Rahul:"When rohan's marriage was fixed with Shruti, They had 5- 6 months in between their engagement and marriage dates. 2 weeks before the marriage Jiji came to stay with us and..."
Rohan:"And She created such a fuss in my marriage"(He said in anger)
Preeti:"What happened in your wedding bhabhi"
Shruti:"A..actually..I.."(tears filled her eyes. Rohan, who sat next to her, Pulled her into a side hug. She gave a weak smile at Rohan)"Actually...You might not know but me and Rohan ha..had fallen in love and confessed 2 months before our marriage. I had become very comfortable with this family in those months. Well when I met bua ji she...she didn't like me. It felt like she made it her job to find flaws in me and break our marriage. She taunted me for the way I dressed. The way I walked. The way I talked. She hated the fact that I could sit and look up and talk to dad even though he was my father in law. Because in her opinion, girls shouldn't say a word in front of her in laws. Mom and Rohan had warned me about her, but I didn't think she was as difficult as they said she would be. Anyways I had understood 2 things after meeting her. She loved Papa and Rohan, Neil and Sid. But she despised every women in their life. I ignored most of her words and taunts but one...one thing was very difficult to forget."
Rohan:"It happened 1 day before our wedding. On sangeet night, Shruti had a surprise dance for me. It..it was amazing and everyone praised her but..bua.."(He fisted his hands trying to control his anger. Ahana looked to see Neil and Sid along with Rahul looking angered while Angali looked at Shruti with a sad look)
Shruti:"A..after the guest left it was just my..my family and us.. Sh..She said questioned how my..my parents raised me..How could..I dance in front of all men as if...I was ...I was trying to gain attention of other...other...men.. She questioned m.my character in..in front of my family"(Shruti said as tears flowed her eyes while Ahana and Preeti looked at her shocked..ho..how could a woman say that about another woman.)
Ahana who was sitting next to Shruti pulled her to a hug as her own eyes filled with tears. Shruti slowly moved away a few mins later and wiped her tears.
Shruti:"I am sorry .."
Ahana:"No bhabhi..I.. "(Ahana didn't know what to say. Then she heard Neil's speak and everyone turned to him)
Neil:(Looking down at his fingers with his jaw tight)"That day...a huge fight took up. Maa couldn't say anything. Whenever she did, bua would get a chance to hurt her. As for Papa, he was tied by mom's promise and Dadu and dadi's wish to keep bua happy.But Rohan bhai, Me and sid didn't stay quiet that day. Especially Bhai. But if no use, Later we heard her taunt Maa about our behavior. Before we could say anything, mom stopped us."
Sid:"dad stopped talking to her the rest of the stay she was here, which in a way reduced her taunts as she was too busy trying to make dad talk to her."
Rahul:"When she left I Thought things would change now. I mean she apologized for her words. Ofcourse not to Shruti, because even after 10 times of telling her to do so. She apologized saying she is sorry for how we felt for her words not that her words were wrong."
Angali:"After that we didn't meet her for years. Then Neil's marriage was fixed with A..Aarti"(She said looking at Neil conflicted of how he will react with them remembering her but he just gave his mom a small weak smile assuring her he is fine)"Neil and Aarti were married 3 months after they met. We loved her at first sight just like we did with all 3 of you. I remember 3 days before their wedding, Neil as per Aarti's wish proposed to her for marriage. It was her dream, Though they had a arrange marriage, She wanted a proposal which Neil Gave her. It was sweet moments. Everyone was so happy "(She smiled remember that day, but then looked at Ahana with a guilty face)"So..sorry beta...I shouldn't have mentioned it"
Ahana:"No maa, Why are you sorry. Aarti ji was a big part of Neil's past. She is and always will be a family. I would never feel sad or mad if we talk about her. And You consider me as your daughter na then why sorry "
Everyone smiled at Ahana while Neil started at her with some sort of pride and affection. He couldn't believe how Ahana could be like this. Usually people expect their husbands to only love and thing about them. They only love the present person,but Ahana loved him for what he is and what he was in the past. She considered Aarti as her family. It made him admire her more. It made him believe that his decision is right. It made him want to give her everything she deserves. It wanted him to love her.
Angali:(Bringing Neil out of his thoughts as she begin to speak again)"That day bua ji called. She said she wouldn't be able to attend the wedding but she wanted Neil's wife photo. The Wedding happened smoothly, but 2 months after the wedding she came to meet Aarti. We didn't know she would come. Seeing Aarti in a suit, made her angry. She again started her taunts and all. But this time she brought a girl from the village. Apparently she wanted Neil to marry her as Shruti wasn't a girl she liked. But because Neil was already married, She thought maybe she could teach Shruti and Aarti to be like that girl."
Sid:"Every day she would compare Shruti and Aarti bhabhi to her. At one point she even talked about how they should divorce them and marry a village girl. Atleast they would live a happy life. She said she even found a girl for me, but I was only 18 at that time. So dad declined all her offers"
Rahul:"After that we didn't see her for years, Until last year. She came again with a marriage proposal for Neil and Sid. "
Sid:"She...She said that it...it was good that A..aarti bhabhi died."(Ahana gasped as Preeti looked at Sid shocked)"Neil bhai was not in a good state as you both know, so he snapped. Dad had to send her back home. She was also pissed. I think that's the reason she didn't attend mine or Bhai's wedding And thank God she didn't. But now.."
