"What are we going to do now?" Tamika asked, scanning the area. We were in the part of the woods, where small streams ran. The place was a canopy of tall trees, different types of flowers and grass everywhere.
"We could continue walking." Mr. Campbell suggested. "Maybe we can find an entrance out of here."
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." I nodded my head in agreement. It's best if we continue to walk, so as to get as far away from the sharkgator as possible. Just thinking about that sharkgator catching up to us, was making me shiver slightly.
I felt my hand being lightly squeezed and I looked up at Brian. I didn't even realized that he was still holding my hands since we ran from the sharkgator minutes ago. Even though it was comforting, I felt a little bit uncomfortable and the situation was a little awkward, so I discreetly pulled my hand away.
He looked a little confused when I pulled my hand away, before he looked away, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"Alright, let's go." Mr. Campbell said and began to turn.
"Wait," Mr. Raglan said, holding his hand up in the air. He was looking on his cellphone that was in his other hand. "I've got a little service now. I'm going to try and call Pete again." He said referring to the bus driver.
After calling his phone twice, Mr. Raglan still didn't get any response. He then proceeded to call the owner of the place. Luckily, the man picked up and Mr. Raglan began to speak, getting directly to the point.
"Why wasn't I informed about the dangerous specie that is living here?" He asked into the receiver. He then sighed, losing patience. "A weird creature. It is some kind of alligator with the head of a shark."
I couldn't hear what the man was saying on the other line, but it could not be good. Mr. Raglan's shoulders tensed and he gripped his cell phone tight in his hands. "What do you mean by you weren't aware of that? You have people here all the time, you must have figured something was up." He listened again. "Look here, I'm not really interested in what you have to say. Four of my employees are dead!"
Even though I didn't know this guy, I already didn't like him. Based on what I'm gathering, he doesn't sound like a very nice person. I focused my attention back to the phone conversation. Mr. Raglan laughed dryly. "I'm sure you are. Look, can you get some help here ASAP?" There was a long pause this time, before he spoke again. "You better try your damn hardest, else I'm holding you accountable. You're already in the dog house, as far as I'm concerned!"
Mr. Raglan hung up the phone and ran his hand down his face in frustration. "Dammit!" He muttered. I've never seen Mr. Raglan this angry before, so seeing him like this was strange to me.
Mr. Raglan was a kind man. He didn't have any trouble with any of his staff members, because we always produce great work. I've only seen him upset over some decisions the board has made or problems from our competitors. Even then, it was small and didn't leave any great impact, but now, I could see he was extremely angry.
"What did he say?" Brian asked.
"He said that he'll see what he can do in getting help here, but if you ask me he didn't seem all that interested." Mr. Raglan answered.
My eyebrows furrowed. "What do you mean?" I asked.
"When I told him about the sharkgator, he was casual about it like I was talking about the damn weather." Mr. Raglan replied. "Our situation didn't faze him at all. The bastard acted indifferent about the whole thing."
"You think he will get help here soon?" Mr. Campbell asked, entering the conversation.
"I sure hope so." Mr. Raglan answered, with a sigh. He looked towards Vincent who stood a few feet away from us. "James, which direction is best for us to go?"
Vincent looked at the compass in his hands. "I think it's best if we head west." Vincent replied, after a while.
"Alright then guys, let's go" Mr. Raglan said, as he began to walk.
We were walking for a long time now and still haven't come across any roads. The forest stretched for miles and went on and on. It felt like we were walking in circles, but I knew we weren't.
"My feet are killing me." Anna grumbled from behind me.
We had reached a clearing where some huge rocks decorated the grass, so Mr. Raglan, who was ahead of us stopped. "We can stop here and rest for a while." He said.
Everyone agreed and went to sit on the rocks. I walked over to the rock that Kate sat on and sat down with a sigh. We sat there for a while, deep into our own thoughts, until Kate turned to me.
"You think it's possible for us to get out of here?" She asked, her eyebrows creased with worry.
I shrugged. "I don't know, but I sure hope so." I said, looking in front of me. I really wanted to get out of here. The idea of being here when the sharkgator was still out there, was causing goosebumps to spread over my arms.
"That thing is weird. I've never seen something like it before. It just doesn't make sense." Kate said, deep in thought.
"Yeah," I agreed. "I think it was genetically altered during conception. That's the only explanation I have for something to look like that."
Kate looked at me, her eyes filling with horror. The question in her eyes, was reflecting the very same question I have in my head.
"Who would do something like that?" She asked anyway. "And why didn't they warn someone that it was living here?"
