"Huh? You said that youâre applying for a leave of absence for Megan, right? I got it." Manager Jim said, "Since youâre the one whoâs making the leave application for Megan, I will come to you if something happens to her."
The supervisor was overly cautious. Sophia looked at him. "Sure."
She turned and left the office. After closing the door, she could vaguely hear Tiffany's voice coming from inside the office. She stared at the door that was now tightly shut and stood there for a good five seconds before walking toward the dormitory.
It was exceedingly common to hear female employees in the club couch casting with the manager.
Sophia did not think much about it. After she returned to the dormitory, she washed up and prepared to apply a facial mask when Megan gave her a call. She informed her that she would not be coming back tonight and asked her not to leave the door unlocked for her.
Tiffany did not come back either.
Sophia was working night shift the next day, so she slept in until late in the morning before bolting awake from her nightmare. She charged her mobile phone and switched it on to look at the time only to find that it was already half-past ten in the morning. Nicole had left seven to eight missed calls.
"What's the matter, Nicole?" Sophia called Nicole back.
Nicole still had a lingering fear. "I called you seven to eight times and the intercept operator kept saying that your phone is switched off. I thought something had happened to you. I nearly rushed to Dream Club to look for you!"
"No, my phone is dead." Sophia rubbed her slightly aching head.
"Iâm glad to hear that youâre fine." Nicole sounded extremely worried. "Thereâs nothing much, really. Iâm just calling to see how youâre doing. Your brother and I are worried... about the incident that happened two days ago. Weâre worried that Charles will take revenge against you."
Two days ago was the day Sophia seduced Charles and got thrown out after that.
Sophia gripped the phone tightly. After a long silence, she said, "Iâm fine. You guys donât have to worry about me."
She mocked herself. "I was in prison for two years and came out just fine. Dream Club is definitely better than prison.
After hearing what she said, Nicole sounded even more worried now. "Soph..."
"Iâll give you a call if Charles gives me any trouble at all. You and Sterling will come and back me up after that, sounds good to you?" Sophia smiled and said.
Nicole was only slightly relieved after that. She then told her a few more things before hanging up in a haste.
Work was as usual, though when it was nearly eleven o'clock at night, Manager Jim asked Sophia to make a trip to his office just as she was about to end her shift.
Sophia knocked on the door and went in. "You called me, Manager Jim?"
"Ah." Manager Jim said, "Megan didn't come in today as well. You know that, right?"
Sophia nodded. "She said that she didn't have your number, so she went to Marie and made the application."
"Marie told me about Megan's leave. Don't worry, I'm just asking." Manager Jim pushed his glasses and was about to speak when he hesitated again.
Sophia placed both hands in front of her lower abdomen habitually and said in a lukewarm tone, "You can be straightforward with me if you have anything to say."
"If thatâs the case... I'll be frank with you, then." Manager Jim sighed. "Do you still remember the incident when you went to Mr. Harris two days ago and got thrown out by him?"
Sophia's pupils contracted slightly. A layer of sweat soon formed on the wings of her nose. "Yeah."
What did Manager Jim mean by that?
"Mr. Long is holding a party on the rooftop today. Mr. Harris wants you to clean up the rooftop after the party." Manager Jim gave her a pitiful look and stressed with an unbearable look on his face, "Alone."
The rooftop was huge. Usually, three to four cleaners would be assigned to clean up the place and they would usually take about two hours.
It was now an hour away from the end of her shift. It was clearly a punishment for Sophia to clean up the rooftop all by herself.
Seeing that Sophia did not say a word, Manager Jim sighed again and said regretfully, "I think that itâs too much to have a girl like you cleaning up such a large place all by yourself as well, but... But this is the order given by the higher-ups. I have no say in this. Please forgive me and understand that itâs not easy for me either.â
Sophia pursed her lips and hummed softly. Her hands that were placed in front of her lower abdomen at first were now hanging on her sides. Her eyebrows were slightly furrowed.
"Thank you for being considerate." Manager Jim raised his wrist to look at the time and let out a cough. "Mr. Longâs party is already over. You can go and clean it up now."
Sophia did not move.
Manager Jim asked rather impatiently after seeing this. "Anything else?"
"Iâd like to ask if Mr. Harris has personally given the order to have me clean the roof or what?" Sophia stressed the word âpersonallyâ and stared fixedly at him.
When folks like Charles exhibited the tiniest hint of dissatisfaction toward her, his subordinates would fall over each other in their eagerness to confront her without ever needing him to personally give them orders to do such a âtrivial matterâ.
This was the case with the last manager. He had been targeting her because of Charles. Charles did not even need to tell him what to do.
If Manager Jim said that Charles had ordered him personally, then that would basically mean that the manager was lying.
"Huh?" The smile on Manager Jim's face froze. He then said with a wry smile. "Let me be honest with you, Mr. Harris did not personally order you to clean the roof.
"Marie said a few things to me through WeChat this morning. Basically, what she meant was that Mr. Harris is not very happy with you, so she asked me to..." Manager Jim kept the details vague. He looked at Sophia. "Do you understand what I mean now?"
Sophia hummed a soft reply. Her hands that were hanging on both sides of her body grasped at her clothes. She pursed her lips and walked out of the office.
She bumped into Tiffany at the door.
"Humph!" Tiffany harrumphed heavily at her, tugged at her hard with her shoulder, and was about to sashay into the managerâs office.
Sophia snorted and stretched out her leg swiftly.
Bang!
Tiffanyâs head was slightly raised, so she was not watching her steps. She tripped on Sophiaâs leg and fell facedown to the ground.
"Did you get a nose job?" Sophia looked at her from a condescending height and tugged at her lips. "It would be a shame if you did."
Having said that, she ignored Tiffany whose eyes were red with fury, and walked straight into the staff room at the end of the corridor to grab the cleaning tools.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 126 How Could She Possibly Betray You?
Tiffany was so angry that she hammered the ground several times and ended up hurting her hand instead. She blew at her injured hand as tears flowed out of the corners of her eyes. She glared fiercely at Sophia's back and flashed a cunning smile.
She would love to see how arrogant Sophia could get in a while!
Sophia carried the cleaning tools onto the roof and cast a cursory glance around her. Her expression fell.
All the unfinished meals on the table had fallen to the ground. Wine bottles were smashed and scattered all over the table and the floor. Cream was smudged all over the place.
The pool that was supposed to be so clear that one could see the bottom was now full of trash. It was a ghastly sight. She might even need to drain the water later and give it a thorough scrubbing.
Sophia looked up at the black clouds layered upon each other in the sky, let out a deep, long breath, and started cleaning with the cleaning tools.
There were broken wine bottles everywhere on the ground. She was forced to pay full attention and watch her steps. Even so, when she put the garbage into the garbage bag, some of the tiny glass fragments still ended up cutting her hand.
Fortunately, it was just several tiny wounds. She did not shed too much blood.
Nearly two hours had passed when she had finally cleaned up the garbage on the ground and mopped it with a mop. Sophia was so tired that her neck, back, and limbs were sore. Her legs were like lead, so heavy that she could hardly walk.
