*Hazel's Pov*
Today, I was doing this alone. I didn't invite the girls over to help me for my double date. I was getting ready on my own..... which proved to be a bit difficult.
I couldn't decide between an oversized pink sweatshirt with a dark green plaid tennis skirt or a yellow oversized shirt tucked into high-waisted shorts. Considering it was a date, I decided to go with the first option. It was cuter.
I paired the outfit with my high top converse. I brushed my hair and left it down. For my makeup, I decided to be simple and just curl my eyelashes and wear some clear lipgloss.
My phone buzzed beside me and I picked it up to find a text from Caleb.
Caleb: I'm outside, princess <3
I cringed a bit at seeing the nickname that Asher used to call me. But Caleb was like my boyfriend type of thing now, so it should be fine! Why should I care about what Asher used to do?
Hazel: I'm on my way :)
I grabbed my white bag with all my things and made my way downstairs. I opened the door to find him leaning leisurely against the doorframe.
"Hey." I smiled at him as he took my hand and led me out the door, closing it behind me.
"Hellooo." He walked the short distance of Asher's house with me and we knocked on the door. As we waited for a few seconds, I took the time to notice Caleb.
He was wearing a black T-shirt with light jeans and vans. His hair was a mess, but one of those cute messes that take time to perfect.
Caleb caught me looking and smirked. "Did no one ever tell you it's impolite to stare, sweetie?" It sounded like something Asher would say.
I blushed and looked at him. "I wasn't staring!"
"You're so cute when you're flustered." Caleb patted my head.
The door opened and we found Asher staring back at us. "Hey, guys. You're here." He said in a strained voice and wore a pained smile. Was he okay??
He let us in and we walked over to where Sheyla was sitting on the floor. She glared at me but I tried my best to ignore it. Besides, I should've been the mad one! She bullied my friend!! And Asher was dating her. I thought he was on our side of that whole ordeal, but apparently not.
I sat down and pulled my legs to my right side. Caleb sat next to me and put his arm around my shoulder.
Asher sat next to Sheyla and did the same. I tried my best not to barf at the sight of those two. For some reason I felt a spark of something weird, but immediately dismissed it.
"So, let's get to it." Asher said as he gestured to the bins of alcohol and beer by his side. I gulped at the sight of it all. Truth be told, I never drank and I didn't want to start now.
Immediately, Sheyla dug through the bins and pulled out a bottle of wine. She popped off the top and took a swig. Next was Asher. He pulled a bottle of beer out and flipped it in his hand before taking a sip . Caleb pulled a bottle of beer identical to Asher's out and started drinking it.
I sat there uncomfortably as they all drank. It seemed like they could all hold their alcohol pretty well. I doubted I could do the same.
Caleb noticed I wasn't reaching for anything and looked at me in confusion. "Hazel, aren't you gonna get anything?"
I shook my head and smiled. "No, I don't really drink."
"Come on! There are so many options. You should take advantage of it while you have the chance!" Caleb tried to persuade me.
"She probably just doesn't like drinking. I bet you she can't even hold her alcohol. I mean, of course she wouldn't be able to, look at her." Sheyla smiled wickedly with a nasty look in her eyes.
This boiled my blood. I wouldn't be talked about that way by her. So I reached into the bin, looking at Sheyla the whole time. I pulled out a random bottle, considering I didn't know anything about alcohol, and took a long chug.
Immediately, a strong, bitter, sour taste filled my mouth. It burned so bad. I started coughing and clutched my throat.
"You just drank like a few shots of tequila! That's a lot of alcohol!" Caleb exclaimed with wide eyes. I realized all of them were looking at me as if I were an alien.
"I-I'm f-fine!" I squeaked as I kept my hands on my burning throat.
"Told you she couldn't hold it." Sheyla smirked.
Even though I already knew how horrible that alcohol was, this made me mad. So I took another long chug.
Everything after that was a big blur.
