The Next Morning
The next morning I woke up to a grey sky. I groggily sat up and wiped my eyes before getting up to get ready for the day. I had made plans to go to Emily's today for her to teach me how to make muffins.
I put on a generic t-shirt, jeans, a zip up hoodie, and tennis shoes before throwing my hair into a ponytail and putting on some mascara. Once I was ready, I drove out to Emily's house.
I quickly parked my car and jogged up to the door and knocked. I was pretty excited to spend some quality time with Emily. I was playing with my hands for a couple seconds before Emily opened the door with a smile, "Y/N! Come on in, I was just getting the ingredients ready." I replied with a smile and went inside.
Emily had all of the ingredients out and we got right to it. I had never made muffins before, so I messed up on a couple measurements, but luckily Emily fixed my mistakes. I was so grateful to have her in my life. Without her, I would probably be cooped up in my house this weekend.
Due to my mismeasurement, we had a lot of muffins. I mean at least 3 dozen. When I asked Emily what we were gonna do with all of them, she laughed and explained how they would all probably get eaten in minutes with how much the pack eats. I laughed along when I saw an orange truck pull into Emily's driveway.
It wasn't long before Jared came running in. He quickly sat at the table and looked at us expectantly, "Anything to eat?" he asked. This made Emily and I make eye contact before we erupted in laughter before Emily placed one of the many plates of muffins in front of him. Jared looked at us confused when the door opened again, this time by Embry and, the person I least expected, Bella Swan.
The laughter quickly died down and I held a shocked expression on my face before looking to Emily. Instead, Emily was just confused. "Who's this?" she asked cautiously. "Bella Swan, who else?" one of the boys answered, I couldn't tell who.
Emily looked Bella up and down, "Hmm, so, you're the vampire girl" she remarked. I let out a quiet chuckle before covering it with a cough. "So you're- the wolf girl..." Bella replied somewhat awkwardly. "Guess so- well, I'm not the only one." she retorted, putting an arm around my shoulder. I looked up at her and smiled before looking at Bella, who seemed to have just noticed me. "Y/N?" Bella asked, her head cocked slightly. I nodded with a tight smile.
The boys, meanwhile, were going to town on the muffins. Emily quickly grabbed Jared's arm to get his attention, "Save some for your brother!" before turning to Embry, "And ladies first!" She quickly returned to my side leaning on the kitchen island. "Muffin?" she offered to Bella. "Um, sure..." Bella accepted.
"Leave it to Jacob to get around Sam's gag order." Emily commented. I nudged her slightly as a quick defense to my boyfriend. "Oh, he didn't tell me..." Bella tried to explain. Emily and I were no longer paying attention as the boys made conversation with Bella.
Emily and I started to clean up and she gave me a knowing look and nodding towards Bella. I gave a short nod. She gave my arm a small squeeze, to which I replied with a smile. Even without words, Emily knew how to make me feel better.
"Jake's right, you're good with weird" Sam noted as he came through the door. He quickly made his way towards Emily and basically attacked her with kisses, making her giggle. I smiled watching them, hoping Jake and I would be like them someday.
Not long after, Jake and Paul came along, shoving each other and laughing. Jake came inside and quickly noticed me. He walked over and gave me a giant hug, lifting me up and twirling me around. He put me down and gave me a quick peck on the lips. Of course, then Bella decided to clear her throat as a way to tell Jacob that she was there. He looked at me expectantly and I nodded towards the door, giving him the okay to talk to her alone.
Though this little action may not be much, it meant the world to me. He knew how I felt about their relationship and made sure that I was okay before going off with her alone. When they left the house I had a small smile playing on my lips.
I spent the next hour hanging out with the pack, laughing at their jokes, teasing them. I was glad to know that even though Jacob wasn't there, I was still comfortable around them. I mean, who wouldn't be? They're like one giant family.
Eventually, Jake and Bella came back from their talk. "Hey, Y/N, can I talk to you alone?" Bella asked. The pack looked between the two of us. I nodded and got up from my spot on the couch to talk to her outside.
"So, uh... What's going on? Why didn't you tell me about Jacob?" she questioned, "About any of this?"
I was taken aback for a second before defending myself, "It wasn't my place to tell you, Bella. Besides, I've barely known about it for a week! I haven't told anybody."
"Well, I was the one who asked about Jake," she argued, "You knew I was scared for him!"
"Yeah, that's why I told him he needed to find a way to tell you!" I revealed, in hopes that she would just drop it.
"You should have told me, he was my friend first," she persisted.
At that last comment I looked away and swiped at my teeth with my tongue to try to hold it. "And now he's my soulmate," I responded coolly, "Now, we can either put this behind us, or you will hurt Jacob by holding a grudge. Because as things stand, I have nothing against you. Hell, I even defended you to our friends because of your behavior. I have been nothing but nice to you. So, are we going to put this past us or not?" I put my hands on my hips and looked at her expectantly. Though I may have looked confident, on the inside I was practically shaking with nerves.
She looked shocked at my spiel and took a small breath. "Okay, let's move past this" she nodded, "I'm happy for you two. Really." She then stood there for a bit before pulling me into an awkward hug. I didn't know what to do for a second then set my hands lightly on her back, looking around. She pulled away and nodded at me before waving goodbye to Jake and leaving.
I took a deep breath before going inside. Everyone scrambled away from the entrance, trying to play it cool. I noticed this and let out a giggle, setting off a small fit of laughter. "What was that about?" Emily asked, walking up to me. "She asked why I didn't tell her, and I told her it wasn't my place to tell." I shrugged. "And the hug?" Embry called from the couch. I raised my eyebrows and closed my eyes before looking at him, "She told me she was happy for me and Jake." Emily gave my arm a quick squeeze and I smiled at her.
Everyone then did their own thing as Jake walked up to me, placing his hands on my waist. "I'm happy you two made up. It's important that my friends and girlfriend get along," he smiled looking down at me. I smiled back, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him down for a kiss.
I hope Bella and I get along, for Jacob's sake.
