BETA XAVIER

“Your baby is a fighter, Beta Costa. No harm has come to the fetus, all its vitals are good,” the doctor said, and only then did I feel like I got my life back. “Miss Amato is unconscious, but she will wake up in a few hours.”

“Does she have any wounds or…” I didn’t finish the sentence because the thought of someone laying a finger on my mate made my blood boil.

“No, I have thoroughly examined her. But she needs plenty of rest,” the doctor advised.

I nodded my head. “Okay, I’ll leave you be, but I’m here for questions if you have any,” she said. I nodded my head, and she left the room.

I walked closer to the bed and bent down to look at Eleanor. I was about to place a kiss on her forehead when the door opened again.

~Did the doctor forget to tell me something?~

I turned around when I saw my dad and mom looking frantic.

“What happened to her?” was the first question my mom asked, and her eyes were focused on Eleanor. She quickly made her way to the bed and looked down at her.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I turned around to see my father standing there. “You better talk to your mother and meet me in my office.”

My heart started to race.

I looked back at my mom to see her lovingly stroking my mate’s hair. There was a tense silence in the room, and I didn’t dare break it.

She finally turned around to face me. Her eyes were clouded with tears. She walked toward me, and she came to a stop right in front of me.

“Mom?”

~Slap!~

I didn’t flinch, but I must say, despite being petite, this woman definitely had power behind her slap.

“Why the hell didn’t you give me a fucking call?”

“Mom, everything happened so fast that I didn’t have time to inform you.”

“I was just a phone call away, Xavier,” she started yelling. “I was visiting a neighboring pack. I would have come back.”

“I know, and I’m sorry about that,” I mumbled, and she remained quiet.

My heart clenched in agony when I saw her emotionless face. I couldn’t stay this way anymore. I could sense that she was still mad at me for the contract and the way I treated Eleanor

“I’m sorry, Mom. I know I messed up big time, but please stop with this torture,” I begged her as I got down on the floor and held her legs.

Her bottom lip trembled, and she placed her hand on my shoulder and pulled me up. “I forgive you because I’ve seen you change, Xavier. You’ve done a lot to make Eleanor smile, and I don’t think I can hold a grudge against you when Eleanor has already forgiven you,” she said, and this made my eyes water.

“I will never do anything stupid again, Mom,” I said as I pulled her into a hug, and she patted my back.

“You probably will, but I’ll still love you, ,” she said, and I nodded my head.

As I pulled back, I saw her already looking at Eleanor. “Why don’t you go now and meet your father while I stay here with Eleanor and my grandchild.”

“How did you know?” I asked her, sounding confused.

“The entire pack knows. News like that doesn’t stay contained, son. Now go on,” she urged me, and I nodded my head and walked out.

I made my way to my parents’ house and then to my father’s office.

~Knock, knock.~

“Come in.”

“Dad.”

“Close the door, and come take a seat, Xavier,” he instructed, and I did as he said.

“Your mom told me about the mating contract,” he began while I didn’t look away.

Yes, I definitely regret it now, but I have learned from my mistakes.

“I think your mother has already given you an apt punishment, so I’m not going to talk about that anymore. But I want to know why you and Samuel let Benjamin stay here before. I thought you told me you guys had banished him from the pack.”

“I’m sorry I lied to you, Dad. But his father sacrificed his life to save Samuel in a war with the rogues a few years ago. Samuel wanted him in this pack. But we didn’t know it would end up like this,” I said.

“What have you planned to do with him now?” Dad asked me.

I looked out the window.

“An eye for an eye,” I said as I got up and left his office.

Eleanor’s kidnapping taught me one important thing: sometimes, a villain will always be a villain.

I made my way to the pack dungeon, and the guards quickly opened the door for me to enter.

“Where are Benjamin and Chantelle?” I asked the warrior who was walking with me.

“They are kept in separate cells adjacent to each other, Beta Costa,” he answered as we came to a stop in front of Benjamin’s cell.

He was tied up to the silver chains, and he looked almost lifeless. As he heard the sound of footsteps, he looked up, and when he saw me, I saw an anger that I’d never seen before.

“This isn’t over, Xavier,” he yelled.

“Well, it’s over for you,” I said.

I mind-linked the warrior to chain Chantelle up in the cell in front of Benjamin. A few minutes later, two warriors dragged a screaming Chantelle and chained her up against the wall.

“Luca!” she kept yelling.

I saw the distress and fear in his eyes.
