The Chaos Council, Nine, Rusty Rose and an Eggforcer are watching Ryder and Sonic run around a hamster-ball like object. He runs and grunts while the ball generates sparks. As the room shakes, the hedgehog silhouette appears on Rusty Rose's screen, but an indicator flashes red, while Mr. Dr. Eggman smiles. Nine watches Rusty Rose's computer.
"Oh, I knew it! They've got the same energy that powers the city." Nine realizes.
They scream while they peel as fast as they can inside the hamster-ball. Blue, Black and Red streaks appear around it.
Inside the ball, a vestige of Shadow appears to them.
"Sonic! Ryder! It's broken! It's all broken." He tells them before disappearing.
"Shadow?! Uh-oh. I think I'm starting to hallucinate!" Sonic starts to panic.
"Keep running!" Ryder yells as they pick up the pace. The ball overloads, flashes and explodes the chamber in a massive shockwave, in a blizzard of multicolored circles, causing the Chaos Council to flinch. The shockwave covers New Yoke City and causes power to go out as soon as it touches buildings. The hedgehogs remain unconscious as the power stays shut down for multiple minutes before returning, reactivating all technology in the city.
Mr. Dr. Eggman, without his toupee, feels his bald head and screams. "My toupee! My toupee!" He finds it quickly and chuckles.
Dr. Done-It canes slowly towards his chair, but ends up pushing the chair further away with his cane. "Ah, so help me... I tell ya what, I..."
A Game Over screen and jingle plays on the video game Dr. Don't was playing. "Ugh! I almost had the high score!" He complains.
Wrecker Rex turns to the unconscious hedgehogs and ponders to himself. How did they do that?
Ryder shakes himself awake, and tries to recollect what just happened. "Ugh, that was a nightmare. I feel like I just got blasted by a giant laser." He said, struggling to get up.
"Paradox Prism." Ryder hears Sonic mumble. Hmm, so he's starting to remember what happened. Great. That should make it easier to find out how to fix all this. He sat up and turned to look at Wrecker Rex, who stared back. Who the heck is he? And how does he exist? As he ponders this, the ring-shaped generators hover over them. Circular domes of electricity retake his gloves and shoes, attracting itself to the generator. He is lured into the main room. He grunts, struggling to break free of the generator's grasp, and puffs out.
"So, what do we get for passing the test?" Sonic snickers and sighs, panting in exhaustion.
"Did those blue rats figure out a way to steal our power supply?" Dr. Done-It wonders.
A beep is heard on Rusty Rose's monitor.
e analyzes the energy coming from the Hedgehogs and finds out the truth. "Correction, Your Eminence. He did not draw on the city's power, but-"
"He brought his own." Nine tells them himself.
"What?! What do you mean, he brought his own? How does a hedgehog, let alone two, walk in here with the same power supply as our battery?" Dr. Deep finds this impossible.
"Wow, would you look at that? He got it right this time." Ryder quips.
"Quiet down, whippersnapper!" Dr. Done-It demands, while Sonic chuckles.
"Incredible. Our crystal plus his energy charge would give us enough power to finally stamp out the resistance and put an end to those pesky rebels forever!" Eggman said, maniacally.
"Wait, crystal?" Ryder thinks to himself for a moment. These guys have the Paradox Prism here? Could the solution be just within our grasp?
Dr. Babble babbles laser-zapping noises and giggles.
"Uh, really? Don't you think that's a little excessive?"
Dr. Babble babbles in anger, slamming his fist.
"You heard the baby. Energy Extractor!"
"What?!" Ryder cries out as steam flows through the chute in the ceiling. The Extractor moves down from the chute and closes in on Sonic's face, with two pointers sticking out.
"Anyone else having bad dentist flashbacks?"
"Cut out the prismatic energy he's got inside that prickly hide of his!" Dr. Done-it orders.
"Wait! Can a hedgehog say his last words?" Sonic asks. The extractor drops away from him. The Chaos Council have a think for a moment.
"Fine. But be brief!" Eggman allows him to courtesy of final words.
"Well... uh..." He inhales sharply, intentionally wasting time.
"Hey, hedgehog! Get on with it!"
