245 The Last Talk
Now, for some unknown reason, YMPA school decided to end early because of some meeting with the directors of the YMPA.
Thatâs ironic.
Nonetheless, that means I could go to Gregâs house earlier. At six instead of eight, I headed to his house, anxious but also exhilarated to find out anything else Mr. Drails, or those other guys from Mexico were doing.
They would probably be defending the Xeno and the Armonk, unless the Xeno is somewhere else in the YMPA grounds.
I walked over to Gregâs house nervously. I knocked on the door, saw Gregâs humongous mom, then rushed up to the living room.
âHey Greg,â I said, catching his attention immediately. He has this sort of way of turning his head, that he whips his head towards the person talking. It goes faster than the frames per second you can even see, if that makes any sense.
âWhatâs good, bro,â Greg said, and we dabbed each other up. Dabbed is such a weird word.
âAlright, so what has happened so far?â I asked Greg. âWell, let me start with this,â he said, almost warning the fact that something completely backwards was about to erupt. âRemember when Fulton said to do nothingâat all?â
âYeah.â
.....
âThat kind of has been twisted a bit, if you could put it that way.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âAfter looking at the footage early and not waiting for you, Fulton found out that there is a meeting that is soon to happen. The question is this: When? When is this going to occur, because if we do know, that means we can intercept it.â
âI thought so,â I said. âSo whoâs doing it?â Greg tilted his head left and right unsurely before he said, âYou. All of us, technically, but you. Youâre the one infiltrating a certain building or center you could call it, which has a drive that holds all the schedules and certain appointments for the YMPA. We donât want to steal, but more to copy it. Fulton will advance in more detail when we go there at six.â
âAre you serious?â I muttered.
âYes.â
âHow come you canât?â
âBecause youâre a YMPA agent!â Greg argued. âI may be a part of the FMA, but you, you are literally in the same agency that Mr. Drails is the CEO of. Come on.â
âI guess,â I said. âBut I want you guys to tell me every single step I have to take. Because I donât want to die because of some assumption.â
âDonât worry, trust!â Greg said with a chuckle. âYouâre all so worked up, like sometimes in this agency, you gotta chill.â
âOlay, just be chill that Iâm committing treason to the agency Iâm in,â I shot back at him, which he seemed to take that hardly.
âWell, now that you put it that way,â Greg muttered, âit kind of sounds worse than I thought it actually was.â
âYeah,â I said, squinting my eyes and nodding with a bit of sarcasm as a topping. âYou donât say.â
âBut think about it, we may be saving the world right now. Imagine all those great men, the ones who created the US to what it is right now. They had to do what was wrong, to do what wasââ
âYeah, yeah, whatever,â I said. âClearly you know your history.â
âYes, and so do you. Iâm sure you know about the great war and the weapons of mass destruction.â
âYeah, I do, but Iâm not really sure that the weapons of mass destruction are still a thing.â
âWhy?â
âBecause Iâm not sure that the US ever really used that term.â
âWhat?â
âItâs just that it seems like the media and the government used that term a lot back then, and Iâm not sure theyâre still using it.â
âOh, I think theyâre still using it.â
âReally?â
âYeah, why wouldnât they?â Greg said. âNonetheless, wanna play a game before Fulton comes? We basically have an hour or so.â

As time passed, the arrival of Fulton was near. Realization hit me square in the face once I heard the growls of Fultonâs train of cars. âHeâs here,â I said.
âYeah, we need to get in the car,â Greg said. âWe have to go now. Itâs an emergency.â
âEmergency?â I asked.
âYep,â Greg said with a nod. âWeâre going to do something illegal, but necessary.â
âIllegal?â I asked, frowning. âWeâre breaking the law?â
âYes, weâre breaking the law,â he said, with a smile. âAnd weâre going to do it anyway.â
âWhat do you mean by that?â
âIâm not really sure, but weâll know once weâre there.â Greg nodded his head, and he was about to make a dash towards the front door. He ran to the front door, and I could only help but hesitantly follow behind him. We got out of the house, as the bodyguards exited and stood in front of their vehicles. We entered the one where we could see Fultonâs face, although it was darkened by the tint of the windows.
âIâm here!â Greg shouted.
