I was still up in the tree, but now I hugged the tree trunk and rest my head on it. My face was tear-stained, due to the silent crying that I'd done earlier. I really don't know how much more of this I could take.
A slight shiver ran throughout my body as I remember what happened twenty minutes ago. It was vicious and even though I tried to block it out, the event kept playing through my mind over and over, like it was set on repeat. I couldn't shake the fear that had engulfed me since then. I wanted this nightmare to be over. I wanted to get out of this place. The thought of sitting in my apartment, catching up on some work or reading a good book sounds appealing right now.
I haven't seen the sharkgator since then, but who knows, it was probably hiding out like the last time. Hiding out and waiting for the right time to strike. I shake my head, it was one sly creature and too smart for its own good. I turned around and looked at everyone. They were all quiet as well, probably distraught about what happened earlier. What's been happening since we got here.
"How long are we going to stay up here?" Patrice asked, breaking the silence.
"We don't know where the sharkgator is, we can't take any chances." Vincent answered.
We all fall into another silence after that. I really hope the sharkgator has gotten bored and left, because we can't stay in the trees forever. It would be dark soon. I looked at the watch on my wrist to see the time. 5:50pm. We've been out here for so long, that I haven't notice the time passing by.
After another fifteen minutes passed, Mr. Raglan spoke up. "I guess we can come down now." He said, looking at us for confirmation.
Lance nodded. "We can come down and make a run for it just to be safe." He replied.
"That makes sense." Anna said. I was in agreement, because we have been in the trees for about forty five minute now. Surely, the sharkgator can't still be here.
After everyone agreed, we took our time and climbed from the tree. When we were on the ground, I looked around me. I didn't see the sharkgator anywhere, nor hear any movements, but of course that didn't mean anything.
"Alright, let's go." Vincent said and we began to run.
We were running for only a short while, when Kate stopped us. "Wait!" She said. We all looked at her. "Look over there!" She said, pointing a few distance in front of us.
I looked to where she pointed and see a small cabin, almost hidden by a few trees. It looked like our luck has turned over.
"Let's go over there." I said and began to walk in the direction of the cabin. Everyone followed behind.
When we reached up to the door of the cabin, Mr. Raglan knocked on the door. There was no sound inside. As expected, no one was here. Mr. Raglan then searched the outside and found a key under a welcome mat at the front door.
When he pushed the key in the lock and began to turn it, Anna stopped him. "What are you doing?" She looked at Mr. Raglan as if he'd lost his mind. "We can't just enter someone's place. This is not right."
Mr. Raglan looked at Anna raising his eyebrows, a corner of his mouth lifted into a half smile. "Well, there is a vicious and hungry creature after us, I guess that is a reason to enter. They would understand."
Anna thought for a while, then sighed. "You're right." Anna replied and indicated for him to continue opening the door.
When the door was unlocked, Mr. Raglan pushed the door open and we cautiously entered. When I was inside the cabin, I looked around. The room where I stood was clustered a little, with different types of books, textbooks and papers scattered on a table in the middle of the room. The walls were overcrowded with different things hanging from it from fishing rods to all types of souvenirs. Also in the room was a freezer, a small television on a round table, a couch and a book shelf.
Mr. Raglan walked over to a picture frame that was on the table and picked it up to look at it. "This cabin belongs to the man who owns the place." He informed us after a while. He held the photo frame up. "This is his picture."
"Well, he shouldn't mind us staying here then." Kate said.
Lance opened the freezer that was in the corner of the room. Patrice and Tamika where beside him. I walked over to them. As soon as Patrice looked in the freezer, she made up her face and turned away. "Whoever this man is, he has a weird eating habit and he has a strange obsession with meat."
When I reached the freezer, I took a peek inside to see what Patrice was talking about. Inside the freezer were meats. Lots of it and they were from different animals. They were the only thing that was in the freezer. What was this man doing with so many meats? I thought, puzzled. I mean surely he didn't need so much. It just didn't make any sense. I turned away from the freezer and Lance closed it again. Looking at the sight of the meat was making me feel sick.
I went over to the chair that was behind the table and sat down. I saw that some of the books on the table were biology textbooks. I reached my hands for some of the papers that were scattered across the table. As I scanned the content of the pages, my eyes became wide with shock and horror.
"I can't believe it." I whispered under my breath. I felt disgusted as everything clicked into place "Guys, come look at this." I said, beckoning everyone over. "You won't believe this."
