Derrick, I want a divorce!â I said, my voice trembling.
Derrick stared at me silently, then smirked.
âYou have no one in this world, Sarah. What you do without me? Just because you got a job, now you want a divorce? Your salary might not even cover your and Gillianâs needs.â Derrick spoke, his smile mocking.
âLet it go, Sarah. If Derrick wants to have Kendall, let him. Whatâs important is that he doesnât divorce you. You can still live here.â Ruth chimed in.
âIâd rather walk through the flames of hell than share a house with that bitch!â I snapped then went back to my room.
This morning, I didnât prepare Derrickâs needs like I usually did. My heart was already broken. My decision was firm; I wanted a divorce. There was nothing left worth fighting for here.
I quietly packed some of Gillianâs clothes and school supplies into a suitcase, along with some of mine.
âSarah! Where are my clothes and pants?
âSarah!â
Derrick yelled from his room while I was in Gillianâs room.
âFind them yourself. Or ask your mistress to prepare them.â I approached him, folding my arms across my chest.
âIâm still your husband!â he yelled again, his eyes bulging.
It seemed that Derrick had finally exploded. Good. In that case, he would agree to the divorce eventually.
âWhat kind of husband are you, Derrick? A depraved husband like you doesnât deserve respect! Iâd rather not have a husband than be constantly hurt. Iâm exhausted. Iâm fucking done!â I shouted back.
âYou ungrateful bitch!â Derrick growled Chejowy t âYouâve never been satisfied in this marriage Do you want to suffer out there? You should be grateful Iâm not divorcing you,â Derrick said, full of emotion.
âWhich wife will be grateful when her husband is cheating?â I retorted.
Derrick struggled to find his work clothes. He almost completely ransacked the closet.
I watched him, leaning against the wall. In my heart, I laughed. He deserved it. Ever since we got married, I had never once neglected him. I always took care of him. I had endured living with his familyâs insults and scorn. But in the end, I was betrayed.
âDerrick! Can I go to the office with you â Lorraineâs voice rang Derrick didnât answer. He was too busy looking for his socks and handkerchief. He still looked very annoyed.
I left the room. Ruth and Lorraine seemed to be having a serious conversation in Ruthâs room. Maybe they were discussing what happened before dawn.
âForgive Derrick, Kendall. Maybe he lost control seeing how pretty you are,â I heard Ruthâs voice from inside the room.
Oh my God, Kendall was in the room too. They were talking together.
I couldnât believe their way of thinking. It was clear that I was the one who was hurt here. But why did Ruth apologize to Kendall? Earlier this morning, Kendall seemed very pleased with herself after being with Derrick.
Sofia just got back from taking Gillian to the school pickup point.
âShh⦠Sofia, come here,â I called.
âYes, Miss.â
âGo home and get some clothes. Later youâll come stay with me at the apartment,â I whispered to her.
âDonât worry. The apartment isnât far. Itâs the one across from the mall on the main road.â
âAlright, Miss.â
2/4 I had already told Carrie not to sell the apartment unit, considering its proximity to Gillianâs school.
âSarah, whereâs our breakfast?â Once again, Lorraine was yelling.
The four heartless people were already sitting neatly at the empty dining table.
Sarah â
Sofia!!!â
âWhy do you have to yell?â I finally approached them.
âHey, whereâs breakfast? Iâm hungry!â Lorraine snapped.
âHungry, you say? Go cook for yourself!â I retorted.
Lorraine glared at me.
âWhereâs Sofia â Ruth asked.
âI sent her home,â I replied.
âWhy did you send her home? Her work isnât done yet. Whatâs wrong with you?â Ruth asked angrily.
âSofia works for me, Mom. Iâm the one paying her. So I can do what I want,â I replied firmly.
I was not sorry. My respect for Ruth disappeared this morning after how she had reacted.
âYouâre getting more disrespectful!â Derrick stood up and yelled at me.
âWhy donât you just divorce this woman, Derrick?â Kendall chimed in.
âYeah, Derrick. Just divorce her. Sheâs so bloody rude,â Lorraine added.
Derrick was silent. I knew he was hesitant to divorce me, probably because of Gillian.
âWhy are you silent, Derrick?â I asked.
Shamelessly, Kendall squeezed Derrickâs hand, as if to give him strength.
3/4 âGet out of here! Sarah Joy Johnson, from today onward, you are no longer my wife,â Derrick said, his voice trembling.
I was stunned by the words that came out of the mouth of the man who had once promised to protect me for life.
The words I had been waiting for had finally come out of his mouth. But still, it hurt deeply.
I held back my tears with all my strength. I was strong after all. They could not longer treat me like this.
I saw a satisfied smile on Kendallâs and Lorraineâs faces.
But Ruth looked uneasy. âDonât take my grandchild.â Her voice was hoarse.
âYes, Gillian is still your grandchild. But as her mother, I wonât let my child be raised by these two traitors.â I pointed at the two people holding hands in front of me.
âIâm sorry, Mom. Iâm leaving,â I whispered, I walked to Gillianâs room. I quickly gathered everything I had prepared.
I didnât bring much. Only what I thought was essential.
I had already informed Sofia to wait for me in front of the house.
âSarahâ¦â Derrick approached me in Gillianâs room.
âWhere are you taking Gillian? Where will you stay?â His voice softened.
âDonât worry, Derrick. I promise Gillian wonât suffer with me. Sheâs all I have now,â I replied.
âDerrick, letâs go. Itâs getting late.â Kendall came to Derrick in Gillianâs room. That woman was really so shameless.
She pulled Derrickâs hand and led him out of the room.
