Chapter 3: Being Blessed Can Also Be A Sin
I woke up with a massive headache.
Opening my eyes sleepily and stretching in bed, I messed up the sheets accordingly. I looked up at the white ceiling in a daze and the ache in my muscles didn't resonate until I decided to sit up. I removed the comforter from off my body and hopped off of the large bed. A yawn left me while walking to my closeâwait a minute.
This wasn't my room.
The panic which set in at that realization was next to none. My feet padded across the carpeted floor as I made my way to the first door that I saw. When my hand turned around the knob, I was caught by surprise with the opposing force. Somebody had opened the door the same time I did, causing me to stumble backwards. Before I could fall onto the floor though, a strong arm wrapped itself around my waist and pulled me to a damp figure.
I looked up wide eyed to see Mr. Handsome dressed in nothing but a white towel that hung loosely around his waist. It looked dangerously close to falling off and the outlines of his prominent abs and happy trial had my imagination running wild.
My hand had flown to his bare chest in shock and I could feel the moisture on the surface. I swallowed harshly as his brown hair caused water droplets to fall onto the area, making the sight even more tempting.
His eyes had me frozen into place.
Looking just as nervous as I was, he glanced down between us and asked, "Aren't you going to let go of me?"
I noticed that his grip on my waist has loosened considerably, giving me the freedom to move but my arm was still locked around his neck.
"Oh my God!" I squeaked while removing myself from him. "I didn't mean to-"
My words were cut short as I slipped on the excess water that made its way to the floor.
He tried to catch me again, but this time I was already plummeting to the ground...taking his towel along with me.
There was no doubt about it.
The image presented before me would forever remain ingrained in my memory.
The man was blessed.
Way too blessed.
"IâOh god."
It was like my eyes were glued to the spot between his legs. I couldn't look away no matter how inappropriate I knew it was.
Could you blame me though?
I had never seen a man so fully equipped.
God really favoured this one.
He had to spend a little extra time while making him. First it was his heavenly appearance, with sharp and gentle features where they ought to be, perfectly complimentary to his fit body. Now underneath all of that, he was just as remarkable.
How was this fair to the rest of mankind?
Much to my disappointment, he swiftly drew for the towel on the floor and wrapped it around his waist again. I watched as he pushed the item down at the edges so that it was more secured.
"You're awake." He noted almost innocently as he decided not to speak about our mishap from a moment ago.
Brushing my wild hair out of my face, I sat there, still stunned at what had just happened. I wished to speak intelligently but nothing would come out.
Shocker.
After taking a few deep breaths, I was able to push myself up off the floor. My head reached the top of his chest as I staggered a little from a wave of nausea.
"Be careful!" He exclaimed gently as he directed me back to the huge bed.
I sat on the edge instead of laying down like he wanted me to. He was still a stranger. Who knows what he could do to me. Just because he saved me from that predator from before doesn't mean-
"That asshole," I hissed, my neck snapping in his direction. "Where is he?"
He looked at me blankly.
"The guy who tried to freaking murder me in the alleyway! Where did he go?"
Tugging at the roots of his hair, he released a frustrated sigh. The look in his eyes had darkened and those silver orbs turned into grey slates. It was terrifying at how worked up he appeared to be.
"He's gone." He answered simply.
Something told me his response had a little more depth than he let on. He eyed me keenly as I took in every word he said.
"Gone as in he's now in a jail cell, or gone as in...dead?"
I didn't know what gave me the guts to ask such a morbid question. His lack of response was even more frightening than the possibility of that man's demise.
"You killed him?" I whispered.
His lips set into a straight line.
"Kill is a harsh term for a creature like him."
My heart stopped beating.
"Oh my god..."
My feet were on the floor within seconds as I fearfully eyed the man before me. I tried to estimate how far away the exit was from me as I spotted another door to the right. However, he was watching me like a hawk.
"You need to calm down."
The nerve of him!
"Calm down? Calm down? Don't tell me to calm down when you've just told me that you killed somebody! A human being. No different from you! Who gives you the right to say whose life is worth it and whose isn't?"
What shocked me the most was his reaction to my words.
The man rolled his eyes.
Rolled his damn eyes as if I was patronizing him or being some kind of drama queen.
He sighed as I continued to stare at him baffled, my pupils shaking at his nonchalance of murdering someone.
What the hell had I gotten myself into?
"First of all, he's not even a human being."
My mouth fell open. "What?"
"Second of all," he continued without answering me, "I didn't kill him. I just sent him back to where he belongs."
"And where is that?"
His eyes darkened.
"Hell."
I pointed a finger at him as I released a humorless chuckle.
"Don't. Don't patronize me. Because this isn't funny at all."
His grey eyes melted into a warm silver as he took a step towards me, tentatively taking my hand. "I would never lie to you. And even if I wanted to, it's not in my nature to do so."
"All men lie."
"Back to hating the whole male population? That's an old habit of yours that I thought you've already disposed of Isabelle."
I ripped my hand out of his which had the thumb rubbing at the base of mine lovingly.
"How do you know my name?" My eyes narrowed in suspicion as the man gazed at my hand longingly before putting his guard back up.
I was pretty sure that there hadn't been a scenario in which I had ever told him my name.
If it wasn't because of that crazy guy from the alley I wouldn't even know his either.
"Isabelle. It's a variation of Isabel, meaning 'devoted to God' in Hebrew. It's an admirable name indeed."
"I didn't ask you that." I stated pointedly.
The man placed his hands on my shoulders and forced me to sit back down on the bed. Before I could rise up once again, he was kneeling before me with the most vulnerable expression on his face.
From his beautifully unique eyes to his lips which had a beauty mark above it, everything about him seemed so familiar yet foreign. I felt so conflicted on how to react to this man's approaches because one side of me felt comfortable around him, as if he was an old friend, but the other screamed at me to run for the hills. I had no idea which one to listen to.
Though I was sure to get some answers soon as the gorgeous being stooped below captured me in the softest gaze.
"If I told you that we've met before, would you believe me?"

I mean, I could always check.