âWhatâs up?â I could hear his voice through the glass, but it was too dark to make out his face. We opened the door, and just like that, the bodyguards returned to their vehicles once more, before slamming it shut. We entered the car. âSo, I heard what your new plan was,â I said to him, which he chuckled.
âYes, infiltrate the YMPA Storage Center, the place they usually keep classified files and things,â Fulton said. âYouâre going to steal a drive that contains a schedule of their usual appointments which should include the meetings with the SAF and BMO.â
âWhat if we get caught?â I asked him.
âWe wonât get caught, and weâll be able to sneak in and out,â he said. âWell, you actually.â I sighed and shook my head, and I was already beginning to feel scared and fearful. âWhen are we doing this?â
âTomorrow, because we donât want to waste any more time,â Fulton said. âJust wanted to talk to you about the plan.â
âAlright, but I want you guys to tell me everything. Iâm not sure how this will go, so I want to know every single detail.â
âSure, sure,â he said. âSo, first, you need to go to the YMPA storage center tomorrow. Itâs at the YMPA building, but you guys probably know where that is. Youâll be there at five in the morning, when itâs pretty empty. And thereâs going to be a bunch of security guards, but we have the codes for the system, so it shouldnât be a problem.â
âSo why notââ
âWait, wait,â Fulton said. âLet me get through this, alright?â
âYeah, of course.â
âAlright, so there will be a few cameras in the building. But Iâve gotten into the system, and Iâve changed them all to my own code, so theyâre all fake. After that, youâll find yourself in this long, gray hall that may seem to go like...forever, okay? Walk through the hall, because itâs just an illusion then take the elevator to the right. That will take you down to the basement. There, you will see a big red button, right? Press the button.â
âOkay.â
âAnd then youâll see a door. Donât touch the door, itâll be locked. Just stand next to the door until it opens. Then go through the door. And thatâs it. Simple, right? Youâll be in the storage center. Now, the drive you want is the one with the blue box on it. The blue box. Got it? So, youâll need to get the blue box off the shelf. Youâll notice the box is a bit heavy, so you might want to have a friend help you out. You can just ask Greg for his help. Heâs your friend, right?â
âYes, heâs my friend. Thank you.â
âNo, no, itâs fine. Anyway, once you have the blue box, bring it to the elevator and go back to the lobby. Youâll see a desk. Go past the desk, and there should be a window.â
âOkay, whereâs the part where I get out of there?â I said, moving my head impatiently.
âYeah,â Fulton said with a chuckle. âYouâre free. No, donât get out yet. Once you leave the building, go back to the storage center, and youâll see a couple of boxes in the corner. Take the blue box and put it inside the boxes.â
âWhy?â I asked.
âBecause youâre not done yet. Now, youâll have to take the blue box to the elevator, and press the button. And when you do, youâll see a little screen. Just press enter, and the blue box will open. And then, there will be a window. Get in the window, and it will close. Now, youâre in the basement, but youâre not alone. Youâll see a guy sitting on a chair, reading a newspaper.â
âIs it the guy from before?â
âNo, heâs the janitor. You can just ignore him. Anyway, the janitor is going to look up, and heâs going to say something like âWhat is going on, or something like that,â Fulton said. âJust say, âIâm just here to fix the air conditioning.â Whatever you say, just make it believable.â
âSo I just need to say something, and then Iâm done?â
âYep, after that. Get out into the parking lot, and then weâll fly from Maine back to California, where we are now, and then you should be back by 10 oâ clock,â Fulton said, with this smile that seemed comical. âDonât worry, I know you can do it.â
âOkay, well I hope I donât mess up,â I said, feeling a bit nervous.
âYou wonât because if you do, you wonât be in the YMPA for much longer,â Fulton said. âSo, donât mess up. No pressure, of course.â
âNo pressure, of course.â
âYouâre good at this. I have complete confidence in you. And thatâs why youâre the best choice. Thatâs why I chose you for the job. Because you are good, and I trust you. I want to save the world, but more importantly, your life.â
âOkay, thatâs enough,â I said. âI get it.â
âNo, I need you to understand what Iâm saying. I need you to remember that, and to remember why you were chosen.â
âOkay, I get it. Iâm not dumb. I get that Iâm the only person who could possibly do this.â
âThatâs right,â he said. âYouâre the only one. Only you. Iâm sorry, I didnât mean it like that. I was just explaining it to you.â
âI know.â
âAnd youâre a good kid. I know youâll do a great job.â
âThanks, I appreciate that. Iâll try not to let you down.â
âYou wonât,â he said. âBut if you do, Iâll make sure it doesnât happen again.â
âOkay,â I said, trying to keep a straight face. I almost laughed, because of how weak that sounded, but he does own an organization, so I donât wanna mess this up.
