CHAPTER TWELVE

Joe woke up early, as he often did on Christmas. There was something about the quiet, still moments before the house came alive, something that made him feel like a kid again.

He glanced over at his two girls, both sleeping soundly in the bed beside him. Blossom was curled up under the covers, a peaceful expression on her face. Bloom was nestled beside her, her tiny hands clutching the edge of the blanket. Joe smiled softly, careful not to wake them too soon.

But he couldn't wait. It was Christmas morning, and Joe was filled with an infectious excitement. He slowly got out of bed and tiptoed over to the Christmas tree, which stood grandly in the corner of the living room, its branches heavy with ornaments and twinkling lights.

The floor was littered with gifts—an overwhelming pile, the result of Joe's determination to give Bloom the best Christmas ever. His eyes sparkled as he scanned the room. He'd been planning for months, and this was the culmination of all his hard work.

Joe gently shook Bloom awake. She stirred, blinking her big brown eyes at him. The sight of her always made Joe's heart swell with affection.

"Morning, Bloom," Joe whispered softly, his voice warm and full of joy.

Bloom looked up at him, her face breaking into a sleepy smile. She stretched her tiny arms out as if to greet the world. Joe chuckled softly as he scooped her up into his arms. She squirmed a little, still half asleep, but then she settled into his embrace, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Time to see what Santa brought you, sweetheart," Joe said, his voice full of delight.

With Bloom in his arms, Joe practically skipped down the stairs, the sound of his feet tapping against the wooden steps filling the house. The tree was just as magical in the daylight as it had been the night before. Bloom's eyes grew wide as she looked at the pile of gifts waiting for her.

Joe sat down on the floor and carefully placed Bloom in front of the tree. "Look at all these presents, Bloom. This is your first Christmas, and I got you everything," he said with enthusiasm.

Bloom, ever the curious infant, started tugging at the colorful wrapping paper on one of the gifts. She wasn't quite old enough to understand the concept of presents, but she was definitely fascinated by the crinkling sound of the paper. Joe laughed as she continued to pull at it, completely engrossed in the sensory experience.

Blossom, who had just woken up to the sound of Joe's excitement, appeared at the top of the stairs. She rubbed her eyes and stretched, still looking a little sleepy but smiling at the sight of her two favorite people.

Joe, noticing her, waved enthusiastically. "Hey, come on down! It's time for presents!"

Blossom raised an eyebrow. "You got her all of this stuff?" she asked, her voice tinged with amusement. "You know she's not going to care about any of it, right?"

Joe grinned, undeterred by the reality that Bloom wouldn't appreciate the toys for a few more months. "I know, but she's going to have the best Christmas ever. She'll appreciate them eventually." He gestured excitedly to the pile of gifts. "Look at all this. I went all out for her, Blossom."

Blossom rolled her eyes and made her way down the stairs, still in her pajamas. "I'm sure she'll love it," she said dryly, but there was a smile tugging at her lips.

Joe was practically bouncing as he opened the first gift, a plush bear that he had bought for Bloom. She seemed interested in the crinkling of the paper but didn't seem to care much about the actual toy. She let out a tiny squeal when Joe picked her up and held the bear in front of her, but then she quickly grabbed Joe's face instead, her tiny hands grabbing his cheeks and pulling him closer. Joe laughed and kissed her forehead.

"She's already my little snuggler," he said with a grin, completely smitten by the affection Bloom was showing him.

Blossom stood next to them, her arms crossed, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. "She doesn't care about any of those toys, Joe," she said again, clearly amused by his boundless enthusiasm.

Joe just shrugged, still smiling. "It's okay. I don't mind. She's my girl."

Bloom continued to tug at the wrapping paper with determination. She managed to tear a small piece off and crammed it into her mouth, which made Joe laugh out loud. "I think that's not for eating, sweetheart," he said, trying to gently pull the paper away from her mouth.

Blossom laughed too. "Don't worry, Joe, she'll get the hang of it. Just give her a few years."

Joe nodded, clearly enjoying the moment. "Years? I want to enjoy it now. This is the best Christmas ever."

Blossom smiled and knelt down beside them. She began opening her own gifts, and Joe, still full of excitement, handed her one of the presents he had gotten for her. "Here, you didn't think I forgot you, did you?" he said playfully.

Blossom raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "You got me gifts?" she asked, her voice a mix of surprise and affection.

Joe nodded enthusiastically. "Of course! You're my family now, Blossom. I had to go all out for you too."

Blossom's expression softened as she took the gift from Joe's hands. "Thank you," she said, her voice sincere. "You really didn't have to."

But Joe was already lost in his excitement, watching Bloom as she clumsily tried to unwrap another toy. He could barely contain himself. "I want to see what she does with all of this stuff," he said, practically bouncing in his seat. "It's all for her."

Blossom carefully opened her gift, revealing a beautiful necklace that Joe had picked out for her. She smiled, touched by the thoughtfulness. "This is really nice, Joe," she said, her voice filled with warmth. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," Joe replied, his eyes sparkling as he watched her admire the necklace. "You deserve it. You and Bloom are everything to me."

Blossom smiled at him, clearly moved. "I know," she said softly, her hand reaching out to gently touch his arm. "We're lucky to have you too."

Meanwhile, Bloom had moved on from her fascination with the wrapping paper to pulling at another gift. She had already managed to make a mess of the pile, but it didn't seem to bother Joe at all. He was just happy to be spending this moment with his two favorite people, sharing in the joy of Christmas.

Later, after all the presents had been opened and the wrapping paper had been cleaned up, the family prepared to head to Trinity and Jon's house for Christmas dinner. Joe bundled Bloom up in her warmest clothes, carefully wrapping a blanket around her as he held her close. She was content in his arms, her tiny hands curling around the fabric of his shirt as she snuggled against him.

Blossom, now fully dressed and ready to go, stood by the door, waiting for Joe to finish getting Bloom ready. She smiled fondly at the sight of him holding their daughter. "You're going to spoil her, aren't you?" she teased.

Joe just grinned. "I can't help it. She's my little angel."

The drive to Trinity and Jon's house was short, but by the time they arrived, Joe had already managed to make a big fuss over Bloom, showing her off to everyone they encountered along the way. At Trinity and Jon's house, the holiday atmosphere was just as festive, with the scent of roasting turkey and pies wafting through the air.

Jon, who was holding his own infant, was quick to make a joke when he saw Joe entering with Bloom still in his arms. "I think I need another Godbaby, because this one acts like she doesn't know her Godfather is in her face," Jon said, his voice full of humor.

Everyone in the room laughed, and Joe stuck his tongue out playfully at Jon. "She only knows Joe now," Blossom chimed in with a teasing grin.

Jon raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? She'll learn to love me eventually."

Joe smirked. "She's already got me wrapped around her little finger," he said proudly, his gaze softening as he looked down at Bloom.

As they settled in for dinner, Bloom stayed happily in Joe's arms, content to be surrounded by love and warmth. The table was filled with food and laughter, the conversation flowing easily as everyone shared stories and enjoyed the holiday spirit. Joe, still buzzing with excitement from the morning, couldn't help but feel incredibly lucky.

This was his family now, and there was no gift in the world that could compare to the joy he felt in these moments.
