Chapter 20* A drink Tessa was in the kitchen when Harry entered and stood too close to her, startling her. She jumped and dropped the pot she was holding before placing her hand on the left side of her chest.
âGod, Harry, you gave me a scare.â She said as she bent over to pick up the pot.
It was because he was silent when he walked in and went to stand behind her from nowhere. Suddenly having someone behind her made her heart jump and she freaked out.
Harry stepped back, he ran a hand through his hair sheepishly whole apologising. âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to startle you.â
âItâs ok,â Tessa responded and returned to what she was doing. âWhy are you here?â
She didnât remember inviting him over. Just showing up at her place unannounced was awkward.
Harry frowned but Tessa didnât see his expression. âIs she asking because she didnât want me to see that she had let Aaron into her house?â
âI came to see you so that you can accompany me tonight,â he proposed.
âOh, where do you want to go? You know I donât leave the house at night unless itâs necessary.â
âItâs my birthday today, Tessa. Or have you forgotten? I always remember yours.â
Tessaâs eyes widened and guilt crept into her. She whipped her head around to look at him, saying, âIâm so sorry. I was just overwhelmed with everything. Aaron got the kids without my permission and I had to go to his office to take them back. The day has been stressful. Happy birthday, Harry.â
When he heard this, Harry finally understood how Aaron found himself at Tessaâs house. He breathed out in relief knowing she still didnât want him.
âDo you want me to do something about him? I can call the police and have them chase him away,â he offered.
Tessa shook her head. âItâs alright. Heâs the kidsâ father after all. Let them bond. Besides, Aaron practically owns this City. Who would be brave enough to arrest him?â
Harry clenched his hands into fists. A menacing look flashed through his eyes as hatred brewed within him.
Those kids! All they wanted was their real father. Whatâs so good about him?!
He was angry but his face still had a bright smile as he talked to Tessa.
âHow about you accompany me for a drink tonight? Itâs my birthday and I donât want to be alone.â Tessa furrowed her brows. She wiped her hands with the handtowel and turned around to look at him. âShouldnât you have dinner for your birthday or something? Why would you go clubbing during the week?â âIâve just been stressed lately. Please, Tessa. Youâre the only one who can make me feel better.â
Tessa sighed. She felt bad and decided to accompany him. âItâs only a drink.â
1/5 Chapter âFine. But we wonât stay out late. Willa cries for me in the middle of the night.â
Harry smiled and began to help her set the table.
During the process of the dinner, Tessa allowed Aaron to stay with the kids and told him she was going out with Harry.
Harry smirked at Aaron whose jaw clenched so hard it looked like it was about to snap. He was clearly enjoying Aaronâs predicament. He may have found his way back into Tessaâs life through the kids, but the one she will be spending time with was him.
Anger bubbled up within Aaron and he glanced at Tessa, requesting, âCan I speak to you after dinner? Itâs important.â
Tessa raised an eyebrow. âUnless itâs about the kids, I donât want to discuss anything with you right now.â
âItâs about the kids and their safety,â Aaron said through gritted teeth.
Tessa wanted to refuse. However, she recalled how her mother told her he has a right to be there for the kids and relented.
âFine. We can talk in the kidsâ room.â
Dinner was over a little later and Tessa led Aaron to the kidsâ bedroom and then she crossed her arms across her chest and stared at him defiantly.
âSpeak. Iâm listening.â
âWhoâs Harry to you?â
Tessa scoffed. âMr Wentworth, is this about the kids?â
âYes. Do you even know who he is or do you just blindly trust people?â
Anger surged within Tessa when he said that. After all, she had trusted him blindly before, only to find that she was not the one he loved.
âWhat is your point, Mr Wentworth?â She spat.
âMy point is. Harry is Serenaâs sister. Do you know that?â
Tessa felt a ringing sound in her ear. âDid he already know who I was when he approached me at the hospital?â
She began to suspect Harry but then she shook her head. If he was a bad man he wouldnât have offered to help her mother get treatment.
âHe must have not known that my kids are related to you,â she mumbled.
âAre you serious? Two of the kids look so much like me. How could he not put two and two together? Or are you actually in love with him that youâre willing to be deceived by him?â
Tessa became livid at his words as she responded curtly. âEven if Iâm in love with him. How is it your. business?â
Aaronâs heart clenched in pain. Tessa had heard how Harry deceived her and she was still willing to be with Chapter 20 A drink him. Was she really into him?
âHe lied to you, Tessa.â
âWell, at least he didnât try to make me a substitute for another woman.â
Aaron felt like he had been stabbed in the heart with a sharp object. Had he really lost? Would Tessa never be his again? How was he supposed to go on from now on?
âIf thereâs nothing more, please excuse me. I need to change.â Tessa said.
Aaron left the room looking like he had lost all his wealth. His children saw him and rushed towards him.
âDaddy, whatâs wrong? Why are you sad?â Reagan asked his father.
Aaron quickly composed himself and smiled at him, ruffling his hair.
