They did not give the name to the little baby, but only a nickname called âSnowballâ.
Wei Changfeng thought that sounded too random, but Wei Mama liked the name and she said, âA random name is good! Babies with random names are easy to raise!â
Sheng Mama was also happy when teasing the child, whispering, âSnowball, my Snowball! I love you so much~!â
The two families were in better spirits as they saw the new generation was born, as if they were almost twenty years old younger, smiling from ear to ear.
Sheng Changâan also laughed. He giggled at his wife for one moment and at his son the next, and Qi Leâan even peeked out and saw Sheng Changâan bump into the doorframe.
After bumping into it, he was still giggling, and Qi Leâan was afraid that Sheng Changâan would injure his brain.
The little boy was red, probably because he was well-nourished, and he did not look wrinkled. His eyes were squinted together, but the corners of his mouth looked like he was smiling. Not to mention both parents, even Qi Leâan looked at him with pity and love.
That evening, the newly promoted father stayed with the mother in the ward, while both parents were sent home.
Wei Changfeng was in a good mood and he rolled around in bed with Qi Leâan in his arms. Qi Leâan was also in a good mood, and the two couldnât resist having a slow and romantic sex. After a quick snog and a hot shower, they lay under a warm blanket, with Wei Changfeng holding Qi Leâan and a smile on his lips.
Qi Leâan took small sips and kissed Wei Changfeng and said, âEveryone will definitely think Snowball is a child born in winter from now on.â
Wei Changfeng couldnât help but laugh and said, âLater on, he will definitely be as afraid of heat as my sister.â
The two of them had a little chat under the quilt, and Qi Leâan slowly fell into sleep as he thought about the wonders of life.
But this night was destined to be different from every other night.
Qi Leâan had a dream.
He dreamt of his old house, where he seemed to be a child, standing in a yellowing room, looking at everything in confusion.
But it was all so real, not at all like a dream to him.
The doorbell suddenly rang; it was an old-fashioned doorbell with a raspy sound, and Qi Leâan seemed startled. He ran over to open the door carefully.
Behind the door, there stood people he knew so well but who were so unfamiliar.
Qi Leâan looked at the couple and opened his mouth, but could not make a sound.
Mum â¦â¦ Dad â¦â¦
The woman with short hair smiled at him and said, âLeâan, wonât you open the door for me and Daddy?â
Qi Leâan opened the door with shaking hands, and the moment he opened it, he was surprised to find that he had grown bigger! From a child, he had become an adult!
His mother looked at him with what seemed to be tears in the corners of her eyes and said, âLeâan â¦â¦ youâre a grown-up now.â
Qi Leâan told himself, âThis is a dream! This must be a dream!
However, his mother shook her head, her gaze full of love, and she said, âLeâan, this is not a dreamâ¦â
She was shorter than Qi Leâan, and she stepped forward and embraced her child, murmuring, âMy Leâanâ¦â
The touch was so real that Qi Leâan could even feel the heat from his motherâs body, and he stared wide-eyed, saying, âMom â¦â¦ Mom?â
His father was watching him from the side and heard this cry from him and his eyes turned red.
Mother let go of Qi Leâan, her eyes wet, and she said, âLeâan⦠we havenât seen you for a long time.â
âThis is not a dream?â Qi Leâan could no longer tell the difference between a dream and reality; everything that was happening was too real!
He suddenly remembered the night he was reborn, and that was how the system had literally appeared in his world!
âThe system⦠the nightmare system!â Qi Leâan shouted with wide eyes, âSystem, is that you?â
Qi Leâanâs mother looked at Qi Leâan tenderly.
Qi Leâan mumbled as he said, âWhat is â¦â¦ this? Mum â¦â¦ mum? Dad?â
Hearing Qi Leâan calling out, happy smiles appeared on the coupleâs faces. Qi Leâan watched his mum walk over to his dad as his dad spoke, âThatâs not the nightmare system⦠or rather, thatâs a complex intelligent projection system and has an autonomous consciousness as it continues to evolve.â
Qi Leâanâs eyes widened.
His mother smiled warmly, just like the mother he remembered, her eyes shining with tears as she said, âLeâan, we took this moment of time and space overlap to meet you. Itâs so good⦠to see you again.â
Qi Leâan didnât understand what this meant, but he had a premonition of what was to come, and he stepped forward, trying to grab his mother!
But this time, there was no more skin-to-skin touch! His hand passed through his motherâs body!
His father looked at him lovingly and said, âLeâan⦠youâve grown up.â
âWhat the hell is going on here!â Qi Leâan, full of panic, said, âDonât go! Donât you go!â
Qi Leâanâs mother shook her head, her tears finally falling down.
âListen to us, Leâan.â Qi Xiaoguo said, âDo you remember that letter?â
The letter? What letter?
Qi Leâan darted through his mind and suddenly remembered that Lawyer Tang had said a letter had been lost!
âThe answer to everything is there.â Qi Xiaoguo said, âGo find that letter; itâs in our house.â
âLeâan.â Her mother called tenderly, âRemember, mummy and daddy love you.â
Qi Leâanâs tears finally came to his eyes! Qi Xiaoguo shook his head and said with red eyes, âYou are a big boy; why are you still crying? Youâll have to live on your own in the future; thereâs no way for mummy and daddy to accompany you.â
âNo!â Qi Leâan shook his head frantically and said, âNo!!!â
The two figures began to disappear in front of Qi Leâan, who shouted, âNo!! Dad!! Mummy!!!â
The couple, meanwhile, were looking at their child tenderly and gratefully from the side.
