Chapter 22: Birthday

Not Alone [Jacob Black x Reader]Words: 3128

I had gone home that night wanting to help my mom set up for my party the next day. It wasn't going to be a huge party, just some close friends and my mom.

There weren't many decorations, just some chairs outside for a bonfire, a table for food, and some extra beanbags and stuff for a movie in the living room, and some balloons here and there.

I was excited to have a birthday party, though. I've never really had one, only small celebrations with my mom and "aunt". My dad was always working on my birthday. He would always try to make up for it by getting me something expensive that I didn't really need. This wouldn't be my first birthday without my dad, but it would be my first without my aunt.

I feel guilty for missing her, given what she did to my mom, but I can't help it. She was like my best friend, after my mom. She would take me shopping and the three of us would have movie nights together. But now, all those memories are tainted with the fact of her betrayal. I don't know how my mom held it together all those years.

I went to bed early that night, anxious for the next day.

I was awakened by my mother jumping on my bed, smothering my face with kisses. "Happy Birthday, Princess!" she yelled. I groaned over being woken up, but I couldn't help but smile at my mom. "Up, up, up!" she exclaimed, getting off my bed, "We have many things to do." With her statement, she left me to get ready.

I got up and threw on a Coldplay t-shirt and some jean shorts, along with yellow hightop converse. I walked out to the kitchen to the smell of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. I reached for a piece of bacon and my hand was lightly slapped away by my mom. "Not yet, Y/N, wait until everything's done," she chastised, smiling lightly.

I groaned and pretended to walk away before quickly snatching a piece and sitting at the counter's stool. My mom gasped in false shock before chuckling. I stuck my tongue out at her before smiling and taking another bite of my bacon.

After my mom got everything served, she sat next to me while we ate. "So, what do you wanna do today?" she asked. I let out a deep breath and thought for a moment. The party didn't start until around 4 and it was only 9. "A movie, lunch, and then ice cream?" I suggested. "Sounds like a plan," mom responded.

I continued to eat for a bit until I noticed my mom staring at me with a smile on her face. I swallowed my bite before looking back at her and questioning, "What?" She brushed a hair behind my ear before responding, "I just can't believe what a beautiful, kind, and loving young lady you grew to be. I'm so grateful for you."

I smiled and pulled her into a hug. We finished our meal talking about random things before doing the dishes and leaving to find a movie to watch.

I am so lucky to have my mom.
