of the wheelchair so hard that her hands had turned white. Even the smile on her face did not look as natural as before. "What misunderstanding? I donât have a clue about a word youâre saying."
"Itâs alright if you donât understand." Sophia was grossed out by Leah so much that her stomach could not stop churning. "All you need to know is that Charles has confessed his love to me today and promised to make up to me. He wants me to stay with him for the rest of my life. That's all you need to know."
âCharles?â Charles looked down at her, a touch of tenderness concealed in his dark and serene eyes. It had been so long since she last called him that.
"!" Leah's pupils contracted slightly. She could no longer keep the smile on her face. She turned to Charles subconsciously, her eyes filled with disbelief.
Charles did not say a word as he allowed her to study his face as she liked. His silence was acquiescence.
"He confessed to you and you got back together with him just like that?!" William erupted before Leah could say anything.
He listed out all the vile acts that Charles had done, gnawing his teeth as he did so. "Why do you still want to be with him after what he has done to humiliate and torture you? Why are you so shameless, Sophia?"
"Why are you so agitated whether Sophia has gotten back together with me or not?" Charles tugged at his lips and took one step forward, standing in front of Sophia to block off William's line of vision that was fixed on Sophia. "Or should I say, you still canât forget Sophia?â
Having said that, he darted an almost imperceptible glance at Leah who was behind William.
William's face turned from an infuriated red to a guilty pale immediately. He subconsciously glanced at Leah and denied in a stiff tone. "No..."
"If thatâs the case, Iâd like to ask Mr. Jones to please stay away from my woman in the future. I don't like seeing other men pestering her." Charles held Williamâs gaze, his dark eyes intermingled with signs of warning.
The words âmy womanâ made Sophia extremely uncomfortable, but apart from frowning, she did not say a word about it.
William already had a fiancée. Audrey was a difficult and unreasonable woman, and so was Leah and Madam Jones. Sophia had never liked him in the first place but was now even more irritated by his pestering. She found it sickening and annoying.
If she could borrow Charles to get rid of William, then she would be more than happy to do so.
Leah was surprised to find out that they had gotten back together. The words âmy womanâ that came out of Charlesâ mouth at this moment sounded particularly piercing to her ears.
She forced out a smile, bit her lip, and said, "Charles, did... Did you forget about our marriage contract?"
Before Charles could say anything, Sophia sneered. "Having a marriage contract doesnât mean anything. Only mutual love prevails. I used to have a marriage contract with Charles back then too, but didn't you force your way in, Leah? Iâm just taking back what belongs to me."
Leah enjoyed grossing her out like that, right? She would gross her out the same way then!
The smile froze on Leahâs face. She was momentarily stumped for words.
"Sophia White!" Never in a million years would William have thought that the woman he liked would be so sickening. "You tried to murder Leah, but she chose not to press charges against you because you were her friend. Now, youâre trying to snatch her fiancé away? Are you still human?"
He pounced toward Sophia as he spoke.
Charles stretched out his hand and grabbed William's wrist with a forbidding look on his face. Then, he flung him away hard.
William staggered before regaining his footing after holding the wall for support.
"I'll say this again, stay away from her in the future." The front part of Charlesâ patient attire was already stained with blood, whereas his good-looking face was stained with a vicious aura. He was clearly standing in the sun yet was looking like a demon bred in the dark.
William was intimidated by his aura. After a while, he said with a sullen look on his face, "You said that Sophia is your woman, but what about Leah?
Where do you put her?"
"Nowhere." Charles spared no room for Leah. "I can only hold one person in my heart."
Leah knew a long time ago that Charles had no feelings for her at all, but she still felt disappointed after hearing him saying it out loud at this moment.
Apart from feeling disappointed, her jealousy and hatred toward Sophia intensified further.
If Sophia did not exist in this world, then a wise and sensible person like Charles would marry her for sure!
William could not tell whether he was furious for his sister or was jealous that Charles could still win Sophiaâs heart after all the vile things he had done.
He clenched his fist, the veins on his forehead throbbing. "A person like you isnât worthy of getting engaged to Leah!"
"Then please persuade your sister to stop trying to get engaged with me, Mr. Jones." Charles' face was much paler than before now.
Having said that, he put his arms around Sophia's waist and entered the ward. With a slam, the door was shut.
William looked at the tightly-closed door, his eyes stained with pain, struggle, anger, as well as several other inexplicable emotions.
"Is it really like what Charles said, William? You still can't let Sophia go?" Leah lowered her eyes, looking slightly forlorn.
As soon as her voice sounded, Williamâs heart fell with a thump as he said almost immediately, "No!"
"Actually, it doesnât really matter if you still canât let Sophia go." Leah forced out a smile. "You don't need to suppress your feelings for my sake.
"If you still like Sophia, then you can go ahead and pursue her, but before you do that, you must make it very clear to Audrey because sheâs the biggest victim in this relationship."
William glanced at the closed door again. After struggling for quite some time, he said, "No, I don't like Sophia anymore. Donât think too much."
How could he still like Sophia when she had done something like that to Leah?
Besides, many people had learned about Grandpa and Tiffanyâs affair now. If he canceled his marriage contract with Audrey and chased after a woman who tried to murder her sister two years ago, the Jones family would be drowned out by spit and sputter!
"Iâm not thinking too much." Leah smiled bitterly. "But really, William... If you canât let her go, then go ahead and pursue her. I don't want you to have any regrets because of me."

ï¤Chapter 175 When Did You Get So Close To Sophia, Charles The more empathetic she behaved, the more guilty and ashamed William was. "Letâs not talk about her anymore, Leah. She and I will never be together."
Leah sighed gently at his words, a light flashing across her downcast eyes.