*Asher's Pov*
Hazel took another chug of the tequila and I grew even more worried. I could tell Hazel had never drank before that.
Hazel quickly got really drunk. "Hey, guysss... Let's dance!" Hazel stood up with the bottle in her hand. Unfortunately, she stood up too fast and nearly fell over. I almost tried to help, but Caleb got up faster and caught her.
I wanted to barf at the sight of her in his arms.
Hazel looked up at Caleb and giggled. "Your hair...looks....kinda...cute..."
Ughh! It was so annoying seeing them together! I don't know why but it just made me want to pluck out my eyeballs.
Caleb helped Hazel sit back down on the floor. Except instead of putting her next to him, he put her on his lap. Fucking hell. I could practically feel steam come out of my ears!
I didn't notice that my knuckles were turning white from clenching them. I did notice when Sheyla put her hand on top of mine. "Relax. You look so tense." I skipped a breath when Sheyla kissed me on my cheek and lingered for a bit.
It wasn't that it made me feel head over heels or anything, I was just surprised. I guess I forgot that we were dating which meant we'd do things like that.
"Ooh! Let's be cute like them!" Hazel squealed putting her arms around Caleb's neck from her spot on his lap and planting a kiss on his cheek. He looked surprised at first but then his mouth went into a full smirk.
I tensed up and clenched my jaw when I saw Hazel kissing another guy's cheek. What really ticked me off, though? When Caleb put his hand up Hazel's thigh, lifting up her skirt, and kissed her on the lips. She blushed intensely and kissed back. She was probably too drunk to comprehend what was happening! I caught myself snarling as it happened.
I stood up suddenly and everyone's eyes went on me. I gulped, not really knowing how to explain my sudden action.
"What's wrong, Babe?" Sheyla asked as she stood up next to me.
"Um... I just wanted to.... show Hazel where the bathroom is. Looks like she might throw up anytime soon." I mean, anyone would've if they had to be sitting on Caleb's lap and get kissed by him.
"But she looks fine." Sheyla said as I grabbed Hazel's wrist and pulled her off of Caleb, dragging her up the stairs.
Hazel struggled against my hand on her wrist. "Asherrrr... I'm fineee... Let gooo of meee!" Her words were slurred.
Once we got to the top of the stairs, I led Hazel to my room and closed the door. I let go of her hand and she broke into her fits.
"Asherr! Leave me aloneeee! What doooo youu want??" She balled up her fists by her sides and yelled up at me. If I wasn't so frustrated, I'd have found it adorable.
I pinned her against the wall to get her to calm down and she stopped talking very quickly.
I leaned in close and looked into her eyes. I stopped about two inches from her face when I realized I didn't have a plan on what to say to her.
She was looking up at me with her big honey brown eyes and god fucking dammit, I couldn't handle her cuteness. I put my hands on her cheeks and caressed her face. When I did, her breath hitched.
I threw my head back with my hands still on her face and sighed. "Hazel."
"W-what?" She croaked out.
I looked down. "Look, I care about you. You're very important to me because you're my....friend. So it really pisses me off to see that dude taking advantage of you!"
She tilted her head in confusion. "Heee wasn't taking advan-advantage of meeee.... He'ssss myyy boyfriend type thingggg..."
I clenched my jaw and chewed on my inner lip. "Maybe he is. But that doesn't mean he can just go up into your skirt like that and kiss you when you're drunk!"
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't knowww that wassss baddd." She let her face go limp into my hands.
I sighed. "It's okay. It's not your fault. I just don't like him treating you like that. Now, besides that, we have another thing to address."
She looked up at me. "What'ssss that??"
"You and I kissed. It happened. After that, why did we start avoiding each other?" I had been wanting to address this for so long and found it was easier to do when Hazel was drunk.
"I don't knowww. Youuuu regretted itttt and that was myyyy first kissss. I wassss scaredddd to talk tooo youuuu about it." She sighed deeply and hiccupped.