"Right. I just wanna say that this life of mine has been a wild ride." Nine winks at Sonic. Sonic winks back at him. "Who would've imagined the places I'd go or the chili dogs I'd eat when I got there."
Dr. Done-It starts snoring, but Mr Dr. Eggman slaps him and wakes him up. "Uh, I'm here. I'm... I'm listening."
"But at the end of the day, it's not about the ups or the downs or the zigs or the zags. It's about the friends we made along the way."
Nine blinks, confused. He turns to Ryder with a look that says 'what the heck is he on about?'
Ryder just shrugs in response.
"Huh? Uh..." Sonic loses his train of thought before he looks at Nine, winking yet again.
"Enough with the winking already!"
"Dude, if you're trying to stall, try to make it less obvious!" Ryder whisper-yells at him.
"I'm almost done, I'm almost done. Where was I? Uh... uh... um..."
Ryder mentally facepalms himself as he leans to him to whisper: "Friends." He said.
"Ah, friends! Right! All right, let's see, um... Froggy, and Big, Ah, always there when I needed a pick-me-up. Rouge! Oh, Rouge with her... with her heart of gold hidden beneath her wings. And, uh, and Knuckles with his... knuckles!" Looking at Rusty Rose. "I would also like to thank Amy."
"Thanking? Does he think he's winning an award?" Deep asks as an annoyed Dr. Babble screams.
"Babbles is right. It's almost dinnertime. FINISH HIM!" Eggman yells and the extractor closes in on him again.
"Oh, already? But I'm not done. Hey, Sir Winks-A-Lot, there is a plan, right? Right?" Sonic asks Nine in desperation.
"Nope, sorry. Just dust in my eye." Nine wipes his eye.
Ryder's eyes widened. "Wait, what?" He looks at the extractor closing towards them. "Oh my gosh. We're all gonna die. And I never got to start a team called Team Chaos 3!"
"Yep." Sonic gulps. "Looks like this is game over." The Extractor glows red and spins rapidly. Mr. Dr. Eggman twiddles his fingers and smiles in excitement. Nine watches nervously. Ryder and Sonic try blowing at the extractor, to no effect.
"See ya, buddy." Sonic said with a sad look.
"Close your eyes Nine. You don't need to see this." Ryder advises Nine, who watches on in horror. His friend was gonna die again, at the hand of his real friend Rex. This is awful.
As Hedgehogs squeeze their eyes shut to brace for impact, the extractor is suddenly taken away from them at the last moment. Rouge arrives at the scene in her combat pose. The Chaos Council gasps in horror. Ryder opens his eyes and looks around just to check, and realizes he no longer has the extractor threatening him.
"Sonic, open your eyes. We're okay!" Ryder exclaimed with joy.
Sonic opens his eyes and sees the laser pointing away. He chuckles, happily. "We're alive! We're alive!"
The Chaos Council looks at Rouge and points to her. "Get her!" They all say in unison.
The Eggforcers start chasing and shooting Rouge, around the Extractor chute. Nine hides behind Rusty Rose's computer. Knuckles arrives too, bringing the vent with him.
"So, we done stealthing?" He asks Rouge.
"One hundred percent." She tells him. The two resistance members approach the Hedgehogs, but are blocked by Rusty Rose and Wrecker Rex, the former of whom extends her arms and grabs them, slamming them both into the wall. She holds them down.
"What's going on? I can't see. Wait, wait..." Sonic said as the negative momentum of Rusty Rose's pushing soon brings the extractor closer to Sonic. The red laser starts breaking the generator's hinge.
"Wait!" The hinge snaps off, the ring of the generator, along with Sonic who screams, rolls toward Ryder. The ring then bumps into the middle of Ryder's ring, causing damage and its shut down. The explosion pushed the androids away, freeing Knuckles and Rouge.
"Filthy rebels. Destroy them!" Eggman orders the Eggforcers, who charge and combat the resistance duo, but are easily defeated one after the other.
"Eggforcers, secure all targets." Rusty Rose tells the robots as more Eggforcers emerge from an elevator to combat the resistance duo. They charge at Renegade Knucks first, but he, with a war-cry grunt, knocks them all out with one punch. As Rusty Rose leaves her post, Nine takes over the computer and types on it with his tails.