âJust focus on the task at hand,â he said. âYou have a lot to learn, and you still have to grow, but I know you will. I have a feeling youâre going to be the most powerful mage of all time. I can feel it in my bones. So, you just keep being you, and youâll be fine.â
âAlright...â I muttered with a chuckle.
.....
âJust have fun,â he said. âItâs gonna be an exciting adventure, and Iâm glad youâre with us. I know youâll be able to handle it. Ahh, look, weâre arriving at the C.A.M base. Canât wait to show you the drive looks like. Letâs get ready to go.â
âOkay, okay,â I said. âLetâs get this over with.â
âYes, youâre right.â
We arrived at the place, which still looked as mesmerizing as before. I was still in awe that I was actually about to go through with it.
We parked the car and got out, and the bodyguards stood outside, waiting for us to come out. Eventually, I did, and Greg as well. They did their same formation and disperse, and we still went into the lobby, and we got checked by the woman at the front desk, and we still went into the elevator, and we still entered into his office.
And, then, we finally sat down in his office, and I began to wonder if heâd forgotten about the meeting. He didnât seem to be in any hurry. But obviously he remembered by the time he turned on the TV, and instantly a blue box showed up on the screen. It wasnât as blue as I thought it was, but it was definitely blue. It was just a tiny bit larger than a computer drive. It had a weird silver light on the side, and it glowed a bright blue.
âThis is the drive, or the thing holding the driveâexcuse meâthat you need to get,â Fulton said, looking straight at me. âSo, Iâll explain how to use it. But, Iâm not sure how to explain it. Youâll have to use your imagination, and Iâll try to help you.â
âAlright...â I said, a bit worried that I was going to do extra work for listening apparently.
âThe drive is in the blue box, and the box will open up to reveal the drive. Youâll see the drive. Itâs a small black drive in this matter. Now youâre going to need to copy it in this certain way. Youâll have to press the button on the drive. And then, youâll hear a beep, and youâll have to press enter. Then, itâll start copying.â
âOh...â I muttered. âSo itâs like that?â
âYes, itâs like that,â Fulton said with a chuckle. âMake three copies of the drive, and then put it right back. And youâll have to put it in the box with the other two drives, and then put it in the box with the blue box, and then, when youâre done, youâll have to take it to the elevator, and then youâll have to press the button. Then, youâll go through the door, and youâll have to stand next to the door. Donât touch the door. It will be locked. Just stand there until it opens, and youâll go in. Then youâll see the window. Get in the window, and it will close. Youâll be in the basement. But you wonât be alone. There will be a man sitting on a chair, reading a newspaper. Just say whatever you have to say to him, and then youâll be out.â
âYep...the entire plan,â I said. âThe entire plan.â
âThat shouldnât be too hard, and if you get caught, thatâs where this comes in.â
Fulton got out this watch that was black with a red button, which once it came near my hand, it latched on like a snake. âOh,â Greg shrieked, which he flinched backwards and took a few deep breaths. âPress the button and it washes their memory from the past three hours.â
âOh, I see,â I said. âSo, if I get caught, they will forget that they saw me?â
âThatâs right,â he said. âJust push the button and theyâll forget they ever saw you.â
âOkay,â I said. âThat sounds like a good plan. Iâll remember to do that.â
âNow, I need you to be careful. Because things can happen, and it can be very, very dangerous,â Fulton said, looking at me and taking a deep sigh. âBut I know youâre going to do a good job.â
I felt a bit nervous and I tried my best not to act weird about it. I didnât want Fulton to think that Iâm a total moron whoâs gonna get him killed by doing something stupid. I donât want anyone to get hurt because of me. I donât want to kill anybody. I donât want to kill myself.
âI understand,â I said. âDonât worry, Iâll be very careful. I promise.â
âGood,â Fulton said. âBecause I want you to be able to save the world. I want you to be able to save everyoneâs lives. And I donât want you to die. So, just be careful.â
âAlright,â I said, taking a deep breath.
