A/N: I think the plot was better the story I've written. Good thing I never submitted this to GMMTV. Although, I'm sure their writers could have done a better job than me. Anyways, good thing I was an international writer and couldn't submit.
Fourth slowly woke and became aware of Gemini asleep beside him. Slowly, he turned to face Gemini, and reaching out, gently stroked Gemini's hair away from his eyes. At this, Gemini slowly opened his eyes to stare at Fourth.
"I'm sorry." Was the first thing Gemini said.
"It's okay. You're save now, right!" Fourth asked.
"Mmmm. Both my grandfather and I are." Gemini replied. "Thank's to you."
Fourth pulled himself up and Gemini followed.
"I didn't do anything. I couldn't even save you." Fourth said.
"But you did save me. If you hadn't got me to the corridor, Ken wouldn't have found me and if I'd remained unnoticed for another twenty-four hours without treatment, I would have died." Gemini told him.
Fourth grabbed Gemini's hand, holding it tight, as tears began to well in his eyes again. "I didn't realise."
Gemini caressed Fourth's cheek and said, "You also had the cookies. That was why you could never be told. Why I could never approach you."
"But the cookies were previously in my possession." Fourth recalled the time Paul had taken them from his room.
"Ken never noticed them that day. Not until after Paul had fallen sick and mentioned to him the cookies. He's still angry with himself about that but I left him the detailed time line we wrote together. We had to stick with that to make sure we caught whoever was behind this."
Fourth nodded.
"Are you hungry."Gemini asked.
"Mmmm." Fourth agreed.
"Did you want to wash up first before we go out. Ken and Paul are here and grandfather too, who's been waiting to speak to you."
"I'd like that." Fourth replied.
"The bathroom is there. I'll leave a change of clothes for you on the bed and you can join us when you're ready. Okay."
Fourth nodded and Gemini helped him out of bed and guided him to the bathroom. "I'll be in the living area."
When Gemini left the bedroom, he found Ken and Paul seated at the table and grandfather on the lounge. All three looked over at Gemini and it was grandfather who stood and coming towards Gemini, asked, "Is Fourth okay?"
Gemini nodded. "He is. He's washing up, then he'll join us. Can I use your bathroom?"
Grandfather nodded. When Gemini returned, Fourth had still not joined them, and taking the seat near grandfather, both Ken and Paul also joined them, as they all waited for Fourth. When Fourth came out of the bedroom, he entered the room with some reluctance and uncertainly but grandfather immediately motioned for Fourth to join them.
"Come. Come, Fourth. Sit here." Grandfather patted the seat between himself and Gemini and Gemini nodded with an encouraging smile.
Fourth came over and sitting down glanced at Ken and Paul opposite him.
Paul gave a small smile and said, "I'm sorry Fourth. I only found out recently what was happening but I wasn't able to tell you."
Fourth watch his friend speak with regret and Ken took his hand and held it in his.
"That's okay. It had to be this way. I know that. But..." Fourth paused before adding, "when were you going to tell me about this." Fourth pointed to Ken and Paul holding hands.
"Ah." Paul said, blushing. "Well... um."
Ken gave a chuckle, "We aren't officially together yet but now that this is almost over, we plan to be."
Paul whipped around to stare and Ken, who in turn stared back at Paul with a determined look, making Paul blush again.
"Then it's still not over." Fourth turned to ask Gemini.
"Unfortunately, not." Grandfather was the one to reply.
Fourth turned to look at the elder gentleman dressed casually in knitted pants and button up long sleeve shirt.
"Hello, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Gemini's grandfather and I believe I owe my thanks to your for saving both myself and Gemini."
Fourth blushed and gave an awkward nod in response.
"Now that we're all here I can tell you it's about to come to an end."
"Seriously." Gemini asked in eagerness. "Does that mean I can see my parents again."
"You'll need to prepare yourself Gemini. Our family is not only about to find out neither of us are dead but also who was behind this."
"You know." Gemini asked and grandfather sorrowfully nodded.
