Many times, it wasnât that she was heartless, but that she didnât want to see him fall into trouble.
Perhaps there was some hatred five years ago, but after getting married, she had been trying to accept him.
She wanted him to be well and perhaps, they could even live together happily.
She kept walking along the road, and as she walked, her heart remained uneasy.
Halfway down the road, a Ferrari pulled up beside her.
She immediately stopped in her tracks, knowing without looking that this was Shen Shihanâs car.
Her twisting hands involuntarily paused; he had caught up to her after all.
The black car window slowly rolled down, revealing the man in the driverâs seat with a stern expression, his face cold and forbidding.
His sharp eyes fixed on the windshield, his dark pupils filled with a chill and wild pride.
When the window was fully down, his tightly pursed lips coldly spat out two words, âGet in.â
The icy voice reached Mo Shuifuâs ears, making her feel as if she were in the dead of winter.
She slowly turned around to face him.
His profile under the sunlight was menacing.
She couldnât refuse him. She opened the passenger door and slowly sat down.
After she buckled her seatbelt, Shen Shihan stepped on the gas pedal and drove forward.
Neither of them spoke, and Mo Shuifuâs heart pounded erratically.
Shen Shihan was silent too, but coldness radiated from him.
A long time passed before Shen Shihan finally moved his lips.
âDid you hear everything?â
Mo Shuifu turned her head, glanced at him, her face somewhat blank.
âWhat?â she asked faintly.
Shen Shihan snorted coldly, not speaking, but the chill in his eyes intensified.
âI didnât hear anything,â Mo Shuifu stated truthfully.
Her intuition grew stronger, certain it wasnât something good. Otherwise, he wouldnât be afraid of her hearing it.
âIs that so?â Shen Shihan asked coldly, scoffing, clearly disbelieving.
âBelieve it or not, I really didnât hear anything.â
âThen why donât you tell me what you did hear?â Shen Shihan countered.
âItâs something about you having a shipment coming in,â Mo Shuifu knew she couldnât hide it.
âAnd then?â
âThen, you donât seem to want Shen Chi to find out,â Mo Shuifu continued.
Shen Shihan snorted again, his tone unfriendly, and coldly said, âGo and tell him then.â
âWhat exactly are you transporting that you canât let Shen Chi know? And why are you being so secretive?â
âWant to know?â
Shen Shihan looked ahead, his eyes revealing a hellish glint.
His tone made Mo Shuifuâs shoulders tremble, and she grasped the seat belt tightly without realizing it.
âAre you going to tell me?â she asked, turning to look at him nervously.
âArms,â Shen Shihan said, his face expressionless.
Mo Shuifuâs eyes widened. Arms? That was illegal.
âShen Shihan, why are you transporting such things? Donât you know thatâs illegal?â
âI know. So what? Are you going to report me to Shen Chi? Go ahead, Iâm not stopping you,â Shen Shihan said with a hostile tone.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
He deliberately added an âagainâ to his words, simply to remind her of what happened five years ago.
Mo Shuifuâs heart trembled, her grip on the seatbelt tightening.
Her mind went blank, and it took her a long time to snap out of it.
She felt as if even the sun in front of her was shaking, a blinding white glare, very harsh on the eyes.
After a long while, she finally spoke.
âYou should turn yourself in.â
âThatâs not going to happen.â
âYouâre harming yourself and others, do you know that?â Mo Shuifu said, her face pale and voice severe.
âUnless you go and snitch to Shen Chi, no one else will know,â Shen Shihan finally turned to glance at Mo Shuifu, his look full of warning.
The blood-red hue spreading in his eyes gave Mo Shuifu chills.
âYou know full well that I wonât,â she said, her voice as cold as frost.
âYou could totally do it. That way, maybe Shen Chi would see you in a different light.â
âWhat do you mean?â Mo Shuifu couldnât help but yell at him.
She was usually calm; it took a lot to anger her. But this man always managed to infuriate her to the point of bursting.
âWhat else could I mean? This is a rare opportunity,â Shen Shihanâs tone was bitter.
Mo Shuifu didnât like to quarrel. As he said that, she immediately turned her head to look out the window, not wanting to deal with him any longer.
It was him who had done wrong, yet somehow, she seemed to be the one at fault.
Mo Shuifu was very angry.
Silence fell in the car, as neither of them spoke.
After a while, Mo Shuifu said faintly, âIf you donât turn yourself in, letâs get a divorce. I donât want to live a life of constant fear with you.â
She knew that her threat had no effect.
In his life, in his heart, she likely held an insignificant place.
Otherwise, he wouldnât have committed illegal acts without considering her future.
Hearing the word âdivorce,â Shen Shihanâs grip on the steering wheel tightened, and the coldness on his face grew more intense.
He braked hard, bringing the car to a stop at the roadside!
Turning his head, two icy gazes bore into her.
âHave you wanted a divorce for a long time?â
Mo Shuifu grew even angrier, faced with his attitude.
âCan you not change the subject, please?â Mo Shuifu said, âI just donât want to live in constant fear.â
âIâve told you, as long as you donât talk, no one will know!â
âAre you treating Shen Chi like a fool?â Mo Shuifu was unyielding.
âYes, in your eyes, heâs like a god, perfect in every way. Weâve been married for two years, when have you ever forgotten about him? Huh?!â Shen Shihan roared, anger bubbling in his eyes.
âWhen will you stop being so unreasonable? Iâve told you many times, Shen Chi belongs to Chaomu, and Iâm married to you.â
âNot content, are you? Then go snatch him back from Xu Chaomu!â
âI donât want to talk to you anymore.â Mo Shuifu was furious.
It was always like this, every argument would raise his doubts, and he would bring up Shen Chi.
It didnât matter that Xu Chaomu had returned; even if he hadnât, she wouldnât think about Shen Chi.
Some people are destined to be admired from afar.
Five years had passed, and her feelings for Shen Chi had long since fadedâ¦
She was no schoolgirl with a crush, lingering on someone. She understood reality well.
Silence once again fell in the car, but this quiet only stoked the fire in Shen Shihanâs heart, burning fiercer than before.
âMo Shuifu, listen. Forget everything you saw and heard today,â Shen Shihan warned her.
Mo Shuifu didnât respond, her eyes fixed on the world outside the window.
This matter was serious, and she would certainly be cautious but it didnât mean she would listen to Shen Shihan.
âDid you hear me?â Shen Shihan demanded coldly.
âOne must face the consequences of their mistakes,â Mo Shuifu replied simply.
âThen from today onwards, youâre not allowed to leave the house!â
