That night, I couldn't sleep. I grabbed my thick sweater and threw it on. I left the cabin and closed the door quietly behind me. The night air was cold, so I wrapped the sweater closer to my body.

There was a log close to the cabin that overlooked the river. I walked over it and sat down. Even though it was chilly, the night was peaceful and quiet.

I was out here for less than two minutes, when I heard a snapping sound. It was followed by a rustling sound and I looked over in the direction, my eyes wide. I was still looking in that direction, when I saw Brian coming through the bushes.

I took a deep breath and placed my hand over my heavy beating heart. "Gosh! Brian, you scared me."

He walked over to where I sat on the log. "Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." He sat beside me. "What are you doing out here all alone?"

I hugged my arms around my chest and looked out in front of me. "I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get some fresh air." I turned to him. "What are you doing out here?"

"I was actually outside, when I saw you leave the cabin. I decided to check what was up." He explained.

I didn't say anything and we fall into a comfortable silence. I was looking out towards the river again and what happened today resurfaced in my mind. "Is it possible for something to be living in this water?" I heard myself ask.

Brian looked around at me curiously. "Something like what?"

"I don't know." I said, shrugging.

"Why do you ask this?" He asked, still looking at me.

I sighed and shook my head. "It's nothing. It will probably sound stupid."

He put his hands on my shoulders, forcing me to look at him. When I did, I regretted it. His chocolate brown eyes stared straight into my plain brown ones. "Allison, I don't know you for ever saying something stupid or irrelevant. You have always thought about something thoroughly before you voice it or present it. So for you to say something stupid right now? I don't think so." He shook his head with emphasis. He was still looking at me, encouraging me to say what I was going to say before.

I finally drag my eyes from his intense gaze. What was wrong with me? I have never been uncomfortable around Brian before. Now, every time I was around him, I become flustered.

You have to get yourself together, Allison. This is unlike you.

I cleared my throat and looked back at him. I have to tell him about my suspicions that there was something - probably dangerous - in the water. It was nagging me all day and I have to tell someone. "When we were in the water today, Tamika felt something brush against her leg. I can't stop thinking about what it could be."

"Something in the water?" He looked towards to river as he spoke. His expression looked doubtful. "What could be in the water?"

I shook my head. "I don't know, but Tamika said it felt huge. I just have a bad feeling about it." I said.

Brian looked at me again. "If you think there is something dangerous in the water, we have to tell the others not to go in it then."

The air was getting colder, so I tightened my arms around myself. "No one will believe. It's no use." I replied.

We sat in silence again for a short while, until Brian turned to me. "You have to get some sleep and the night is real chilly."

I nodded my head and stood up. He followed my actions and turned to face me. "Goodnight."

"Good night, Brian."

I turned towards my cabin and he walked away in the direction of his. As I was about to open the door, I heard a light splash and I looked towards the river. I saw ripples spreading out at an area as if something had just went under. I pulled my gaze from the river and went inside.

Yes, something was definitely in the water.

"So, you guy are going exploring?" Mr. Campbell asked a few of us, who had decided to go on a walk.

"Yes," I responded, as I wrapped an elastic band in my brown curls to tame it.

"We want to come too." I heard Patrice say as she walked up to us with Rebecca by her side.

In the end, more people decided to join us. In all it was seven of us; me, Tamika, Kate, Patrice, Rebecca, Kyle and Vincent. The others who were left, were in the water rafting or on motor boats. I did voice my concerns about going into the water, but as expected, no one took my warnings seriously. Thankfully, Brian took my warnings into consideration, because he, Mr. Raglan and Lance took off in search of fire wood.

After everyone got what they would need for our journey, we took off on the right side of the river, for the forest.

During our walk, we saw a lot of fruit trees, small ponds, birds and a few land animals. I must admit, this place was really lovely. Thankfully, I had brought along my camera, so I snapped a few pictures.

Suddenly, Patrice spoke up. "Wow, look at this. A white orchid. I've never seen one of them before." She stopped to inspect the orchids that were growing beside an oak tree.

I walked towards her, so that I could take a look. When I was near her, I stumbled as my foot kicked something. I looked down to see what it was and a gasp escaped my lips.

"What is it?" Kate asked, walking over to me.

"It's a rabbit." I said.

"Or what's left of him." Kyle said as he stood beside me.

"What do you think did that to him?" Rebecca asked.

"I don't know." I said, trailing off as I observed the animal.

"Maybe it was a coyote." Tamika supplied.

Patrice snickered. "Are you expecting me to believe that there are coyotes in this forest?" She threw her hands up in the air. "That's absurd. I don't think there are any dangerous animals here."

I wasn't really listening to Patrice. I was still looking at the rabbit. It was definitely a dangerous animal that did this to it and by the size of the bite marks, it was something big. It was probably fast too, if it was able to catch a rabbit, who is a fast animal.

I heard a rustling sound and I looked behind Patrice, where the sound had came from. What I saw in front of me caused my eyes to go wide and for fear to lodged in my throat. I saw that everyone else saw it too, except Patrice who was still talking about animals.

Shock took my voice as I stared at the creature. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. It was an alligator with the head of a shark. It was the biggest creature I have ever seen in my life.

It stood there looking at us with its beady eyes and razor sharp teeth, getting ready to attack.