The lawyer arrived at the apartment later that afternoon and he and grandfather went to grandfathers room to speak privately.
All four friends sat at the dining table nervously waiting and looking back towards grandfathers bedroom often.
Fourth took Gemini's hand under the table and entwined their hands together.
"I want this to over so I can get back to my life." Gemini told them and all three nodded.
After some time, the lawyer and grandfather exited the bedroom and grandfather bid the lawyer farewell.
All eyes watched as grandfather came to the table to speak to them.
"Ken and Paul, thank you for everything you've done." Grandfather told them and both men nodded. "I ask that you both return to your dormitory and speak to no one until Gemini has contacted you."
Both nodded again and rising, Ken gave a small bow to grandfather and turning to Gemini said, "Good luck."
Gemini stood and coming around hugged Ken. "Thank you my friend, for everything."
"I'll away have your back." Ken told him, return his embrace.
When they separated Gemini also hugged Paul, and asked, "Take care of my friend."
"Of course." Paul said.
Fourth also came around and hugged Ken, thanking him before embracing Paul firmly. "Thank you. We'll talk soon."
Paul nodded and when they separated they waved goodbye and left.
"Now." Grandfather said to the two remaining men, "Time to return to the main house. Fourth, you'll join us."
Fourth nodded, taking hold of Gemini's hand. There was no way he was going to parted from him until he safety knew it was all over.
Their arrival at the main house created a huge uproar. The house staff wailed and cried at the return of Grandfather and Gemini and every family member reacted in shock and disbelief. But the sudden appearance of those they thought dead immediately turned serious with the realisation something sinister must have happened for their two beloved family member to pretend they were dead.
They were all now seated in the living room, Gemini held tight is his mothers arms, his father standing behind him, hand on Gemini's shoulder. Aunt and Uncle hovered around grandfather and Jan and Jamie sat off to the side with Fourth, who sat awkwardly having still yet to be introduced.
"Father. There had better be a damn good explanation for this." Aunt said through tears.
Grandfather patted her hand holding his and said, "It should never have gotten this far but it became clear the person responsible for this situation was never going to be found."
"What situation?" Gemini's mother asked.
"Before I explain, please let me introduce the young man here." Grandfather turned everyones attention to Fourth, who suddenly moved awkwardly where he sat. "This here is Fourth, a very close friend of Gemini's. He's been helping us the past few months with the situation."
The family all acknowledged Fourth, who in turn bowed in greeting but remained quiet.
"Father. Please tell us." Aunt pleased.
"Then, let me get straight to the point. I was hospitalised because I was found to be poisoned. And not once, put three times."
There was a pause before both daughters exploded in anger. Grandfather waved his hands to indicate they lower their voices and they did so immediately.
"I hoped that by changing ownership of the business and property it would stop that person from harming me. What I didn't realise was they would turn their attacks towards my grandson."
"No." Gemini's mother said, pulling Gemini closer to her. "Who would do such a thing."
At that moment, one of the staff entered, Her face still puffy and red from crying, said to grandfather, "There are some people here to see you."
"Let them in shortly." Grandfather told her, and she bowed and left the room.
Grandfather took a deep long breathe out and glancing at everyone around the room, grandfather told them all, "I am honestly bitterly disappointed. And I can't fathom why someone would want to kill but least of all their own son."
The silence was deafening before Gemini's mother jumped up from the seat, Gemini grabbing her as she turned to face his father.
"You. You poisoned our son. Our son." The rage in mother voice was nothing compared to her expression as she launched herself over the lounge towards father, who dodge and made to quickly leave the room. The closed doors opened and several police came in and caught father in his tracks.
In a panic, father said, "That's crazy. Why would I kill my own son. Grandfather has completely lost his mind. He's not of sound mind."
Grandfather stood and came to the centre of the room. "The cookies. They were laced with a slow release poison, that meant it couldn't be traced back to them. The last bag sent to Gemini had not only traces of your fingerprints on the bag and the post-it note was your handwriting."