Meanwhile... Ryder is struggling to get up after being freed. Sonic is still rolling, trapped in the generator's ring. An Eggforcer knocks it and sends Sonic into a spin, causing him to scream. While everything pans around him, the ring finally falls to the ground.
Ryder gets up from the ground and sees Rouge and Knuckles are fighting Eggforcers. He wonders to himself how they got there, but decides to fight first, and ask questions later. He backs away to get a running start and then spin-dashes towards three Eggforcers surrounding the duo, incapacitating them.
He uncurls to face them. "Thanks for the hand budd-" Knuckles tries to thank him but is then shocked to see the face of his long lost ally.
Rouge turns to them and sees Ryder and is shocked to see him. "Rex? Is that you?"
Ryder sees that they have the same look at him that Nine did. "Uhh, look guys, I know I look like your old friend, but I promise you, I'm not Rex." This news confuses and disappoints them before he points behind him. "He's over there."
They look at what he was pointing to see a recovering Wrecker Rex. Rex glares at the rebels in annoyance before charging at them quickly.
"That's Rex? Since when has he been a bot? And why is he charging at us?" Knuckles wonders out loud.
"Wait, what?" Ryder turns to see a metal fist about to slam to his face. He then receives a surprise punch from Wrecker Rex and is pushed back. Wrecker Rex extends his arm and grabs Ryder's wrist. He then proceeds to toss him to the computer behind Rusty Rose.
"AAAAAHHHHH!" Ryder then lands and notices Nine hacking the computer. "Uhh, what are you doing?"
"Getting our Blue friend to join the fight." He then finishes and shuts down the circular domes of electricity on Sonic's gloves and shoes. "Okay, hedgehog, you're up."
Sonic seems very dizzy as he stands up, and chuckles. "A bit woozy from all the lab testing.
"Well, how about something else to put you in circles." Ryder points at their compatriots, Knuckles and Rouge..
"Rouge? Knuckles?"
Knuckles is occupied with fighting Wrecker Rex, while Rouge carries Rusty Rose in mid-air.
"How do you know our names?!" Rouge questions Sonic. She kicks Rusty Rose down to the ground, but Rusty Rose extends her arm up and takes her down too. Rusty Rose lands perfectly, but Rouge lands on the ground roughly. She retracts her arm. Rouge kicks off and flies around after being chased by some Eggforcers.
"Rebel!" Knuckles cries out in worry before receiving a punch from Wrecker Rex.
"Learn to focus." Wrecker Rex comments.
"Oh yeah? Well, why don't you focus on this?!" He jumps up and quickly glides at Wrecker Rex who ducks just before he hits him and proceeds to hitch a ride on Knuckles' back. He grabs Knuckles, tossing him and causing him to crash into the wall, where Sonic and Ryder watch on.
"Oh, come on, Ryder. Why you gotta hate on 'em like that? I thought you were cool." Sonic groans, still feeling dizzy.
"Uhh, dude, that isn't me." Ryder comments from a distance as he runs up to his doppelganger to help his friends.
Sonic, still dizzy, dodges punches from Eggforcers and leans onto the wall. "Man, why is the room still spinning?" An Eggforcer goes for the ground pound on Sonic, but he dodges by jumping onto the platform, and jumping on the Eggforcer's head. He spins and homing attacks the next three Eggforcers, after the third one, he bounces awkwardly. "Whoa!"
He hits the Extractor, sending the open laser spinning around tearing a long line along the wall and the floor. Rouge evades the laser, which destroys an Eggforcer instead.
"Ugh, feels like their luck ran out." Knuckles said, hopelessly.
The laser continues to tear around the room. It heads towards the Chaos Council. They all duck. The laser cuts off the tops of their chairs.
"Or maybe not." Rouge comments.
