Chapter 150

William was struck speechless. Her words infuriated him, but he could not deny them.

She turned away, her expression cold, and he instinctively moved to stop her... Starting from two years ago, he had felt as though she just kept growing further away from him. It left him feeling extremely uneasy.

"Do you still have business with me, Mr. Jones?" Sophia looked up at him. Under the bright white light, the impatience and hatred in her eyes were perfectly clear for him to see.

He felt a stab of pain in his chest. He paused blankly, opening and closing his mouth several times before saying very quietly, "If you're in the right, I'll take your side."

"Hah!" Sophia laughed coldly and said with a sneer, "In that case, answer me this, Mr. Jones. Have you ever thought your sister was in the wrong?"

William frowned, a gleam in his eyes. "Leah has always been a bright and considerate girl. She always puts other people first. Even though you tried to run her over two years ago, she never charged you for it. It's because she didn't want you to end up in jail for life as a result..."

Sophia looked directly at him, the irony in her eyes thickening. However, she did not want to say a single word.

There was no getting through to someone like William Jones. Every word she said would just be a waste of breath.

Just then, footsteps approached them, and a gentle warm male voice spoke from behind Sophia. "What you're trying to say, Mr. Jones, is you don't think your little sister will ever do anything wrong, yes?"

Sophia frowned slightly and turned to look at the newcomer.

He was dressed in a smart suit under a doctor's whites. His features were handsome and bright, and he even had a pair of deep dimples in his cheeks.

The night was dark and the light from the lamps was not particularly stark. Even so, when he stood in front of her, she felt like she was standing directly under the sun.

"Victor Hemingway?" William frowned deeply and gave the man before him a good look before he ventured his name.

Victor smiled, his brows arching. "It's been seven years since we last met. I'm surprised you recognized me at a glance, Mr. Jones."

The two of them were classmates from preschool to junior high, but Victor transferred to the States in his first year of high school and only just returned.

"A reunion under such circumstances really isn't ideal." William tugged at the corners of his lips, but his smile did not reach his eyes at all. "My girlfriend and I have something to discuss, so if you'll so kindly give us some privacy..."

Sophia's eyes darkened at that, and she was about to say something when Victor beat her to the punch. "Girlfriend, you say?"

Before William could reply, Victor chuckled to himself. "Is that a joke, Mr. Jones? My aunt is constantly telling me about how you used to stick to Soph like glue but became enemies with her after what happened to your sister two years ago."

William's expression changed, and he clenched his fists slightly.

Victor paused, raising a brow. "When did Soph become your girlfriend? Why didn't I hear about it?"

Sophia frowned at the way this stranger kept calling her "Soph", but she did not say anything.

"My relationship with Sophia is none of your concern." William's fists were tightly clenched now, and his expression was turning ugly.

"Now, now, that's not nice." Victor reached out an arm and pulled Sophia into his embrace. With a laugh, he continued, "My aunt... Oh, you might know her better as Aunt Lucy. She said that she was going to introduce me to Soph as her boyfriend once I come back here. So, as Soph's future boyfriend, your relationship with her is plenty of my concern."

Sophia initially wanted to push away this man who was randomly hugging her, but when she heard him say that he was Aunt Lucy's nephew, her hand paused in midair before going back to her side.

"Come on, just ignore him." She picked up Victor's arm and walked toward the hospital.

William still wanted to give chase, but Sophia's patience had completely run out now. She held her phone in front of his face, waving it as she said icily, "Mr. Jones, do you want me to call Madam Jones, Ms. Jones or Ms. Sommer and tell them that you're hounding me here at the hospital?"

Her threat made William pause in his footsteps. He saw the disgust and hatred in Sophia's eyes, and his heart ached again. He was a little upset, a little angry, a little guilty, but also a little frustrated himself. He could not bring himself to let go.

The pain and struggle flashed through his eyes. After much hesitation, he ended up watching Soph leave with Victor after all, arm in arm.

The second they walked through the hospital doors, Victor took the initiative to let go of Sophia. He even took a step to the side, opening up a suitable distance between him and Sophia. Sounding apologetic, he said, "My aunt keeps calling you Soph, and I don't know what your last name is, so I just went with Soph as well just now. I hope you'll pardon my rudeness."

"My last name is White. I'm Sophia White." Sophia glanced at the name tag on his chest and asked, "So you're Aunt Lucy's nephew? The one who was studying in America?"

Victor smiled, and it was as though stars twinkled in his eyes. "Yeah. I just returned from the States yesterday. Let me formally introduce myself. My name is Victor Hemingway, that's Victor as in the guy from Mr. Love and Hemingway as in Ernest Hemingway."

Mr. Love was a dating simulation game, where Victor was one of the main love interests, and Hemingway was one of the most prolific writers of his time.

"Are you saying you're as handsome as the game character and as talented as the writer, Mr. Hemingway?" Sophia gave him a small smile.

Victor's dimples deepened. His smile was mesmerizing. "Oops, you caught me."

“Thank you for earlier,” Sophia said softly, her smile fading.

Victor took off his white coat and draped it over an arm. “I didn’t do much. You don’t have to be so polite about it.”

He paused before saying in a lower voice, “Pardon my intrusion, but I hope you don’t mind me asking... My aunt mentioned that there’s something not quite right with your right leg. Is that true?”

“Somewhat.” Sophia moved her right leg away inconspicuously, saying mildly, “If you don’t look too closely, you won’t notice that I’m crippled. If you do try and look closely... it’s quite obvious, actually.”

Victor gave her leg a subtle glance and said with feeling, “You must have gone through a lot to make it so that you can pass as a normal person, huh, Ms. White?”

“I guess, not really?” Sophia moved her right leg back again, giving him an ambiguous answer and a frown.

“I know, I’m prodding too much for someone you just met.” Victor curved his lips and said sincerely, “But I’m an expert in this field, and my aunt said that you used to be a dancer, so she has always wanted me to help you heal.”

Sophia took out her phone and looked at the time. She then turned up to him and said, “Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Hemingway, but it’s okay. I have someone waiting for me, so I guess I’ll see you around.”

As soon as she said that, Nicole ran toward her anxiously. “Soph, why are you...”

It was only when she came closer that she saw an unfamiliar man standing next to Sophia. Nicole swallowed the words she was about to say and asked instead, “And this is...?”

Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!

Chapter 149 Why Would I Marry You? I'm Not Stupid “Hello. I’m Aunt Lucy’s nephew, Victor Hemingway. I’m a doctor who specializes in podiatry.” Victor introduced himself without waiting for Sophia to respond to Nicole.

As soon as Nicole heard the word “podiatry’, her eyes lit up, her voice becoming slightly more excited than usual. “You’re a podiatrist? In that case, can you take a look at Soph? Someone broke her leg two years ago, but earlier a doctor said that she could still be cured!”
