Chris let himself be led through the corridors, wanting to turn back and argue the case more. âHeâs still a prisoner.â Why? He didnât need to be a prisoner!
Chris glanced back as if he were going to backtrack, seeing one of the guards, Pete, behind them.
âWeâve said what we could,â Jaxson stated, subtly tugging his hand.
âWe should have said more. There was more to-â
âChris, we made our point. Itâs in your brotherâs hands.â
âYou donât think it worked⦠do you?â
âThereâs no point thinking until we know the outcome, then we can figure out a plan.â Jaxsonâs arm slid around Chrisâ back, tugging him forward.
Chris sighed but nodded in acceptance, letting Jaxson lead him up the grand staircase and towards the family wing.
Pete left them at the door and stood guard while Chris took more of a lead when they entered, after all, it was his home and allowed Jaxson to follow him into the sitting room. âAre you mad I kissed you?â Jaxson asked, holding himself stiffly.
âWhat? No.â Chris frowned, moving to the window to look out over the woodland.
âI⦠I just couldnât say it.â
âI didnât think you were going to admit it,â Chris whispered. âDid you know about Jesse?â
âHe told me, told me we werenât alone.â Jaxson walked up behind Chris, slinging an arm over the front of his shoulders. âWeâre not the only ones.â
Chris leant back, letting his head drop onto Jaxsonâs shoulder. âThere really are other same-sex matehoods?â
âYes.â Jaxson slid his arm around Chrisâ stomach. âStill want me?â
âYes.â
âEven though I could be jailed and you wonât see me?â
âI canât let that happen. It wasnât your fault.â
âIf it does?â
âIâll be by your side,â Chris promised, shifting in the embrace to be chest to chest with him. He cupped Jaxsonâs stubble lined cheek, âI wonât let you go.â
âMe neither.â Jaxsonâs hand reached up, tangling his fingers into Chrisâ silky walnut hair. His thumb came up to brush Chrisâ bottom lip. âYou really want me?â he breathed, an uncertainty in his cognac eyes.
Chris darted his tongue out, catching the thumb before smirking. âI think it should be me asking that.â He kissed the tip of Jaxsonâs thumb. âOf course I want you.â
âTell me Iâm yours,â he whispered, a clear anxiety in his every word.
Chris grabbed his hand, âYou. Are. Mine.â He punctuated each word with a kiss to each of his fingers. âIâm sorry you doubt me, Jax. Iâve been an idiot.â
Jaxson released his hand and cupped Chrisâ face, resting their foreheads together. âAs have I. Forgive me?â
âNothing to forgive. Do you forgive me?â Chris asked as he relaxed into Jaxsonâs hold. He felt warm, even with the impending uncertainty over their heads, he felt like nothing could disturb the feeling of sheer perfection flooding his system.
âOf course. You knowâ¦â Jaxson rubbed his nose against his. âWeâre not in the dungeon anymore.â he gave a somewhat cheeky smirk.
Chris chuckled, breaking away enough to run his lips down his jaw and neck, âWeâre not. Iâd kind of like to wait until itâs all⦠you know.â
âIf Iâm jailed?â the fear wasnât lost to Chrisâ ears.
Reaching up, he traced his cheekbone, nose, lips and jaw. His wolf rumbled happily, as did Jaxsonâs judging by the noises. âYou wonât be. I will never allow it. Iâll fight it, with everything I have Iâll fight it.â
âIf they make the decisionâ¦â
âWeâll run.â
âHuh?â Jaxson pulled away from Chrisâ caress, a frown firmly on his face.
âWeâll go to America, or⦠Italy. Anywhere.â
âTo the humans?â
âYeah.â
âYouâd do that?â
âIf they canât accept it? If they want to punish you? Yes.â
âThey wonât be punishing me for wanting you, theyâll be punishing me for my actions.â
âWhich you did because he was insulting me. He was insulting whatâs yours.â
A heat flashed in Jaxsonâs brown eyes. âMine.â He gripped Chris securely before walking backwards, his knees hitting the sofa. He glided onto the soft cushions, tugging Chris down on top of him.
Chris pushed himself up, taking his weight off Jaxson but was soon pulled back down, nestling him into his side, his head rested on Jaxsonâs chest. Jaxson tugged him closer, his arms around him while the back of the sofa nestled his back. He was tucked in so securely he felt nothing would ever touch him. Nothing could harm him. Nothing could break the comforting spell.
Chris buried his nose into Jaxson, nuzzling hard to soak in⦠him. All of him. His beautiful scent. His hard body. His comfort. Tingles shot up his arm with every brush of Jaxsonâs hand. He wanted more. Chris slipped his hand under Jaxsonâs t-shirt, instantly those pleasant shocks of electricity zapped through his hand. Jaxson sighed, a pleasant, contented sound.
It felt so right. Crushed against his side. He honestly wondered why he fought itâ¦. Or how he fought it until now. âHuman idiot.â His wolf happily pitched in. He grumbled to himself.
âCould stay like this forever,â Jaxson sighed.
âDo?â
Jaxson chuckled, his chest vibrating against Chrisâ ear and cheek.
âHate to say there are probably other things we have to do.â
âShush.â
Jaxson tightened his grip even more, âYour wish is my command.â
