The next morning, Kate, Tamika and I were standing in the cabins main room drinking coffee. Yesterday, we had chosen one of the cabins for ourselves. The cabins were relatively small, but it was more comfortable than sleeping in tents.
Tamika placed her cup on a small, round table and looked at us. "So, what do we plan on doing today?"
"We can go for a swim, like the others. I, for one want to test out the waters." Kate suggested. "It does look inviting."
"Okay. Let's go then." As I said that, I went into the small room that I occupied by myself to get my bikini from my bag. I put on the bikini and put on a white T-shirt and blue, jeans shorts over it and left the cabin with the girls.
Kate was indeed right, a few of our coworkers were already in the water enjoying themselves. I saw Wade and Brian out in one of the small boats, fishing. They both looked over at us and waved. We waved back. It looked like they had already caught enough fish, because they started the boat and headed for shore. When the boat stopped, they came out. Wade carried a small pail full with fish. They walked over to us.
"Fish breakfast for everyone!" Wade said, holding up the pail high and smiling triumphantly.
"Wow, you guys caught a lot." Kate praised. Smiling, they both turned away with the fish. "We'll soon be there. We're going to have a swim first."
"Okay," They both said over their shoulders.
We turned around and continue walking towards the water. I took off my clothes, leaving my red bikini and went into the water. Kate and Tamika followed my actions and came into the water as well.
When the water was waist high, I stopped and turned to Kate. "You were right, the water feels amazing." She just smiled. I continued into the water and began to swim.
I was in the water for five minutes now, when I heard Tamika let out a small shriek. I looked over in her direction, which was a few feet away from me. Her eyes were wide as she let out a gasp.
I frowned. "Tam, what's wrong?" I asked.
"I felt something brush against my leg." She answered, not looking at me. Her eyes were busy scanning the water.
Kate swam up to me. She was on the far side of the water, when she heard Tamika shriek. "Like what?" She asked.
Tamika looked scared. "I don't know, but it was huge. The water moved heavily." She responded. She let out a scream again, this time louder. Patrice, Natalie and Kyle who were also in the water looked over at us. Their face was lined with confusion.
"Oh my God! It brushed my leg again!" Tamika was saying frantically.
"We better get out of the water." I said, acting fast.
Natalie who had heard me, shouted at us. "What's going on?"
"I don't know! We have to get out of the water!" I shouted back. As I said that, I turned and began to swim fast to shore. Kate followed behind me.
Kate and I reached shore before Tamika, because she was further away from us. Kate and I urged her on as she swam to shore. Finally, she reached and laid on the sand to catch her breath. Her eyes were still wide with fear. I turned to see that the others who were in the water, got out and were walking towards us.
"What happened?" Natalie asked as she, Patrice and Kyle reached us.
"I felt something brush against my leg." Tamika explained.
Natalie looked out to the water and back at Tamika. "You know what it was?"
Tamika shake her head and swallowed. "No, but I knew I didn't like it."
Suddenly, Patrice threw her hands up into the air in frustration. "Seriously? It could have been a fish or a seaweed for all we know. I can't believe you're being so over dramatic. This is silly." She turned away and began walking back to the cabins. She was mumbling something about how Tamika had ruined her morning swim.
Natalie watched Patrice walked away and shook her head. She then turned to us and shrugged. "I don't know what it could be. Maybe a rock or something else." She said.
"Yeah, it could be." Kyle agreed. "I don't think this water has anything in there, but fish and some other water animals." He lift his shoulders up and down in a shrug.
"I'm going back to the cabins. See you later." Natalie said and walked away. Kyle went with her.
I looked at Tamika. "Are you okay?" I asked.
She nodded her head. "It was not a fish or a rock. I know it wasn't." She said adamantly.
Kate and I locked eyes and then looked back at Tamika. "We believe you, Tamika." Kate said.
I looked over at the water. It was still. I didn't see any unknown movements in the depths of the water. What could have been in the water? Honestly, I didn't want to find out. I brought my attention back to Kate and Tamika. "One things for sure, I'm not going back in that water."
Tamika stood to her feet, looking over her shoulder at the water. "Yeah, definitely not." She agreed. We took up our clothes and then walked towards the cabins.
As long as we don't go into the water again, whatever was in there, won't trouble us. It was much safer on dry land.
