Chapter 7

Sharkgator1,246 words~7 min read

As soon as we began to run, the sharkgator moved as well. We, however, had a head start as he was a few feet away from us. We still run as quickly though, because it was fast.

After we were all inside the cabin, Brian closed the door quickly and bolted it. As soon as he did that, we heard a loud bang on the door, as the sharkgator pushed on it. It was so strong, that the wooden door shook with each shove. Brian braced his back on the door and Vincent joined him, to prevent the sharkgator from breaking down the door.

"What are we going to do?" Anna asked, as she began to cry. No one answered, because no one knew the answer to that question.

"We are going to die!" Rebecca shrieked, her voice high. "We are all going to freaking die!"

"Look, we all need to calm down." Mr. Campbell, who is usually the calm one, said. "No one is going to die. We just have to find a way out of here."

A half an hour has now passed and we didn't hear any sound coming from other side of the door anymore.

"Is it gone?" Natalie whispered.

Brian looked through the small window of the cabin and onto the front porch. "I don't see it anywhere."

"It must have gotten tired and given up." Patrice surmised.

"Yeah, for now." Lance said quietly.

We all sat down and started to think about what we were going to do. There was still no service on our phones and we had to get out of here. I wasn't sure how long the door would hold up.

After a while, Brian, Vincent, Mr. Raglan and Lance, who were over in the corner of the room talking, walked over to the rest of us.

"We are going for a walk and see if we can get some service." Mr. Raglan announced.

"What? You guys can't go out there. It's not safe." Tamika said adamantly.

"I agree." I added. I've seen what this creature can do and going back outside is a bad idea.

"I'm afraid we don't have any other choice." Lance said. No one else said anything, because we know he was right. We can't just stay here not doing anything, we have to try all alternative.

"Close the door behind us." Mr. Raglan said, as they set to leave. I stood up and walked over to Brian, putting my hands on his shoulders. He turned to look at me.

"Please be careful out there." I said. "That thing is still out there and...just be careful." I was really nervous about them going out, because I didn't want anything to happen to them.

Brian gave me a smile that did weird things to my insides. "I will." He replied.

He gave me a nod and left the cabin with the other three. I closed the door behind them and bolted it. I walked back over to the couch I was sitting on and sat down.

It was almost an hour and Brian and the rest hasn't got back as yet. We were still sitting in the living room in silence. No one said anything apart from a few comment being passed between us, now and then.

Suddenly, Wade stood up startling us. "I can't stay here anymore. I have to do something."

"Wade, what can you do? You have to be practical." Mr. Campbell said.

"Well, we sure as hell can't stay here. We have to find a way to leave." He argued. "For all we know, the sharkgator has caught up to the others and they're not coming back."

"You don't know that." Kate said.

"I don't care." He said determinedly. "Maybe, I could take the boat and go across the river unto the other side where the road is. I could go and call for help."

I shake my head. "I still don't think it's a good idea going into the water, Wade." I reasoned. "It's not safe. That creature is both fast on land and in water."

"I have to try and I think I can make it. I can take one of the motor boats. It's really fast. I was on one this morning." He replied.

I looked at him doubtfully. I still did not like the idea of him going into the water. Natalie stood up too. "I'm going with you. I don't want to stay here any longer either."

Wade nodded his head and they both left the cabin. They walked cautiously to the water, while Mr. Campbell, Kate and I stood on the porch, watching out for the sharkgator.

They finally reached the motor boat, that was tied to a board plank at the water's edge. They both got in and Wade untied the rope. He then went and started the engine. It revved to life and they were on their way. I breathe a sigh of relief as I didn't see the sharkgator anywhere.

They were far in the water, that I started to have hope that maybe they were going to make it, when I saw a ripple in the water as something followed them.

"Oh no." I said.

"What is it?" Kate asked.

"Look," I replied, pointing at the object in the water that was swimming towards the boat. I'm pretty sure it was the sharkgator.

"Oh God." Kate said, as she ran down the short steps and towards the water. Mr. Campbell and I followed after her. "Wade! Natalie! The sharkgator; its behind you!"

Natalie looked around as she heard Kate's shouts. She saw us waving our hands and then she divert her attention as she noticed the sharkgator gaining on them. It looked like she told Wade and he looked around as well.

I continued to wave at them. "Get out of the water!" I shouted as loud as I can. "Get out of the water now!"

Wade made a U-turn and began to head back in our direction. They were almost near shore, but it was too late as the sharkgator was right beside them now. It rammed its body against the side of the boat. It rammed against it again, this time harder and I watched in horror as Wade and Natalie fall out and into the water.

"Swim!" Mr. Campbell shouted.

"Hurry! Swim!" Kate and I shouted as well, urging them on.

Wade and Natalie splashed water as they began to swim fast. Just then, I heard Wade let out a shout as he went under. He came up back again, fighting to stay above water. He went down again, screaming in agony. I didn't see him again. All that was left in his wake were ripples where he once was.

Natalie was swimming faster than ever, while we still urged her on. However, her efforts were useless as the sharkgator caught up to her too. She screamed as the sharkgator grabbed a hold of her. She wiggled and writhe in the water, as she tried to stay up.

"Help me, please!" She shouted. "Help me..." The rest of her sentence was cut off by a gurgle and the sharkgator pulled her under again.

There was nothing more we could do. All that was left in their wake, was the bloodstained water.
