Aditya rushed towards Meenakshi, pushing away anyone who stumbled in his path. He broke into the tent in spite of the soldiers guarding the tent preventing him from getting inside. He ran towards her and stopped on the sight of her. Her pale face had even gotten paler and the efforts of the physicians looked futile. They were trying to stimulate her sensory nerves by rubbing his palms and feet, while the other two were feeding her drops of a green colored potion.
Aditya tried to get ahead but he was caught back strongly by his father and the soldiers. Aditya's eyes watered seeing her condition. Aditya looked around to see Chitrama crying in a corner. She was shivering like a leaf in the storm as she tried to compose herself. Her father was standing in a corner, with his head down. Aditya couldn't read his expression. Her mother was standing behind him trying to stop herself from breaking apart. Her brother was with him standing with a stoic expression on his face. Aditya slowly pulled himself out from the deadly grip his men had on him and walked towards Meenakshi. He slowly sat by her side, taking her palm in his hands, he slowly spoke.
"Stay with me. Please." His voice quivered as he spoke but he tried to be brave for her. The fear of losing her was too much for him. He was sure that he wouldn't survive at all if she decided to quit her life. He had made up his mind that he would follow her even in the afterlife and only come back to live on the earth with her. Aditya tried to shut his rational mind that reminded him of his responsibilities and his father. It wasn't fair to leave them behind, but so was life unfair with him. Before he could drift in his thoughts, Vaidh ji placed his palm on his shoulders, jerking him from his thoughts.
"She is not trying to fight with us in trying to resurrect her. She had given up long ago. It's only up to her for coming back to us. We can only let her go in peace. Let her have that freedom Aditya." Aditya shook his head vigorously, denying him.
"She can't leave me. I can't live without her." He helplessly cried. People around them silently shed tears seeing him suffer for her.
The day had ended and the sun had begun to set. Fate seemed to have made plans with destiny. It was her birthday today and she had just turned 21. No one could wish her on her birthday or a blessing to live a long life would never work anymore. No amount of prayers and sacrifices seemed to stop her from slipping away. Her mother wailed seeing her. Her regrets came back in such a full force that nothing seemed to stop her from moving to her daughter and trying to wake her up. Her father stood silently drowning in his own misery. Chitrama was helpless.
As her breathing failed and pulse dropped, they heard a gasp.
