Shay's POV
I waited for my ride to pick me up at the airport and checked my phone for the time.
It was already past 10 a.m., so Shawn must have left by now. I really wished I could go to Hawaii with him, but unfortunately, I can't be in two places at once. I know he's been going through a lot lately with the new problems arising at the company because I saw it all over the news about the prosecution office issuing a warrant to investigate Shelby.
I have no idea what's going on at Falcon Group anymore, but I know that it's quiet bad. Plus, Dad pressuring Shawn every day because he's the current CEO is just too much for him. So I really think that him going on this vacation was a good idea.
He needed a break from it all, and I swear that when he gets back, I will make it up to him for not letting me go with him so I can spend some time with Jason.
My phone buzzed in my back pocket, and I quickly pulled it out. I saw that it was a text from an unknown number. With just a quick swipe, my phone unlocked immediately using face recognition, and I quickly read the text:
J- Just found out that you won't be at work for a while. Are we still on for that date?
I instantly smiled after reading the text and realizing it was from Jason. So I quickly texted back:
Of course. BTW, how did you get my number?
J- A little birdie told me...
I chuckled and shook my head. Of course, Sylvia would happily lend him my number. He immediately sent a new text a second later:
J- What are you up to?
Waiting for my ride at the airport.
J- Wait, where did you go?
Actually, I was supposed to go somewhere, but that plan is canceled. So I'm just gonna head straight to Sylvia's place when my ride gets here.
He didn't reply after that, but two minutes later, he finally did, and the question made my heart leap:
J- Want me to come pick you up instead? We can go grab that coffee that you suggested last night?
I did an internal scream and hugged the phone to my chest. We could make this our first date, and I don't know, but if he's willing, maybe we can talk about going on more dates over this coffee.
Sure. Better get here before my driver does.
I pulled my suitcase a little further up ahead and waited near the front entryway of the airport. I quickly called my driver to tell him not to come, then slipped my phone back in my pocket and waited for Jason to arrive with an excited look on my face.
Twenty minutes later, a familiar black Porsche pulled up in front of me, and the window rolled down, revealing Jason sitting inside with one hand on the wheel. I smiled and crouched a little lower so I could see him properly. He grinned at me, stepped out of the car, and made his way toward me.
"Hi," he smoothly greeted me in his deep masculine voice.
"Hey."
"Let me get that for you."
He took the handle of my suitcase from my hand, pulled it toward the back of the car, easily lifted it with one hand, and placed it inside the trunk.
Then he opened the front seat door for me and motioned for me to get in. I happily got inside the car, trying to maintain my excitement and trying not to smile too much or he might think I'm weird or something.
OoO
Jason brought me to a fancy-looking café called 'Lalaland,' which is one of my mom's usual hangout spots where she meets with her old posse.
I didn't want to say anything to Jason about it, so I just crossed my fingers that my mom or her friends weren't there. The last thing I want is for any of them to see me together with Jason, and knowing my mom's friends, our pictures together would be all over some gossip magazines by morning.
I've already had my mom pressuring me about marriage and blind dates, so the last thing I need from her is to also bother me about my relationship with Jason too. She thinks that I went to Hawaii with Shawn, so I'm safe for now.
I ordered a non-fat latte with cream and no sugar, and Jason surprisingly just ordered black coffee for himself. That was the first thing I learned about him in the past few minutes.
"Why'd you take a leave from work?" He started off by asking me.
"I was supposed to go on this thing with my, um... older brother, but we managed to agree that it would be best if I just stayed back."
He slowly nodded and turned his attention back to the waitress who had finally brought our beverages in less than five minutes.
No wonder why my mom likes this place; the service is actually kind of good.
Or maybe it's just people's first-time impression when they come here.
"I didn't know you had an older brother."
Crap, I wasn't planning on telling him my whole life story, but somewhere down the line, we'll get to that stage soon. So I was only planning to mix up the truth with a few little white lies in between.
Maybe I can tell him a few things about my family but not who they really are.
"That's because you never asked."
A corner of his mouth lifted, he sipped his coffee, and then fully smiled.
"Right. But that will soon change, if you agree to go out for dinner with me tomorrow night?"
My heart did a double backflip. I tucked a loose hair strand behind my ear, kept my eyes on my latte, and then finally looked up with a content smile on my face.
"Sure. I would like that."
For the next hour and a half, we continued to talk about many things. Things I was surprised to find myself sharing with him that he found amusing and happy at the same time. I even found out some very interesting things about him.
The fact that he loves fruit salad and counts it as an addiction, compared to my own addiction to chocolate cupcakes, didn't even lower my level of attraction to him. Long-hour drives and the gym were his ways of stress relief, which is one thing we have in common, except for the gym part.
I wasn't surprised when he said he was an only child; I kind of assumed that straight away with the way his mom endlessly praised her love for him when we first met. He seems really different from the person I see at work, and I like that about him.
The way he's smiling a lot while talking to me, the way he easily shared a lot of his past experiences and funny and happy moments with me, and the way he looks at me while listening to everything I say. It's crazy to even think about it at first, but...
I think I'm falling in love with him.