"I-I didn't actually regret kissing you. It took a lot of courage to do it. On the spot, I just freaked out and said I regretted it." It was relieving to get this all off of my chest to Hazel. I looked up at the ceiling and got carried away in my ramble.
"Listen, I think I might have feelings for you. The thing is, I'm not sure what type of feelings. I just know that I get jealous when Caleb does something with you and I want to help and protect you all the time. I love seeing you every chance that I get. I felt more holding your hand than I did in any one night stand. I just- I think.... I might like you? I don't know. This is so different for me. The feelings you give me are different from any feeling I've felt before. I know how cliche that sounds, but I would seriously go around being a player. I never stayed with a girl for long. But I don't want that to be the case for us. I mean, if you were to like me back. First I gotta figure out my feelings....Hazel?"
I looked back down to find Hazel asleep against the wall with her face still in my hands. I sighed. I just poured my heart out which I never do, and she didn't even get to hear it. Well at least I saved myself from the embarrassment.
I took my hands off of Hazel's face and before she fell, I scooped her up in my arms. I carried her over to my bed and took out some pajamas she could wear. Don't worry, my eyes were closed the whole time. Just imagine sleeping in a tennis skirt and sweatshirt... Yeah, I did her a favor.
I remembered that we had guests downstairs and was down in a shot. I didn't see Sheyla or Caleb anywhere. Then, I found a note taped to the bottle Hazel drank from. I picked it up and unfolded it.
Asher and Hazel,
After some time, we realized you two weren't coming back down. I guess you two are having a lot of "fun" up there, huh? Well, Caleb and I started talking and we kinda realized how cute the other was. We left and we're going back to my place to have some fun of our own. Sorry you guys, we're breaking up with you two. We can clearly see your attraction for each other. See you at school on Monday! Byeeee!!!
Love,
Sheyla + input from Caleb
Huh... I guess they left us for each other. Perfectly fine by me. I went back upstairs to my room and tucked Hazel in. I took off her glasses and her shoes. I tried my best to make a ponytail on her, and I guess it was decent.... I turned off the light and as I was gonna make my way to the guest room, Hazel spoke.
"Asher?" She croaked out.
I walked to her bedside and kneeled down.
"Asher, can you stay here with me?" She pleaded.
"Uhh, Hazel. You're intoxicated and I don't know if you really want me to sleep in the same bed as you." I scrunched my eyebrows.
"Please. I'm scared." She pulled the cover above her chin.
"Of what?" I looked at her in confusion.
"It's so dark and I'll be all alone." She pulled the cover so that only her eyes were peeking out.
I knew she'd slept in the dark before, but I never knew she was scared of it. I guess she' was only admitting it cause she was drunk.
"Okay, fine." I put on some gray sweatpants and took off my shirt.
I slipped under the covers and flopped down on the bed. I found myself face to face with Hazel. She was staring at my shirtless figure.
I smirked. "Did no one ever tell you it's impolite to stare, sweetie?"
Hazel frowned and looked down. My eyes flashed with concern. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"That's what Caleb said to me earlier today." I wanted to ask why she was staring at Caleb, but decided against it. I sighed and put my hand on her cheek for comfort.
"You don't have to worry about him anymore." I informed her.
"Wait, what do you mean?" She looked at me in confusion.
I guess now was time to break the news to her. "Sheyla and Caleb left us for each other. They broke up with us to be together."
She looked down and her voice got small. "Oh."
I pulled her into a hug in an effort to make her feel better and her breath hitched. I realized that I was hugging her shirtless, but that didn't bother me at the time. Pretty soon, she hugged back tightly. She lied on my chest and her head was resting in the crook of my neck. In the moment, I was happy. Very happy.
"Goodnight, Princess." I whispered into her hair.
"Goodnight, Muffin." I smiled when I remembered her little nickname for me. Soon, we fell asleep in each other's arms...