Ahana and Preeti both were stunned at everything they heard. Preeti was a little scared too. Bua ji hated modern girl, but out of Ahana and Shruti bhabhi she was the most modern person.
Angali:"Now she is coming tomorrow. She should be here by morning. Please for this week, you both have to wear Saree. Also in front of her paalu on head is important. I am not restricting you or anything, I just don't want her to say something to you that...that would hurt you. Shruti can explain all the other things. Also Neil, Sid, and Rohan please try and not get so angry. You know she can't change and I also know you 3 are right to be angry, but she is elder and will only stay for a week. Ahana, Preeti and Shruti you too. If any one of you feels uncomfortable doing anything she demand, tell me and I'll...I'll try and sort things out"
Ahana:"No maa it's okay we will do everything "
Preeti:"Yeah..Please don't say that. It's only 1 week. we will manage"
Angali:"Thank you"
Just then Neil's phone rang. It was his secretary informing him of his schedule today. He replied that with a okay and that they will be there shortly.
Neil:"Dad we have to leave. The Mehta's are coming In an hour"
Rahul:"alright"
Rahul kissed Angali's head before leaving as it is his normal routine. Sid and Rohan also kissed their respective partners forehead before kissing their moms cheeks and hugging her as they walked out behind their dad. As for Neil he walked towards his mom and kissed her cheeks as usual and started to leave, not before giving Ahana a small nod as he used to do. Ahana also smiled back before she turned to pick up the plates when Neil paused and turned back.
Ahana:(Seeing him come back)"What happened Neil"
Neil:(Nervously)"I..I forget something "
Ahana:"What? I'll get it"
Neil:"No it's okay I'll get it myself"(Ahana nodded but looked at him wide eyes as he pulled her closer and kissed her forehead muttering a bye before he walked out of the house. Ahana stood there frozen as she realized what happened. A smile came on her lips which soon turned into a blush as she turned to look at others giving her a teasing look.)
Ahana:"Ahh I..."
Angali:"Okay okay..don't tease my daughter. She is turning into a tomato "(Shruti and Preeti laughed as Ahana looked down blush even more )
That day went by fast. Angali and Shruti had warned Ahana and Preeti about everything that could trigger Bua to taunt them. Shruti did mention the fact that even without doing anything they might get taunts so just ignore. The kids had arrived in the afternoon. Ahana told Prabha and Sanjeev about buaji and how she might not be able to meet them this upcoming week. It was a habit of her to meet them 1 a week for sure. They assured her that it's fine.
Next morning came. It was Saturday. It was a holiday for everyone. Bua ji was supposed to arrive around 10 in the morning. Every lady of the house was dressed in a saree today. They cleaned up the house a little because guest was coming home.
Right now everyone was seated in the hall. the kids were playing xbox with Sid and ryan in the hall while the others sat in hall talking and chatting. Rahul and Neil had gone to pick up Bua from the train station. The ladies were worried as well. And why wouldn't they be. Every time bua ji came some incident happened. Ahana and Preeti were sure that this week they would the main target for sure.
Ansh:"Mumma mumma"(He said running towards Ahana)
Ahana:"Yes baby?"
Ansh:"I wanna eat maggi"
Ahana:"not now Ansh. I'll make it in the evening"
Ansh:"But mumma"(he whined)
Ahana:(a little sternly)"Ansh.. you just eat breakfast and in 2 hours it will be lunch time. If you eat maggi now you won't have lunch.(Ansh pouted)"I'll make is in evening okay"
Ansh:"Okay mumma"
Ahana:"good"(she kissed Ansh's cheeks when they heard Neil's car park)
The ladies stood up and wore the paalu over their head. Sid and Rohan stood up while the kids stayed busy in their games. Just then Neil entered with 1 suitcase in his hand and a big bag in other. He asked one of the servants to take it Bua ji's room while Rahul and A lady, whom Ahana assumed to be seema bua entered.
The lady was dressed in a simple dull saree. She didn't have any other accessories on her except few dull color bangles and a chain. She was dressed as a widow would in the past days. She had a very stern expression. Angali headed and bend down and touched her feet as she gave a nasty look and slowly touched her head blessings her. After Angali , Shruti followed who got the same reaction.
Next Ahana moves Forward and takes her blessings followed by Preeti. She guessed she might have gotten the same reaction.
Ahana:"Namaste Bua ji. "
Preeti:"Namaste"
Bua:"These two...Neil and Sid's wife?"(She asked looking at Angali who nodded)
Bua:"Hmm in looks they are beautiful, but beauty isn't everything. Even you and Shruti are beautiful but in reality other then that you have nothing."(She taunted heading inside. She hugged Rohan and Sid who along with the other men heard everything and weren't to happy, but one look from Angali and they faked smile at bua ji)
