Chapter 14: Bonfire

Not Alone [Jacob Black x Reader]Words: 5671

The next morning, a Saturday, Emily called, waking me up. "Y/N, you need to come here. And bring enough stuff to stay a couple days." Before I could answer, she ended the phone call. I sighed before grabbing an empty duffel bag from my closet.

I stuffed it with a couple pairs of jeans, a few t-shirts, plenty of socks and underwear, and my pajamas along with my toiletries.

I heard a knock at my door just as I was ready to go. I opened the door to find Jacob. I smiled at him before pulling him into a tight hug. He hugged me back just as tightly. Feeling him close to me washed away the feelings of sadness I'd felt from yesterday.

"You ready?" he asked, grabbing my duffel bag from behind me. I nodded and walked out to his truck, him following closely behind me. He got in and tossed my duffel bag to the back.

I expected us to go to Emily's immediately, but that wasn't the case. We stopped in front of a white house with a police car out front. It didn't take a detective to realize that this was Bella's house. As soon as Jake put the car in park and got out, I let out a dejected sigh.

Everything was about Bella lately, and now one of my only places away from her, the reservation, was invaded.

I saw a small argument break out between Edward and Jacob, and Bella breaking it up. I was playing with my fingers, as a way to distract myself. A shitty way, but a way.

As Jake and Bella came out to the truck, Edward and I made eye contact. He could probably hear my thoughts, as he frowned deeper than before. I gave him a small, fake, smile before we drove away.

Emily and I spent most of the day cooking for the Council Meeting that night. Well I tried to help. My cooking skills were gradually getting better with the help of Emily. Jacob spent the day on patrol while Bella sat on Emily's couch and read.

A small bonfire was started after dinner and the whole pack sat around it. I sat on a log next to Emily with enough space for two more people. Jacob came out of the house with Bella and they sat next to me, Jacob sitting directly next to me, putting an arm around my waist.

Then the tribal council started the story of their tribe. Billy spoke of how the Quilutes have always been a small tribe, but they always had magic in their blood. I leaned my head on Jake's shoulder as I listened, feeling him give me a kiss on top of my head. I smiled and continued listening.

They told us the story of the Cold Ones, and how they almost destroyed the tribe. The bravery of the Elder Chief's third wife was what saved them.

"Something terrible is coming. And we must all be ready. All of us." Billy finished. Jacob's grip around me tightened. I placed my hand on his knee and squeezed comfortingly. The council and the pack sat around the bonfire for a little while longer before going their separate ways.

Jacob had left to take Bella home, leaving me with Emily and Sam. Their guest room had practically become my room at this point, with how many nights I'd spent there. Emily and I stayed up a couple of hours longer, discussing my birthday plans. My birthday was a week or so after graduation, so everyone would probably be in a good mood to have another party.

I tried to mask how much Jake had been hurting me with his actions lately, but apparently I wasn't that good at it. "Okay, Y/N, that's enough." Emily stated suddenly when we were talking about cake flavors. "What?" I asked, already knowing what she meant. "Something is wrong, and it has to do with Bella. You're only acting like this when she's around. What is it?" Emily coerced.

I let out a shaky sigh before starting to sob. Emily immediately rushed to my side of the table and hugged me. "I think Jacob's in love with Bella." I confessed through my sobs. "Oh honey... He's your imprint, there's no one he could love more than you!" she comforted.

I shook my head against her shoulder, "He sure has a funny way of showing it. Ever since they started talking again, it's like she's the only thing he's thinking of. What if he only wants to be my protector?" I questioned, sobbing even harder now.

I knew I was being loud, but I couldn't help it. I heard the front door open, and as much as I tried to stop, my body refused. "What's wrong?" I heard the familiar voice of the pack leader ask worriedly.

Sam had become your big brother, ruffling your hair when he walked by, joking with you even when Jake and Emily weren't around. "Y/N thinks Jake is in love with Bella." Emily muttered to her fiance.

To hear someone say it out loud made me sob even harder. This whole situation was embarrassing. I was hoping to bury it in my heart and mind, but now at least five people know about how I feel. The Cullens and Sam and Emily.

I heard Sam let out an exasperated sigh, this obviously wasn't helping his stress with the whole vampire situation. "Do you want me to talk to him?" he asked.

I had calmed down by this point and pulled away from Em's grasp. I shook my head, looking up to him. "No," I told him, "I'm probably just being insecure."

Sam crossed his arms, "No, what Jake is doing to you is not okay. He may be part of the pack, but so are you. I won't talk to him about it, only because you asked me not to. But if you change your mind, make sure to tell me." He placed a hand on your shoulder.

I gave him a smile in return. A genuine smile. "I'm gonna go to bed, guys. Thank you for talking to me." I smiled at them both. "Drink a cup of water and bring another with you." Emily commanded. I nodded, following my orders. I waved goodnight to them before retreating to the guest room and setting the water on the nightstand.

I fell asleep soon after, thankful to have the pack by my side.