âIâm just sad that I wonât be staying here with you.â
âThatâs simple. Just tell Mommy that you will be sleeping in our room. She will agree!â
Aaronâs eyes lit up when he heard this. A few seconds ago he had felt lost but now, because of his son, his fighting spirit was restored.
He would only give up on Tessa over his dead body.
Looking at his son, he bent over and whispered something in his ear.
Reagan smiled mischievously. âCount me in!â
The father and son laughed while Harry glared at them from the side. He didnât care though. It was a good thing that Aaron was bonding with his kids. It meant it wouldnât be hard to get rid of them when Tessa becomes his wife.
Aaron sat on a couch and began to play with the three kids. They were showing him their books and what they had learnt in kindergarten so far.
âOh, Willa, did you draw this?â
âYes, Daddy. Itâs our family.â
âThis is good, Willa. Well done!â
âNia, I can see that youâre good at colouring. None of the paintings have gone out of the lines. Well done!â âReagan, my son!
This is wonderful. You painted the garden perfectly. Well done!â
The kids were giggling with huge grins on their faces after being praised by their father. This was the scene that Tessa saw when she returned from changing her clothes.
Her heart felt warm and guilt crept into her. So this was what she had been depriving her kids of? Aaron was a good father. He might be a bad partner but he was a considerate father. So attentive and loving.
She was busy admiring the interaction between father and children when Harryâs voice brought her back to the present.
âAre you ready to go? I must say you look ravishing.â
Aaron heard his words and raised his head to look at Tessa. His throat became dry as he drank her in.
She was in a tiny black dress that left nothing to the imagination. It hugged her figure perfectly. Her creamy thighs were left in the open and the dress had a plunging neckline, exposing a tiny part of her cleavage. She had curled her hair and let it flow down to one side of her shoulder. She applied red lipstick on her lips and did a smokey eye makeup.
âWow! Mommy, you look nice!â Willa chirped.
âYou look pretty, Mommy!â Nia added with a smile on her face.
Reagan looked at his father and said in an exaggerated tone. âWow! Mommy is beautiful! Isnât Mommy beautiful Daddy?â
Aaron who was lost for words gulped and replied in a daze. âShe sure is.â
âTell her, Daddy. Tell Mommy sheâs beautiful-â
âReagan!â Tessa scolded her son.
Aaron glanced at her. âHeâs right. I should tell you. You look beautiful, Tessa. So dazzling that for a moment there, you left me speechless. Youâre breathtaking.â
Tessaâs face flushed and she hurriedly walked towards the door. âMr Wentworth, you should leave the moment you put the children to sleep. Bye, my babies, Iâll see you tomorrow!â
âBye, Mommy! Donât worry about us, Daddy is here!â
Aaronâs jaw ticked when Harry threw a triumphant look at him and placed a hand on the small of Tessaâs back, leading her out.
Anger and jealousy flared through Aaron. He never even knew he was capable of feeling this kind of jealousy.
Tessa looked so sexy and he hated that the fucker, Harry, was the one with her.
Taking out his phone, he texted his assistant who was waiting outside in the parking lot.
[Follow those two and tell me where they are going.]
Reagan looked at his father and frowned disapprovingly.
âDaddy, do you want to be our daddy or not?â
âOf course, I want to be your daddy. I am your daddy.â
âThen why didnât you go with Mommy just now?â
Aaron smiled and ruffled his hair.
âIâll follow them soon. I just want to put you to sleep and then Iâll go after your Mommy. Iâll never let someone else become your daddy, I promise.â
Reagan smiled from ear to ear when he heard this.
âThen we should go and sleep right now,â he suggested.
Aaron carried Willa and Nia to the bedroom while Reagan followed closely. He tucked them in and read them stories but since they were excited that their father read them stories for the first time, it took a long time for them to fall asleep.
An hour later, Aaron breathed out in relief when the little ones finally slept off. He took out his phone and read the text from his assistant.
Enock: [They are at Marlinâs club, Sir.]
Aaron clenched his hands into fists. He was sure Harry was up to something and it was his job to protect Tessa and the children from him.
He tiptoed out of his childrenâs room and left the house. He then dialled some numbers and made a conference call.
âThe CEO himself. Whatâs up, Aaron?â Tony answered while Victor listened.
Grahamâs line went unanswered since he was on duty at the military base.
âDo you guys want to go out for a drink? Itâs on me.â Aaron offered.
âReally? This is a rare chance to spend the mighty CEOâs money. Count me in. Send me the address,â Tony replied.
âYeah, me too. Iâm stressed anyway.â Victor added.
Aaron cut the call and sent a group message. He clenched his hand around his phone and then he dialled his assistantâs line.
âHello, Sir.â
âInvestigate what Harry was up to the past five years.â
There was a menacing look in Aaronâs eyes when he cut the call. He was sure Harryâs presence in Tessaâs life wasnât a coincidence.
If he finds out that Harry had a hand in helping her leave, he will show him exactly whoâs the boss of Ashford City.
