"Hello colleagues," Mr. Raglan greeted with a smile as soon as he entered the room. "You all must be wondering why I've called you all here."
Everyone in the room nodded their heads in agreement and looked at Mr. Raglan curiously. He still had the smile on his face as he looked at everyone. I was now curious as to what he was excited about.
Finally, everyone quieted down their whispered chatter and Mr. Raglan continued. "Well, I want to inform you that this company has improved tremendously over the years." He paused for a while as everyone clapped. He then continued. "We are getting more sales and Wendell's Toys and Games is now one of the top toy company in the country." We all burst into another round of applause.
"Anyway, I've invited you here to tell you that, because of your hard work, we are all going on a trip to relax and to just unwind. You all deserve it." Mr. Raglan continued.
As soon as he said that, whispered chatter and excitement erupted in the room. Everyone talked at once as they mulled over what Mr. Raglan had said. I looked over at Tamika and Kate and lifted my eyebrows in surprise. Of all the things I expected Mr. Raglan to say, this was the last thing I expected. I was excited though. It has been awhile since I've been on a trip and God knows I needed the break. Plus, Kate is always telling me that I needed a break from working so much.
Kyle Munro, a guy with curly brown hair that desperately needed a cut now, raised his hand to get Mr. Raglan attention. He was a nice guy, who flirted with everyone woman he comes into contact with. "Where are we going?" He asked.
"Westgate Lake, down south. I've rented cabins for us and there's a lake for you all to swim in. The man who rented me the cabins said that there are canoes, boats, motor boats, water ski plus more." Mr. Raglan explained. "We leave here on Friday."
Everyone was excited because one, we were getting a break from work and two, we were going on trip that seemed awesome and fun.
------
"So, you're going on the trip as well?" I heard someone asked. I was so engrossed in my work that I didn't see that someone stood over my work area, looking down at me.
I looked up and my eyes met Patrice Webley. She was still staring at me, waiting on my response.
"Yes, I am." I answered, looking at her curiously. Why would she ask that? Why wouldn't I go? It was a staff trip after all and I was a part of the staff.
Her pale green eyes widen in mock surprise. "Wow, I can't believe you're actually going, seeing as how you are always working." She said.
Patrice was not necessary a person to hold a conversation with me, so I was a bit surprised. Also, since I've got here Patrice hasn't shown a nice gesture towards me. In fact, I was pretty sure she and her friend Rebecca Hughes would whisper behind my back when I walked by their cubicle. I don't know what I've ever done to her. I've been nothing but nice to her since I have got here. She has been here long before me. Possibly, she has been here the same time as Kate.
Personally, I think Patrice doesn't like me because we are vying for the same position and because I'm always working, she feels that Mr. Raglan would give me a promotion instead of her. She is the most vain and self-obsess person I knew and most of the time, I didn't agree with her morals and the decisions she has made. Every idea that I've proposed in boards meetings, she would disagree and said that she didn't like it.
"It's a staff trip, so I don't see why I wouldn't go." I replied.
She smiled at me, but even I knew it wasn't genuine. "That's good for you." She replied. "Well, see you around Allison." As she said that, she walked away. I watched her as she go. Her curly black hair that hung loose on her shoulder, bounced as she walked.
"Woah, what's up with her?" I turned as I heard Kate's voice. She was on her side of the cubicle looking over. She was leaning on the partition giving Patrice a skeptic look as she walked away. Being that her cubicle was directly beside mine, I knew she heard our conversation.
I shrugged. "I don't know." I seriously don't understand anything when it comes to Patrice. "For some reason, she hates me."
Kate waved her hands dismissively. "Ah, don't take it personally. She hates everybody." She lowered her voice to a whisper, before she continued. "I believe she loves attention and don't forget that she thinks she is better than everyone else."
"How can I forget?" I said, rolling my eyes. Kate laughed at my response, before moving away and sitting back in her seat to continue with her work.
