Patrick patted Debraâs hand and quickly greeted him with a smile, âMr. Edwards.â
His greeting and smile made it seem as if he hadnât spat in Theodoreâs face just a few days ago.
When Theodore saw Patrick, his eyes widened slightly in disbelief. How could this man be here? What was his relationship with the Carter family?
Theodore pondered, his gaze crossing the man to scan the venue, and sure enough, he soon spotted Rebecca
inside.
Theodoreâs gaze was intense as he stared at Rebecca.
Debra furrowed her brow, discreetly pulling Rebecca behind her.
Patrick observed everything, smiling as he said, âMr. Edwards, the seating has been arranged. This way, please.â
âAre you a member of the Carter family?â Theodore stared at Patrick, questioning in a cold tone.
Patrick smiled, âMr. Edwards, you think too highly of me. Though my last name is Carter too, Iâm just a worker for the Carter family.â
He was a worker for his wife, working hard to buy her anything she wanted.
âBut I manage most of the Carter familyâs business in the country.â
Then, Patrick smiled, âMr. Edwards, this way.â
Theodore nodded and walked inside.
Jenny held Theodoreâs arm, curiously inspecting the decor of the store. She was filled with curiosity about everything in Zentiscape.
With the ribbonâcutting ceremony was about to commence, the host of Carterâs Jewel stood on stage, delivering formal speeches and lengthy accounts of Carterâs Jewelâs history and glory.

Soon, the staff reminded them that the planned time for the ribbonâcutting was approaching, prompting the host to halt the speech.

As the hostâs words fell, Theodoreâs eyes widened once more in surprise. Rebecca was the spokesperson for Carterâs Jewel?

Rebecca had been talking about divorcing him lately. She must be dreaming of marrying Charlie, mustnât she?
Did she think that divorcing him would pave the way for her to marry Charlie?
What a shameless fool!
Suddenly, Rebecca felt a piercing gaze upon her, and when she turned, she found Theodore staring at her with an almost predatory intensity, like he was about to eat her alive.
At that moment, Rebecca felt as if her throat was being constricted, suffocating her.
âDonât be afraid.â Charlieâs reassuring voice sounded from beside her.
âLetâs step outside,â Debra murmured, gently guiding Rebecca away.
Hearing Charlieâs comforting words and feeling Debraâs reassuring touch, Rebeccaâs fear began to ebb away.
So what if Theodore was there?
She had her parents and brothers by her side; she didnât need to fear Theodore.
âBe confident. Today is a milestone for us as the spokeperson of Carterâs Jewel,â Charlie encouraged her with a
bright smile, flashing his pearly whites.
Rebecca looked at his infectious grin and felt the weight in her chest lift as she nodded resolutely. âYouâre right.â
With her family, they made their way to the front. Amidst the guestsâ curious gazes and the flashing cameras, they cut the red ribbon at the entrance of Carterâs Jewel, heralding its grand opening.
Cameras flashed incessantly as they posed for photos.

As the ceremony ended, the crowd exited the jewelry store and made their way to the hotel for the opening banquet.
Unlike the exclusive ribbonâcutting ceremony with influential figures as their guests, the banquet welcomed a more ordinary range of guests.
And Janet had secured an invitation in that category.

As the ribbonâcutting ceremony concluded and the crowd began to transition to the hotel, Janet finally ar with a regular invitation in hand. With so many ordinary guests around, Janet smoothly passed through t checks and blended into the banquet.
Rebecca, along with her parents and Charlie, were busy greeting guests inside the hall and hadnât noticed anomalies at the entrance. Therefore, they temporarily remained unaware of Janetâs unexpected presend the gathering.
It wasnât until Rebecca caught sight of Janet that she paused, momentarily perplexed. How had Janet ma slip in?
Surely, the Carter family hadnât extended an invitation to the Mitchell family, and Janet couldnât possibly received an invitation either.
Janet, however, didnât see her presence as problematic. On the contrary, as she looked at Rebecca, she co help but wonder if Theodore knew about Rebeccaâs relationship with Charlie.
Just the thought of Theodore possibly figuring out that something was amiss between Rebecca and Char brought her immense satisfaction.
âHey, long time no see! Heard youâre the face of Carterâs Jewel now? Thatâs impressive, congratulations,â approached with a glass of red wine in hand, wearing a smile that concealed her true intentions.
Rebeccaâs smile slowly faded as she turned away, uninterested in engaging with Janet.
