Clara stopped in her tracks after hearing what he said and trotted over to the two of them, stretching out her neck to look at Charles' trouser leg. If she was not so apprehensive of him, then she would have opened up his trouser leg to take a closer look.
Sophia, however, did not even stop walking. She minded her own business and walked toward the direction where the car was parked, totally unconcerned to the things happening behind her.
Charles looked at Sophia's back, frowning in an almost imperceptible manner. He said, "Iâm okay."
Zachary followed his gaze and raised his eyebrows. He dashed toward Sophia and stopped her in her tracks. "Ms. White, I need to send Clara home and then head to the office to handle something after that. I really donât have the time to send Charles to the hospital. Why don't you go to the hospital with him and check it out?"
"I think I heard Mr. Harris saying that heâs okay," Sophia said mildly.
Zachary went around her and looked at Charles, coughing slightly. "Charles, your wound is bleeding again. I think itâs best that you go to the hospital to get it checked in case of any sequela. What do you think?"
Charles paused for a moment and pretended to look natural as he swept his gaze over Sophia who was standing not far away. "That sounds like a good idea."
"Iâm sorry, I have to get up for work tomorrow morning. I don't have time either. Goodbye." Sophia finished her sentence, giving Zachary no chance to persuade her to stay as she hailed a cab straight away and got in.
After she closed the door, Clara quickly walked around to the other side and got in the car. She then rolled down the window and said to Zachary in a delightful tone, "You donât have to send me home since youâre so busy, Zachary. Itâs the same if I take the cab home with Sophia!"
Then, she said to Charles in an overcautious and low voice, "Goodbye, Mr. Harris."
Charles did not utter a word. He stared at Sophia's side profile as she sat in the car, his thin lips in a tight purse. Something was seemingly tossing and turning in the depth of his eyes.
Sophia sat in the car but did not turn her head to look at him nor speak to him even though she could feel his gaze on her.
"Where are you getting down, Ms. Robertson?" She turned to look at Clara sitting next to her and asked.
Clara answered hurriedly, "City hall. I'll go to the city hall... and get off at the bus stop there!"
"Mister, weâll go to the city hall bus stop, then to Dream Club, thank you." Sophia turned to her side, crossed over Clara, and rolled up the window on her side.
The driver replied, put the car into gear, and disappeared at the first intersection.
It was not until the cab had vanished from his sight that Charles finally drew back his gaze.
Zachary stretched his body and pushed his glasses, asking, "Are we still going to the hospital?"
Charles walked toward the spot where the car was parked, leaving him with a view of his back. "A little bleeding wonât kill me."
"You said it yourself. Donât say that Iâm heartless." Zachary caught up with him in just a few steps and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Charles, letâs pick up where we left off earlier. As a gold medal lawyer, Iâm all about seeking the truth."
The two were talking about the cause of Charles and Sophia's conflict earlier when Clara, that brat, came rushing in before he could hear his answer.
Charles had walked to the side of the Mercedes. He frowned and said to him, "Open the door."
Zachary opened the door with his car key and climbed into the driver's seat, whereas Charles walked around to the other side and sat in the passenger seat.
"Charles, what did Sophia do to you two years ago? If you don't tell me, then Iâll keep making wild guesses and worry about it all day long." Zachary was in no rush to drive but turned his head and asked the question.
Charles' expression sank slightly. The lights in the car were switched off. There were only colorful lights streaming in. It was hard to see his expression in the dimly-lit car.
After being friends for many years, Zachary knew better than to keep asking. He pushed his glasses and said earnestly, "If you still can't forget her, then you should forgive her for the mistakes she made in the past. Why bother torturing yourself?"
"Who says I can't forget her." Charles frowned and answered without a single hesitation.
Zachary smiled and leaned forward abruptly, unbuttoning two buttons on his blouse and fishing out the jade pendant that he was wearing on his neck.
"How do you explain this, then? I remember that b*stard Sterling paying a lot of money to make bids for the exact same one for his sister."
"It just happens to be the exact same one." Charles' eyes flashed. He could not even tell why he would lie about such a trivial matter.
Zachary snorted. âYou liar! When I saw Sophia for the first time, she was still wearing it on her neck. Now her pendant is gone and you happen to have the exact same one? How can there be such a coincidence in this world?"
Charles frowned, pursing his lips tightly and not uttering a word.
"You have nothing to say now, do you? You are simply..." Zachary had finally found a chance to taunt Charles and was just about to give him one hell of a lecture when someone knocked on the car window.
He had no choice but to let Charles off for a while. He then straightened up his body and rolled down the window.
The ones who knocked on his car window were two traffic policemen.
Zachary pushed his gold-rimmed glasses and assumed the posture of a gold medal lawyer. "How can I help you?"
The two traffic policemen exchanged glances with each other, wearing strange looks on their faces.
Then, the older-looking traffic policemen cleared his throat and said, âThis is a public area. Passersby can see everything you do in the car."
After saying that, he glanced at Charles whose blouse was slightly open with obscure eyes and shook his head.
Zachary looked stupefied. "???"
"If youâre in a hurry, then you can book a hotel nearby. If you are seeking excitement, then go into the wild. This is a public area, so please be aware of your influence on others," The slightly older traffic policeman said again before leaving with the other traffic policeman.
The voice of the younger traffic policeman came along with the breeze, "No wonder my sister sighs all the time and says that all the good-looking men are homosexuals..."
Zachary, "..."
What and what?
Charles moved away from him quietly.
"..." Zachary said with a stiff look on his face, "Iâm not interested in you."
He revved up the engine and did not continue with this topic which would result in emotional breakdowns for straight men. "If you still can't forget Sophia, then think over your actions from now on. You will regret it sooner or later if you continue to offend others like that!"
Charles took off the jade pendant and began to fidget with it. The mottled light and shadow cast on his face, showing a fleeting moment of the struggle in the depth of his eyes.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 124 She Could Not Figure Out What He Really Wanted To Do Zachary left after sending him back to the Harrisâ residence. Before leaving, he reminded him to go to the hospital if his leg hurt badly, asking him not to act tough.
Yvette was sitting on the couch in the living room. The eyes of the elegant woman who had always cared for her image were slightly pink at the moment. Her face was stained with a tinge of loneliness.
"Quarreled with Dad?" Charles asked after taking a glance at her.
Yvette smiled. "It's not really a quarrel, it's just..."
She choked with sobs. Tears flowed out the corners of her eyes before she could finish her sentence. She covered her mouth in embarrassment.
"Here, wipe your tears." Charles took out his handkerchief, handed it to her, and sat on the couch in front of her.
Yvette wiped her tears, adjusted her emotions in three to four minutes, and said, "It's nothing, really. Aunt Lewis called your Dad because she thinks that you and I are mistreating her, so your dad called me... He said that if Aunt Lewis ever calls him again to complain to him, then he will divorce me."
