âAlright, Iâll add you to all of the work groups of Dream Club later,â Marie said and winked at him.
Charles pressed his lips together. âThe clientsâ impression toward Dream Club is not that good. I want to know what the staff are saying so that I can make sure if itâs a management problem or staff problem.â
âHow can I, the manager of Dream Club, not know about this?â Marie covered her mouth. Her beautiful eyes grew big from shock. âI didnât do my job properly. I should talk to the management. You have to take care of so many things in one day, so just leave this to me.â
Charles did not say anything. He just looked at her quietly.
Marie did not dare to do anything mischievous. âYou should not be as busy since youâll be staying in the hospital for a few days. Iâll add you to the groups later. To prevent scaring everyone into silence, I wonât tell them who you are.â
After hearing his reply, Marie nodded and opened the door.
However, when she grabbed the doorknob, she stopped. She leaned on the wall and smiled at him. âI think Sophiaâs not bad. Too bad Iâm not a man.â
After she said that, she exited the room before Charles could say anything.
The moment the door closed, Charles was all alone in the room. He sat there for a while before lying down to stare at the ceiling. His mind was running uncontrollably.
On 27th September two years ago, it was the day before Sophiaâs birthday.
There were a lot of people in the mall. Charles was surrounded by the management of the mall. He listened to their reports and would occasionally walk into the shops to understand what was going on.
When he went into a jewelry shop, he glanced around briefly and was attracted by a pair of rings. He then walked toward them.
The salesperson in the shop had come across a lot of people. However, this was the first time she came across a VIP customer. Plus, the manager of the mall was standing behind him.
It was as if the manager was the most insignificant among these people.
She smiled her best smile and tried to control her emotions. She looked over to what Charles was looking at. âYou have such good eyes, Sir. These are from our newest collection and are designed by the jewel master, Carlos Bellman. In B City, thereâs only...â
Charles did not have time to listen to this nonsense. He pointed at the glass case and said briefly, âWrap them up for me.â
The people behind him were looking at each other. This very important man had been working in this company for more than two years. He did not have a stable foundation but was doing this... The eldest and second eldest Mr. Harrises might talk about him in the next meeting.
âAlright.â When she thought about the commission she would get after she sold the rings, the salesperson smiled brightly. Her voice became even sweeter. âDo you want to look at other styles? We have a lot of new styles here.â
Charles handed her his black card. âItâs fine. Thank you.â
When the salesperson saw the black card, her eyes glistened. She became even more courteous. âYouâre welcome.â
She swiped the card with trembling hands before wrapping the rings. She handed the card and the rings to him. âHappy shopping. Please come again.â
Charles nodded and took his card and the ring boxes. Then, he turned around and walked out of the shop. The moment he stepped out, his phone rang.
A slight curve appeared on his lips. He took out his phone and saw the word âLeahâ. He stopped smiling and hung up the phone.
When the suited man on his right-hand side saw that, he said slowly, âNational Day is coming soon. Aside from promotions, the mall also has...â
Charlesâ phone rang again, interrupting the man.
Charles apologized and took out his phone to look at the caller ID. He frowned slightly and answered the call. âWhatâs wrong?â
âCharles, Sophia is drunk. Please come pick her up.â Leahâs gentle voice sounded worried.
Charles pressed his lips together. There was darkness in his eyes. âWhere?â
âMy house,â Leah said. âRyleigh and Elaine are here as well. I canât take care of three drunkards. If my mom sees us in this state, sheâll definitely scream at me.â
Charles said, âIâll head over now.â Then, he hung up.
âI still have something to take care of. Continue reporting this to Mr. Kendall.â He ordered the people behind him and left after taking his things.
However, Mr. Kendall stopped him. âMr. Harris, can we talk?â
Charles looked at the watch on his wrist and walked forward without saying anything.
âWith the interruption of the eldest Mr. Harris, your project in Sunny Garden is not that great. The chairman is not satisfied with you.
âNational Day is coming. The eldest Mr. Harris might hear about you leaving your work for personal business. If they tell the chairman about you, you might not be able to keep your position as the general manager.â Mr. Kendall stood next to him. He was speaking indirectly but Charles could understand what he meant.
Charles lifted his wrist to look at his watch. âAre you done?â
Mr. Kendall nodded.
âIf Grandpa wants to fire me for something so minor, then I have nothing to say. Iâll leave the rest to you. Send a copy of the National Day promotion plan to my email before six.â After he said that, Charles left.
Mr. Kendall watched him leave and sighed heavily.
20 minutes later, Charles drove to the Jones Manor. He got out of his car and went into the mansion. He asked the servants in the living room, âWhereâs Sophia?â
The two servants looked at each other. One of them walked forward and said, âPlease come with me.â
Charles grunted a reply and followed the servants up the spiral stairs while holding the ring boxes. After he got to the third floor, he turned right and walked into the first room.
âSophia?â He called out as he pushed the door open. He was hesitating whether to give the rings to the drunk Sophia or to give her during her birthday party tomorrow.
No one answered.
The room was empty. There was a crack on the window. The light blue curtains fluttered as the wind blew in. There was the smell of flowers.
Charlesâ face fell. He turned around to look at the servants. His voice was cold, âWhereâs Sophia?â
The servantâs nose started sweating when Charles looked at them. She lowered her head and answered carefully, âMiss Leah said I should bring you here if youâre looking for Miss Sophia.â
âWhere is Sophia?â Charles repeated impatiently.
The servant wiped away the sweat on her nose. Her voice was soft. âHalf an hour ago, I saw Miss Leah, Miss Sophia, Miss Ryleigh, and Miss Elaine having fun here. I donât know where they went.â

Charles frowned and walked away.
However, the servant got to the door faster than him and locked the door. âMr. Harris, Miss Leah said you should look opposite when youâre in this room.â
âGet lost!â Charlesâ patience was wearing thin.
The servant swallowed. Her brain was working fast. Then, she said, âPlease go take a look. I remember Miss Leah saying that sheâll hang out with Miss Sophia and the rest of the gang in the opposite room.â