The Chaos Council screams and dash into the elevator. The elevator takes them into a safe place while the three Eggforcers combat. One of them starts attacking Renegade Knucks, but the Echidna takes it down with one punch. The other two go to both of Knuckles' sides. Ryder silently speeds behind one and goes down on the ground behind its legs. He then smirks at Knuckles who understands immediately. Knuckles shoves the Eggforcer back and it trips on Ryder, and falls. Ryder then gets up, backflips on its head, crushing it, and does a homing strike in the chest of the third one, destroying its chest, and causing it to collapse.
He was about to receive a surprise attack from a fourth one who also gets punched by Knuckles. The duo look at each other and share a nod of respect, before Wrecker Rex returns and grabs both of them and slams them to the wall with his extended arms.
Meanwhile, Nine types on the computer. A buzzer sounds as he types an incorrect password, with a symbol of Dr. Don't appearing on his screen laughing. Annoyed, Nine types the password again incorrectly. Furious, Nine screams and bangs his fists on the keyboard.
The laser closes in on a dizzy Sonic. It just misses in front of him. Rusty Rose lands in a fury and attacks Sonic with a flying fist. He dodges. With him still dizzy, Rusty Rose punches him in the face, while Nine types the password, once again triggering the incorrect buzzer. He types again, with an Eggforcer close to him. He uses his other tails to lure it into the extractor's laser and destroy it. Renegade Knucks dodges attacks from Wrecker Rex until his enemy receives a homing strike from Ryder, who fights him on his own. Knuckles notices Nine and goes for him. Nine stops him with one of his tails while still typing the password.
"No. Catch up, Echidna. I'm one of the good guys. Just ask the Hedgehog over there." He points at Ryder who continues fighting Rex.
He looks at one of Nine's metallic tails, becoming suspicious, before turning to the battle, but before he runs in he turns back to Nine. "Do you know that guy? He looks familiar."
"If you think he's Rex the Hedgehog, he's not. Trust me. He established it completely."
"Yeah, I know. But he looks just like him. And now he's fighting some robot who also looks like Rex. What the heck is going on here?"
"Your guess is as good as mine, Echidna."
"Just tell me one thing. Are you Nine?"
Nine's eyes widened as he turned to face Knuckles. "How do you know my name?"
"Rex mentioned it when all this started. When we first started our resistance, Rex was there. We offered him a place, but said he needed to protect his friend Nine. I'm guessing he meant you. I'm betting you were a really close friend to him."
"Yeah... he was like a brother.... He really said that?"
"Yeah. And he meant it." Knuckles then returns to battle, leaving Nine to his thoughts. Huh, I guess he didn't want to abandon me after all. Nine turns to look at the roboticized version of his friend in sorrow. One day I'm going to get my friend back. But first I need him to chill out. Nine types the password incorrectly yet again. This time it mocks him and calls him a loser, annoying him once more.
Meanwhile, Ryder is preoccupied with his current enemy Wrecker Rex. As he continues to dodge his numerous strikes, Ryder thinks to himself. Okay, I just need to beat this guy, grab Sonic and Nine, and get the heck out of here. We could go to the place the Chemical Plant Zone used to be. Nobody ever goes to the Chemical Plant Zone. Not since the people there miraculously repopulated. He is taken out of his thoughts when he is hit by a slingshotting Wrecker Rex. He is then slammed to a wall, but quickly recovers and stands back up.
"I'm trying to tell you, your name is Rex. You're an enemy of the Chaos Council, and your best friend Nine is right there. Don't you recognize him?"
"Fabricated stories won't keep me from beating you back." Wrecker Rex responded as he sprinted toward Ryder in anger.
Ryder sighs. "Wow, he really is his best friend. Well, I had a good run." Wrecker Rex jumps into the air and prepares to ground pound Ryder.
Meanwhile, Sonic, cornered to the wall, dodges a few arm attacks from Rusty Rose, but gets caught this time. She swings and slams Sonic to the ground, and then into the wall. With Sonic completely trapped, Rusty Rose prepares one last fist attack. It along with the crosshairs aim at a yelping Sonic.
"Blue hedgehog, terminate." She retracts her right arm and her whole body flies towards Sonic.
Both Hedgehogs are about to face oblivion at the hands of the appalling androids. Do they stand a chance against them? And what is Nine planning to do? Find out next time on Sonic Prime: Shattered Hedgehog.