Leâan, mummy and daddy love you.
Leâan, from now on, you will be peaceful and happy.
At the moment when his parentsâ figures completely disappeared, Qi Leâanâs head suddenly felt a sharp pain!
The pain seemed to invade the depths of his soul, causing him to let out an uncontrollable scream! He felt his body begin to plummet wildly downwards; the moment of his own death seemed to be before his eyes. And in the midst of the extreme pain, he suddenly saw his own body full of tubes that had stopped breathing!
No, no, no!!! It wasnât supposed to be like this!
Images flew before him; he saw himself being thrown to the ground by his eldest uncle; he saw Wei Changfeng approaching and draping a coat over his dead body.
All the pain suddenly disappeared.
The image stopped on Wei Changfeng, and Qi Leâan began to feel a warmth flooding in his body.
He heard someone call anxiously in his ear, âLeâan? Leâan!â
Qi Leâan, wake up.
Qi Leâan said to himself.
Wake up, Wei Sama is waiting for you.
Qi Leâanâs eyes snapped open!
Beside him, Wei Changfeng said urgently, âWhatâs wrong? Having a nightmare?â
Qi Leâanâs heart was still pounding as Wei Changfeng, who was standing by, got up and got him a glass of water.
âItâs alright. Youâll be fine when you wake up from the dream. Wanna have some water?â
Qi Leâan seemed to have not yet come out of his dream. Wei Changfeng fed the water to his mouth and he took a sip.
Wei Changfeng put the water aside and held him in his arms.
Qi Leâan felt the beating of another heart.
Pounding, pounding.
Steady and strong.
He suddenly breathed heavily like a person who had just drowned, his sanity finally all coming back to him. Qi Leâan panicked, âWei Sama! Wei Sama!â
Wei Changfeng said as gently as ever, âWei Sama is here.â
âI had a dream.â Qi Leâan gasped, âI dreamed of â¦â¦ my mum and dad.â
Wei Changfeng listened quietly.
âNo,â Qi Leâan said with a white face, âthat wasnât a dream⦠that wasnât a dream!â
Qi Leâan glanced at the date on the bedside clock, August 9, 2016.
The date of his own death.
Wei Changfeng sighed, kissed Qi Leâan and said, âLetâs go back to see them, okay?â
Qi Leâan was dazed in Wei Changfengâs arms.
âOkay,â Qi Leâan murmured, âWei Sama, I want to go backâ¦â
I want to go back and find out whatâs going on.
Wei Changfeng said, âOkay.â
On the third day after Snowball was born, Wei Xinâan went home from the hospital and Wei Changfeng and Qi Leâan boarded a plane back to China.
Wei Mama was very puzzled by this and she said, âYou are still so busy? Stay for two more days before you leave!â
Wei Changfeng took the initiative to say, âThere are some things at home that we havenât finished, so we must go back.â
Then he said to Snowball, who was still in the swaddle, âBe good, Snowball, your uncles will see you again when you are one month old!â
Although Wei Mama wanted her son to stay for two more days, she could not stop this parting and could only see the two off to the airport.
After a ten-hour flight, Qi Leâan and Wei Changfeng arrived in Hai City.
According to Qi Leâanâs dream, the letter that his parents had mentioned was located in his âhomeâ. After thinking about it, Qi Leâan felt that his home could only be the old house where he had lived with his grandfather when he was a child.
He was particularly grateful for the help of Lawyer Tang, who had helped him get back all the familyâs property that belonged to him from his eldest uncle. He didnât delay for a moment after returning home and went straight back to his old house.
This house was bought by his parents and they asked his grandfather to take him to live here back then. Later on, his eldest uncleâs family also moved in. Qi Xiaoguo and his wife were kind and felt that they could not take care of the elderly and the child when they were away from home all the time, so they acquiesced to their brother and sister-in-lawâs moving in.
The house was actually not very big, with three rooms and a hall, and Qi Dazhu lived in the main bedroom when Qi Xiaoguo and his wife were away. Only when the couple returned did Qi Dazhu reluctantly move out.
Qi Leâan even heard his aunt say that she would let him give up his own bedroom when her daughter grew up!
Unfortunately, before Qi Leâanâs cousin could grow up, his own parents passed awayâ¦
Qi Leâanâs eyes had a few moments of loss when he thought of this.
He didnât let Wei Changfeng accompany him, but returned to the house full of memories by himself. After his grandfatherâs death, his eldest uncleâs family had completely occupied this house. At first, he still had his own space in the house; but later, he was evicted directly.
If there was anywhere in the house where the layout hadnât been changed, it had to be his grandfatherâs room!
Qi Leâan thought so, and the first thing he did when he entered the house was to go to his grandfatherâs bedroom.
There were two rooms in the house that had sunshine in them. Qi Xiaoguo and his wife had made them into bedrooms for the elderly and the child. It wasnât that Qi Leâanâs uncle hadnât thought of changing into these rooms with sunshine later, but maybe because they were afraid of being haunted by nightmares, so they never took action.
Grandpaâs room was left as it was, apart from being piled with all sorts of miscellaneous stuff. When Qi Leâan looked at it, he felt tears were welling up.
His childhood photos, his homework books, and even the little red flower sticker that his teacher had rewarded him with were all there.
Qi Leâan patrolled the place, which had not been visited for a long time and was filled with dust and a peculiar smell, and pondered where he should start looking.
