As soon as his voice fell, two nurses held the ground for support and stood up. They then pushed Sophia out.
Charles fixed his eyes on Sophia and followed her subconsciously.
âIâm warning you, Charles, don't follow us!" Sterling barred his way, seized his collar with both hands, and said in a suppressed voice as he gnawed his teeth.
After saying those words, he trotted away to catch up with Sophia.
"Charles." Yvette walked up to him, sighed, and said, "I donât care what sort of grudges you hold against Sophia, but she canât be agitated right now.
Iâm begging you as a mother, please donât show up in front of her during this period of time."
Charles stared straight at her and clenched his fists slightly without a word.
"Charlesâ" Yvette called him again. There was a pleading look in the depth of her eyes.
Charles unclenched his fist, clenched it, then unclenched it again before saying coolly, "Okay."
Yvette breathed a sigh of relief after getting his affirmation and went to see Sophia anxiously with Megan, Nicole, and her servant following behind her.
Suddenly, Charles, Marie, and Doctor Lance, who was sitting on the ground, were the only ones left in the corridor that had been overcrowded just moments earlier.
Charles glanced at the two words that wrote âemergency roomâ, pursed his lips, and walked toward the elevator. His tall figure looked battered and forlorn.
Marie stood on the same spot for half a minute, thanked the doctor, then followed him into the elevator.
The two of them were the only ones in the elevator.
Marie leaned on the elevator and looked at him with the corners of her lips curled up. "Are you going to continue to deny that you have feelings for Sophia, Mr. Harris? Youâre 24 years old now. Itâs boring to play the double game you know."
This time, Charles did not deny it immediately like he used to but changed the subject instead. "Report to me once youâve investigated the rooftop incident."
Ding!
The elevator had arrived on the first floor.
Charles strode out of the elevator. Under the surprised and curious eyes of the crowd, he walked out of the hospital clad in his damp pajamas and slippers before driving off.
The rain had stopped. The sky was blue, and the air was fresh.
Marie took a deep breath and gave herself a good stretch as she stared at the sky while wearing a languid and fascinated look on her face.
Judging from Mr. Harris' personality, he was supposed to invite her into his car like the gentleman that he was. However, he drove away without saying anything this time... Tsk, someone was disconcerted.
Sophia was lying on the hospital bed in the ward. Her face was as pale as a thin paper, and the loose hospital gown had set off her scrawny figure, making her appear much scrawnier now.
Sterling did not ask her what happened. He was simply staring at her with scarlet eyes, weeping in silence. His behavior paired with his nondescript attire made him look especially hilarious, yet no one was in the mood to laugh.
"Shouldn't you be happy that Iâm alive, Sterling?" Sophia tugged at her lips, yet the smile did not reach her eyes. There was only disappointment that she could not conceal.
She thought that she would be dead for sure this time. She did not expect to get pulled back from the gates of hell again... After she was discharged from the hospital, she would most probably return to her dull and undignified life again. It seemed like the heavens were not going to let her take the easy way out after all.
Nicole handed a paper towel to Sterling and said with a frown, "Soph just came back from the jaws of death. This should be a good thing. Why are you crying instead? Go out if youâre going to keep crying. You are not allowed to cry here!"
Sterling did not take the paper towel. He gave his face a quick wipe with his sleeves and sniffed his nose hard, questioning Sophia, "When you begged to die, did you not think about Nicole and me?"
He paused for a moment and raised his voice considerably. "Iâm working so d*mn hard right now! Who do you think Iâm doing it for?!"
He went to the company to learn how to manage a business but was turned into a laughing stock. Even so, he had never thought of giving up. Was he not doing it so that he could become stronger and take her away from that b*stard Charles?!
"Sterling, the doctor said that Soph must remain calm. You can tell her these things next time." Yvette pulled Sterling and coaxed him in a soft voice.
Sterling did not utter a word. He was simply staring fixedly at Sophia.
"Who said that I was asking for death?" Sophia said, "I was locked on the rooftop and got caught in the rain. I suffered a relapse from my pulmonary edema and leg problems, thatâs why I was sent here to receive emergency treatment. I wasnât asking for death."
Sterling did not believe her at all, yelling, "You liar! Megan told me that she called you an ambulance but you begged to die, so she could only call 120 and ask them not to come over anymore!"
Yvette was sitting on a chair next to her. Her eyes flashed after hearing what he said.
Megan, on the other hand, twisted her hands together. Her face alternated between red and white. There were struggles in her eyes as she stared at Sterling and Sophia. She wanted to say something.
Sophia darted her a lukewarm glance. She did not mean to blame her either. "I couldnât really speak at that time. There was also ferocious wind, heavy rain, and loud thunder. Maybe Megan heard wrongly."
After hearing what she said, Sterling still looked rather doubtful, though he did not look so grim anymore.
"Soph, I donât care what others think, your brother and I will stand by you forever. You mustnât commit suicide," Nicole said, sitting on the edge of the bed and taking Sophiaâs hand.
Sophia nodded with a smile. "I know."
"Youâve been a huge help to Soph this time. I have nothing to give you. Send your bank account number to my mobile phone. I will make sure that your efforts will not be for nothing!" Sterling turned to Megan and said.
Meganâs face was flushed. After hesitating over and over again, she said, "You donât have to. Weâre staying in the same dormitory, so itâs not too much effort, really. Thereâs no need..."
"Just send your bank account number to my brother." Sophia interrupted her with a smile. "My brother will not be at ease until he sends you some money."
Sophia was smiling abnormally often today. Nicole did not think that she was happy at all, though. She was just putting on a show for her and Sterling for fear that they would worry.
Megan looked at Sophia, then turned to Sterling and said cautiously with a smidge of delight, "Thank you, Mr. White."
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 132 Iâm Her... Boss Sterling did not mind about trivial things like that. He was more concerned about something else. "I remember you said that someone had locked Soph on the rooftop?"
He clenched his fists, his eyes dark and malicious.
Megan gulped before answering, "Tiffany might be the culprit who locked Sophia on the rooftop, but I canât be completely sure whether she was actually the one."
Sterling let out a sullen hum and told Sophia to take a good rest without thinking about anything else before turning around and walking out.
"Where are you going, Sterling?" Nicole stood up and called out to him for fear that he would cause trouble again.
Sterling did not stop walking. His slightly vicious voice came from the door, "Iâll kill anyone who tries to kill Soph!"
"Soph, I'll go and watch your brother. Iâll come and see you later!" Nicole was worried that Sterling would cause trouble, but she was also worried about Sophia at the same time.
"I wonât die, Nicole. Don't worry about me." Sophia chuckled lightly and said mildly, "Nicole, after you find Sterling, please convey a message to him for me. Sometimes itâs harder to live than to die. Thereâs no need to kill the person who shut me out on the rooftop."
To live was no better than to die. She knew this better than anyone else.
Megan found this version of her strange yet familiar. It chilled her blood.
