Once again we all sat in the cabin in complete silence. The only sound that could be heard in the room was the ticking of the clock that hung on the wall above our heads. I guess we were either distraught about what had happen earlier or we just didn't know what to say.
I didn't say anything, because I knew it wouldn't make a different. There was nothing I could say to calm any one down or the give hope. I was sure no one has ever gone through such a traumatic experience before. It was hard to watch someone we know, get eaten right in front of our eyes.
"Why aren't they back yet?" Rebecca asked, breaking the silence. She sat on the floor in front of me, leaning her back on the couch. Her knees were up to her chest and her arms were wrapped around them.
"I don't know." Mr. Campbell responded.
"They should be back by now, right?" No one answered her, so she continued. "Unless the sharkgator got to them already. It's going to come for us next."
"Rebecca, you don't know that. We have to think positive here." I said.
She let go of her knees and twist to look up at me. "How do you say that?" She asked, her voice rising. "There is nowhere to go!" She began to tremble, as she rocked back and forth. "I can't believe this is happening. Oh God, I don't want to die!"
"Oh my God, Rebecca. Please, shut up!" Anna snapped. She was sitting on the other side of the room, curled up on a recliner.
Everyone in the room, turned to look at her with a surprised expression. It was a shock to everyone to see sweet and jolly Anna, raise her voice.
She sighed and looked at Rebecca apologetically. "I'm sorry. I'm just a little worked up and tense. This whole situation is turning me inside out and your freaking out isn't helping situation."
Rebecca nodded her head and we all fall into silence again, until Tamika spoke up. "I still can't believe Kyle, Natalie and Wade are gone." She shake her head sadly. "They were nice and caring people. Kyle was so sweet, friendly and outgoing..." She trailed off.
We all nodded our heads in agreement to what Tamika said. She was right. Kyle was the nicest person working at the company. Whenever he passed you, he would give you a friendly smile. Even if he was passing you for the tenth time that day. He flirted with the women and teased us to no end. He also got along well with each member of staff. I've never heard of him holding a grudge or talking bad about anyone. He was a perky person and everyone loved him.
Wade and Natalie were nice too. It was hard to come to terms with what happened to them. They didn't deserve that.
It was practically two and a half hours now since the guys had left. It was now beginning to get dark and I was getting extremely worried. I'm trying my best not to think about what Rebecca had said, because I don't want to think about the possibility of the sharkgator getting to them. I felt a heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach at the thought of something happening to them; especially Brian.
I couldn't explain this feeling, but the thought of something happening to Brian was making me numb. I couldn't bear not seeing him or hearing his voice again. I began to twiddle with my fingers and silently praying that they come back soon.
Suddenly, there was a loud rapping on the door, causing everyone in the room to jump. We all turned to look at each other and then to the door, wide eyed. Was it the sharkgator coming back for us?
There was the rapping again, followed by a familiar voice. "Guys open the door. It's us." Lance said.
Letting out a deep sigh of relief, I was the first one to jump from my position on the couch and to the door. I opened it quickly letting in the guys.
"Thank God, you guys made it back. We were beginning to worry." I said, relief evident in my voice. I closed the door again as the last person came in.
"The journey was difficult, but we didn't run into the sharkgator." Vincent said.
"So, did you guys got any cell service?" Mr. Campbell asked.
Brian shook his head sadly. "Nothing. Every area in the forest we went, we got nothing. It was getting dark, so we head back." He said, hanging his jacket behind the door.
"What are we going to do now?" Anna asked, folding her arms over her chest, hugging herself.
"Hey, where is Wade and Natalie?" Vincent asked, all of a sudden. His eyebrows furrowed, as he just noticed that they're missing.
"They decided to take the motor boat and go across the river to call for help." Mr. Campbell supplied. "The sharkgator caught up to them."
Mr. Raglan ran his hands over his face, rubbing it. He then ran his hands through his hair and closed his eyes. He opened them again and took a deep frustrated sigh. "Alright, there is nothing more we can do tonight. We have to get some sleep. We can take turns looking out for the sharkgator."
Brian, Lance and Vincent volunteered to take turns during the night. Brian took the first shift. Rebecca, Patrice and Anna took the three bedrooms and the rest of us stayed in the living room, occupying the two couches, the recliner and the floor. I went into one of the bedrooms to grab a blanket and came back in the living room and settled back on the couch.
Half hour passed and I still couldn't sleep. Everyone else that were in the living room with me were asleep. My mind couldn't shut off, so I laid there staring at the ceiling. Brian who was sitting on a chair, near the doorway, looked over at me and realized that I wasn't sleeping.
He stood up and walked over to me. He stooped down by the couch, so he was level with me. "Why aren't you sleeping?" He asked in a whisper, so as not to wake the others.
I sighed. "I can't sleep. I can't help but wonder what's going to happen if we won't be able to leave this place." I admitted.
He didn't say anything, he just remain quiet. Finally, he spoke. "You have to get some sleep. Once we're rested, we all can think of another plan tomorrow."
I nodded my head, even though sleep was still impossible. I closed my eyes and shifted on the couch, cautiously as to not wake up Tamika, who was on the other side of the couch.
As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but wonder, would we be able to leave this place alive?
