Sophia rubbed her slightly aching head, then got out of bed. She shuffled her slippers on and covered her upper body as she walked over to open the door.
Nicole stood at the door with a pale look on her face. After looking at her up and down several times and was sure that she was okay, Nicole finally breathed a sigh of relief. She said, "You scared me to death. What took you so long to open the door?"
"I was too tired and slept a bit more. Sorry for making you worried, Nicole," Sophia said, tugging at her lips.
Nicole glanced at her bare upper body and frowned. She handed her a new patient blouse, then pushed her into the ward. "Go in and change your clothes."
Sophia hummed a response and was about to turn around and walk in when the door of the ward across their room clicked open. Charles appeared at the door clad in a patientâs attire.
Maybe it was because of his tall figure, or maybe it was because of his ridiculously handsome face, but he still managed to carry a sense of nobility with him even while wearing the white and blue striped patient's attire.
Their eyes met. One of them looked enigmatic with eyes that seemed like an endless abyss; another was frowning with eyes overflowing with hatred and disgust.
"Whatâs..." Seeing that she had been looking outside for a long time, Nicole followed her line of sight and turned her head to look in the opposite direction as well. When she saw who the person standing on the opposite side was, her voice was cut off abruptly as she swallowed the word 'wrong'
back in.
"Come in, Nicole." Sophia pulled Nicole in, then walked to the door, and slammed the door shut.
Nicole stood behind her, opening and closing her mouth several times. She said, "Mr. Harris is hospitalized because..."
"I'm not interested to know why heâs hospitalized." Sophia cut her off straight away and put on her patient blouse.
Nicole breathed a sigh of relief after hearing what she said. She thought Soph was angry because she knew that Sterling had stabbed Charles.
"By the way, Soph, what kind of misunderstanding were you talking to Mr. Harris about yesterday if not the car incident?â Nicole asked.
Sophia paused and replied succinctly: "... He misunderstood me for having an affair with William, thinking that I had cheated on him. That's why he has been treating me this way for the last two years."
âA misunderstanding?" Nicole asked.
Sophia's voice was faint, "Yeah."
"Whatâs next?" Nicole looked at her and weighed her words carefully. "The two of you are... considered to have cleared the air?"
Crash!
Sophia accidentally hit the teacup on the table and it fell to the ground, shattering into several pieces.
"Cleared the air?!" Sophia snickered, the scar at the end of her brows stained with a tinge of ruthlessness. "You must be joking, right, Nicole?
"I have lived a life of pure misery for the past two years and almost spent the rest of my life in Dream Club. How can I possibly bury the hatchet?!"
After all the suffering and torture she went through in the last two years, she would never forgive him even if he knelt on the ground and apologized to her, let alone after hearing the two breezy words âIâm sorryâ that came out of his mouth!
She would hate him!
She would keep hating him for the rest of her life!
If it was not for him, her life would not have turned out this way!
"Soph, you..." Nicole had never seen Sophia behaving like this and was momentarily stumped.
Sophia took a deep breath and tried her best to suppress the surging emotions in her heart. She said flatly, "Iâm sorry, I must have frightened you, Nicole."
"It's okay." Nicole hesitated before asking, "What are you planning to do now that the two of you know that this is just a misunderstanding? Are you going to take your revenge? Or what?"
"I do want to take my revenge, but... I can only think about it." Sophia let out a self-deprecating laugh. "Iâll leave. I want to move somewhere else when my leg is healed."
She was unable to take her revenge even with the White familyâs help, let alone doing it all by herself.
Besides, she had wasted nearly 20 years on Charles. She did not want to waste her remaining time on him.
Nicole looked at her and wanted to say something but decided not to do so on second thought.
"If you have something to say, Nicole, just say it," Sophia said.
After hesitating over and over again, Nicole finally said, "You need to be mentally prepared first. This isnât going to be pleasant."
"Just say it, Nicole." She had experienced death several times now, so what else was there to be afraid of?
Nicole did not say it straight away but asked a question instead, "You and Mr. Harris cleared up the misunderstanding before you were pushed into the emergency room, right?"
Sophia nodded.
"But..." Nicole paused, lowering her voice. "Your brother knelt down and begged Mr. Harris, even threatening Mr. Harris with a knife, begging him to let you go, but... he disagreed."
"!" Sophia clenched her hands gradually. In just a split second, blood had completely drained from her face.
That incident had already been proven to be a misunderstanding two years ago, but he still refused to let her go? Why did he say that she did not need to work in Dream Club anymore, then? Was he pulling her leg?
What exactly was he trying to do?!
"Soph, don't get too agitated yet. Since that matter has proved to be a misunderstanding, if you can also prove that the car accident is just a misunderstanding, Iâm sure he... wonât make things difficult for you anymore." Nicole stroked her back in a hurry, looking extremely worried.
Sophia licked her dry lips. "He already knows that I wasnât the one who caused the car accident."
He knew that she was not to be blamed for the car accident. The reason why he had been treating her like this in the last two years was purely because he thought that she cheated on him!
Nevertheless, she had told him that she did not share any ambiguous relationship with William. He also said that he believed her, so why did he still refuse to let her go?
Her words left Nicole speechless. "Mr. Harris knows? Why wonât he let you go then?"
Sophia did not answer her question. She stared at the ground with vacant eyes for a while. Then, she walked past Nicole, pulled the door open, and walked outside.
"What are you doing, Soph?" Nicole followed her in a hurry, fearing that something might happen to her.
Sophia walked to the ward and started banging on the door. Next to the ward, three other wards opened their doors as the patientsâ family members poked their heads out to see what was going on.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 170 He Could Not Help But Sneak A Look At Her One of them, an old lady with gray hair and good temperament, said gently, "Girls, can you please keep it down? My old man has lung cancer and has been in so much pain that he can hardly sleep. He finally fell asleep just moments ago.â
Sophia did not talk to the old lady nor look at her, though she did stop banging on the door.
"Iâm sorry, Granny. My sister is acting like that because this is urgent. I apologize on her behalf." Nicole smiled apologetically.
"I understand that this is something urgent." The old lady did not argue with them either. She simply said, "Let us all be understanding toward each other. There are a lot of patients here, so try and keep it down."
Sophia turned around and bowed to the old lady. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine, itâs fine." The old lady waved her hand, her eyes slightly red. "I just want my old man to get more rest seeing how much of pain heâs in. Oh dear, my old man is calling me. Iâm going back in now!"
She waved at Sophia and Nicole, then pushed the door and walked in.
At almost the same time the old lady closed the door, Charles opened his. He looked the same, except that his handsome face was now as white as paper, and his patientâs attire was stained with a few drops of blood.
