"So what is the plan?" Brian asked, as we both sat down on the couch.
Mr. Raglan, who was now sitting on the couch in front of us, clasped his hands together and sat forward. "We've found ropes, a pole and a hook in the basement. Vincent, who's great a making it, will make a trap with the hook and ropes. We'll use one of the meat in the fridge as bait to lure it to the trap and capture it." Mr. Raglan explained.
"What are we going to do with it once its captured?" Brian asked.
"We are going to kill it." Mr. Raglan stated after some thought.
"Kill it? How are we going to do that?" I asked. I didn't know if we had the right weapons to kill a six foot, four hundred pound, killer sharkgator.
Mr. Raglan shrugged. "I don't know how we're going to do that yet. We'll see what else we can find in the basement." He said. After thinking about it, he added. "Maybe the hook will lodge in its stomach and he would bleed internally and eventually die." He sounded hopeful. "Even if that doesn't work, capturing it is a start and will do us all good."
I nodded my head. "Sounds like a plan. Let's do it. We don't have any other option anyway." I replied.
Anna, who stood by the couch beside me, nodded her head as well. "I agree. This is the only plan we have so, let's do it."
"Good. Vincent is in the basement now getting the trap together." Mr. Raglan replied. Just as he said that Vincent appeared in the room, holding a pole. On it was a rope, doubled so it's strong and at the end of it was the hook.
"It's all done and I'm ready." He announced. He walked over to the fridge to retrieve the meat.
Mr. Raglan stood up from the couch and clapped his hands together. "Alright, let's see if this is going to work."
Vincent took out a whole chicken from the fridge and attached it to the hook. "I'm going to climb up in the tree and lower the rope down with the chicken. Hopefully, I don't have to wait long." He said as he head to the door. We followed him to the front porch.
"Vincent, please be careful." I said as he look on both sides for any sign of the sharkgator.
He looked around at me when I spoke. "Don't worry, I will."
I nodded at him as he stepped from the porch and quickly head for the oak tree that was beside the cabin. He climbed it and perched on a limb that was far from the ground.
Tamika walked up beside me as we all watched. "Do you think it's going to work?" She asked me in a worried voice.
I shrugged. "I sure hope so, Tam."
We were all on the front porch, watching and waiting for about ten minutes now, when we finally saw the sharkgator coming out of the bushes.
"Everyone, get inside now!" Brian shouted as we all scrambled to get back inside the cabin. Once inside, I rushed over to the window to watch what was taking place.
The sharkgator head for the chicken that hang from the pole that Vincent held. It was obvious that it was the scent of the chicken that lured the sharkgator. It knew its intent. I must say, it was really good to be able to pick up on the scent so quickly and was able to find where it was coming from.
When it was near the chicken, it lifted its head into the air and snatched it from the string that was hanging a little bit from the ground. As soon as it did that, it pulled back and let out a gut wrenching noise that cause my entire body to shiver. My heart was beating fast in anticipation. I held my breath as I watched the sharkgator laid its head on the ground and closed its eyes.
"Is it hurt?" Tamika, who was behind me asked.
I lifted my shoulders in a shrug. "I don't know, but it sure look so."
I shifted my gaze to Vincent who was descending the tree. I moved from the window the same time as everyone and we rushed to the porch to see what was happening.
When Vincent was on the ground, he walked over to the sharkgator with a rope in his hands to tie him up. However, as soon as he got close, the sharkgator lift up its head and snapped at him. Vincent back up and fell on the ground on his back. A gasped escaped my lips as I saw the sharkgator attacked again. Vincent sat up instantly and grabbed a knife out of his pants pocket. Just as he did that, the sharkgator grabbed his left leg and he cried out in pain.
"Vincent!!" Kaitlyn and I shouted at the same time and moving toward the steps. Before we got anywhere, Brian held on to both our hands and pulled us back.
I looked around to meet his concern expression. "There is nothing you guys can do. It's way too strong and powerful." He said in soft voice. I nodded my head and looked back towards Vincent who was stabbing his knife hard and repeatedly into the head of the sharkgator. It still didn't let go and I watched in horror as it pulled him away into the bushes.
I covered my face with my hands and took a deep sigh. This can't be real. I can't believe Vincent is gone. I didn't expect this happen. In the midst of my thoughts, I felt a warm hand slip into mine and gave it a light squeeze. I looked around to give Brian a smile of gratitude, but I couldn't. I couldn't summon a smile on my face. Not when all of this was happening. Not when everything was getting worst instead of better. I looked at everyone and saw that they were still frozen shock on the porch as well.
This was really happening. We were in a nightmare with no way of waking up. I looked back to Brian and without a word, he pulled me into his embrace. I snuggled into his comforting embrace and closed my eyes, feeling silent tears slid down my cheeks.
