Sophia did not hold back at all.
When Jenny heard this, she started crying again. She looked at her daughter and sobbed. âSoph, are you... Are you really trying to distance yourself from Mom and Dad?â
âIf you hadnât destroyed the family name, do you think Iâll come to look for you at a place like this?â James interrupted Jenny and looked at Sophia with disgust on his face. He said firmly, âIâll say this now. You have to leave this place and get out of B City. You may never come back to this place ever again!â
Jennyâs tears hung onto her eyelashes. She tugged on Jamesâ sleeve. âItâll be fine as long as Soph leaves this place. Why do you want her to leave B City? Sheâs only 20! She only has a high school diploma. If you chase her out of B City, how will she survive?â
âWhere there is a kind mother, there is a useless child!â James glared at her. âSheâs like this because youâre used to coddling her unconditionally!â
Jenny did not dare to say anything anymore. She only sobbed quietly at one side.
âSophia, do you hear me?â James looked at Sophia again. He was looking at her like she was something filthy.
Megan clenched her fists. She wanted to speak up for Sophia, but she was scared of offending the Whites. She hesitated for a while.
Sophia laughed. There was sarcasm in her eyes. âIâm not one of you anymore. You have no business interfering with what I do and where I do it, Mr.
White. Plus, you donât own B City, so who are you to ask me to leave?â
When Jenny saw that James was getting angry again, she was worried about his body. She went up to him and said, âSoph, youâre a girl, and youâre working in a club. Do you know what everyoneâs saying about you? Listen to me and leave this place, okay?â
She was advising Sophia, but there was disagreement in her eyes. There was even criticism and anger as well.
At the end of the day, her opinion about Sophia working in Dream Club was the same as Jamesâ. They thought their daughter was embarrassing. She was just beating around the bush.
Sophia looked at the two of them. Anger, dejection, and pain were all coursing through her veins. It was as if they would burst out of her veins in the next second and escape her body.
She laughed at herself. She felt resentful and helpless. âIf Charles wasnât using the Whites to threaten me, do you think I want to stay in a place like this?â
She knew she should not be hopeful toward her parents, but there was still a hint of wishful thinking when she was looking at them.
What if they came to their senses and began to regret what they did to her after knowing the truth?
Even though the chances were slim, but... they were still her parents after all. What if... What if there was still some familial love between them?
âYouâre hopeless!â James pointed at her. His face was purple from anger. His body was trembling uncontrollably. âHow can a person like you suffer for us? You only know how to ask money from us and expect us to clean up after you when you get into trouble!
âYou only came to Dream Club after you got out of prison because you canât go back to us, have no money, and you canât find any work. Thatâs why you came here to make some fast money! And now youâre saying youâre doing all these for us? Youâre just a liar!â
That statement poured over Sophiaâs head like a bucket of cold water. She was standing in her dorm, but she felt like she was standing in the cold in wet clothes. Her entire body was cold, and there was no ounce of warmth in her.
When she saw this, Megan walked over worriedly. She grabbed Sophiaâs hand and shook it slightly. âSophia, are you... okay?â
Sophia shook her head and removed her hand from hers. She walked to Jenny whose expression was fluctuating unpredictably and asked lowly, âWhat about you, Madam White? Do you think Iâm making all these up?â
Jenny looked at her and then at James. After she stammered for a while, she avoided Sophiaâs eyes and said softly, âYour dad is experienced. He wonât... He wonât make a mistake.â
âHeh!â Sophia laughed. While laughing, tears rolled down her cheeks.
She was so stupid. How dare she feel hopeful toward her parents...
Jenny looked at Sophia and felt horrible. It was as if a knife was stabbing her heart. âSoph, listen to me. Dream Club is not a good place. Youâre still young and pretty, so you can still make some money in this place, but whatâll happen when youâre older? By then...â
âMr. and Madam White are smart people. Itâs very impressive. I thought I was able to trick you with my little story.â Sophia wiped the tears away from her eyes and smiled. Aside from the redness in her eyes, there were no other traces that indicated she was crying.
The reason she stayed in Dream Club was indeed not because of the Whites. She stayed here for the sake of her brother and sister-in-law. It had nothing to do with her parents.
James grunted in disapproval. âYouâve been incarcerated for two years and youâre still so stubborn. Youâll die from the things youâre doing to yourself one day!â
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 113 There's Nothing To Apologize For âIâll die from the things I do to myself? Arenât you the one whoâs forcing your own daughter to a dead-end for profit?â When she remembered what Aunt Felicia said on her birthday, Sophia smirked wider and wider.
There was an ominous glint in Jamesâ eyes. He did not say anything.
On the other hand, Jenny was unhappy with what she said. âSoph, you attempted murder. Your father wanted to save you but couldnât. Plus, Charles even asked him to make a decision between you and the Whites. Your father had no choice but to give you up!â
âReally, Mr. White?â Sophia looked at James coldly.
Jenny could not stand this anymore. Her red eyes were full of anger. âSoph, youâre the one at fault. How can you blame everything on your father?
Canât you tell right from wrong anymore?â
âI canât listen to this anymore!â Meganâs expression changed. She finally decided to speak up after hesitating for a long while. She said emotionally, âSophia was the janitor before this. She only had a few hours of rest every day. Sheâs working a few times more than other people but her salary is way lower. Is this what you mean by fast money?
âIn other words, Mr. Sterling White, no, letâs talk about Madam Nicole White. She doesnât have any blood relations with Sophia and yet sheâs treating Sophia better than the both of you. At least she wonât come up and yell at Sophia out of the blue like you guys. Iâm seriously wondering if you people are really Sophiaâs biological parents!â
Though the Whites had a huge family business, they were no match to the Harrises. Even so, they were a powerful and well-known family in B City.
Also, James was active in doing charity, so Mr. and Madam White had high positions in their own circle or among other normal people. They had never met a person like Megan who dared to criticize them again and again.
Jenny was always kind and gentle. She never yelled at people in public. This time, she was speechless from anger.
Jamesâ face fell. However, he was taught not to argue with a young woman he did not know. He scoffed furiously and did not want to argue with Sophia and Megan anymore.
âI advised you nicely and you didnât want to listen, so don't blame me if I become heartless.â After he said that, he turned around and left.