"That doesn't prove anything." Father demanded. "I was getting the cookies from the kitchen staff, any one of them could have did it. You accusations are untrue."
One of the police officers now in the room stepped forward and said, "Forensic tests show the cookies were laced in poison after they were made. There was no evidence of anyone other than father ever touching the bag, inside and out. The note clearly shows the cookie were meant for Gemini. We'll have out forensic team do a sweep of the house. If the poison is present in any of the rooms or out houses, we'll find it."
Grandfather then reached inside his coat pocket and pulled out a yellow envelope.
All eyes were drawn to it and grandfather said, "An insurance policy and will were made by father for Gemini several days after I left everything in his name. If anything were to happen to him, everything Gemini owned would be inherited by his father after twelve months."
Gemini held his mother back as she once more went to launch herself at father, in her anger she yelled, "You bastard. Why! Our son. You tried to kill our son."
"Why. Have you ever once thought what it's been like for me living here." Father snapped back.
His words shocked everyone and mother continued to fight Gemini's, who held her back from attacking father.
"Living here. Living here." Mother yelled in disbelief.
The soft face of the man who had been part the family for many years suddenly grow hard and as his eyes grow dark, he replied, "Never once have I been part of this family. No matter what I did I was always look down on, like I was useless."
"Are you insane." Mother yelled at him. "When did anyone ever think you were useless."
"While you're all off working for the company, I was stuck here managing the house. Do you have any idea how degrading that was." Father growled back.
Everyone in room was taken back.
"That's not true, father." Gemini told him.
"You were always closer to your mother, you never needed me, not once." Father told Gemini. The pain in Gemini's face was heartbreaking and Fourth began to move behind everyone slowly and quietly to reach Gemini.
"It never had to be that way." Mother aguishly told father. "You could have done anything you wanted. You could have worked for the business. I don't understand."
"I don't need your pity. You never made me feel like I could be anything other than worthless."
"That's not true. I never thought that. Never." Mother pleaded, confused at how her husband, who she truly loved, could be the kind of person who lived with resentment for so long.
"Enough." Grandfather growled and the room fell silent again. "Please take him away."
The police came forward and taking father's arm went to lead him from the room. But not leaving without a fight father lashed out. The police officers immediately, forcefully pinned father to the ground and handcuffed him before dragging him up and removing him from the room. Only once father was gone and room fell quiet again did everyone begin to move. Aunt rushed over to her sister who had now collapsed in Gemini's arms. Gemini continued to call his mother name unable to get a response. Uncle also came over as he gathered mother up and with Aunt's help they carried her from the room.
"Jan," Grandfather asked, "Can you please contact the family doctor and ask him to come a monitor you aunt."
"Of course, grandfather." Jan said, and indicating toward Jamie to join her, both women left.
Gemini stood still staring after his mother as Fourth approached him from behind and wrapped his arms around Gemini's waist.
"Are you okay?" Fourth murmured.
Gemini turned and Fourth loosened his embrace as Gemini faced him and in turn wrapped his arms around Fourth and began to cry on his shoulder. Fourth looked at grandfather who gave a weak smile and slowly turned and left the room.
Gemini and Fourth sat silently in the vase luscious green garden behind the main house. The cousins joined them briefly to say mother had been sedated and now resting peacefully.
"Don't worry about your mother, she'll be looked after by all of us." Jan told Gemini.
Gemini could only nod in response.
"Please take care of Gemini, Fourth." Jamie asked and Fourth nodded.
"Of course I will, You don't need to worry." Fourth told them before they both left.
The sound of birds in the trees and the rustling of leaves as the gentle breeze blow around then created a gentle peaceful environment as both sat quietly reflecting on the days events.
"Are you okay?" Fourth broke the silence.
Gemini shook his head as tear began to fall again.
"My father." Gemini said in disbelief. "My father."
Fourth wrapped his arm around Gemini's shoulders as he cried again. Fourth knew it would take time for their family to recover and no matter what Fourth would remain beside Gemini to help him get through the pain he was experiencing.
