Chapter 19
When we got to the gate I paid the clerk and he gave us a weird look as we both walked in and our arms were kind of around each other. "Why do you look like your about to kill someone?" I asked Fallon. He was just staring straight ahead. He looked down at me confused at my question. The wind blew in my face and I quickly brushed it away as we started to walk around.
"Sorry" He said. I looked up and smiled.
âCan we sit for a secondâ I said. He nodded and he pulled be to the nearest bench next to a stand that was selling cotton candy. I imagined eating some and having the blueberry flavor melt in my mouth. I looked at Fallon who was staring right at me. It almost spooked me, but when I look deep into his eyes I feel warmth flood my body and I know Iâm safe.
âWhat?â He said smiling and showing his amazing bright teeth. I didnât see any fangs; I wondered how they bit down into people skin breaking it and how they drank the blood.
âNothing, you just were closer than I thoughtâ I said quickly. He moved his head far away from mine.
âSorryâ He said, clearly embarrassed. I smiled and got a little closer to him because the cool wind wasnât touch my skin anymore and I was starting to like the cold.
âYou have any money on you?â I asked. He rolled his eyes.
âIâm a prince, of course I doâ He said pulling out an old ragged wallet. I laughed. If he has money he needs to buy a better wallet. he rolled his eyes because he knew what i was thinking.
âWill you by me some of that cotton candy?â I asked him. He looked behind to where I was pointing and saw the big swabs of web-like candy and raised his eye brows.
âCotton candy it isâ he said lightly getting up and walking over to the stand and paying for a big blue stick. He handed it to me before he sat back down again.
âIâm guessing youâve never tried someâ I said.
âYour guess is correctâ he said smiling. I broke off a piece and handed it to him.
âIt wonât be the same with me, because Iâm not humanâ Fallon said not taking the candy.
âThen tell me how it is for you and Iâll tell you how it is to meâ I said reaching my hand out farther to him. There was a light above us that came on and we both looked up to see the street lamp on because the day was now night. I smiled as I looked back as Fallon. âPleaseâ I whispered. He took the candy from my hand and put it In his mouth he didnât chew it much but the expression on his face changed every second and I couldnât help but laugh out loud.
âHow is it?â I asked egger.
âIt froze in my mouth, but then melted and deformed into my mouth sliding down my throat leaving a small flavor of blueberryâ he said. He looked amused and I laughed again. I then put a piece in my mouth and tried to feel it deforming.
âIt just melted in little rocks and then I chewed it a bit and it also left a blueberry favor on my lipsâ I said. He leaned closer to me and I saw him breath in the air around me and then he smiled. âYour lips are a little blueâ I smiled
âYours tooâ I said. His pale blue lips made him look almost sick.
âMine arenât that blue, they actually get warm sometimes after I feed. I look more human after my mealsâ I nodded and then I looked over and saw something big and red.
"You want to ride on a roller coaster?" I asked him suddenly.
"a what?" He asked he looked around his eyes almost the size of gulf balls as he saw the big ride that caught my eyes.
"You....never been...on a...roller coaster?" I asked him trying not to imagine him on one for the first time.
"I guess not. Looks kind of scary" He said. I smirked and tried to not laugh in his face.
"Look who's talking" I said. I pulled him up from the bench and staring him towards the big ride. The roller coaster was lit up in the dark and it was circling and going upside down and going fast.
"Ohhh I can't wait" I said as we waited in line.
"You sure you want to do this?" he asked he was looking at me so seriously as if it was a life or death question.
"You bet your granny panties" I said. He stared at me with his mouth a little open in confusion. I laughed at his reaction and moved him farther up the line.
"My...Granny panties?" He said. I busted up laughing. The way he said it made my side hurt with laughter. "I'm sorry if I didn't understand that. You humans are a little....weird" Fallon said. I rolled my eyes playfully.
"Let's get on" I said. We showed our bands to the clerk then we hurried on. I picked the very front seat of the ride.
"I feel Stupid" Fallon said as he sat down and secured our seat belts. The roller coaster started to move up. I heard Fallon groaning next to me and I giggled.
"Baby" I said as we went up and up and up to the top of the hill. You could see there was a long way down. It hauled to a stop.
"Here it comes!" I squealed. He groaned again. I raised my hands up in the air as the coaster started again at top speed all the way down. I screamed as we went upside down and turned all over the place. I screamed till the ride stopped. My voice was going to be gone by tomorrow.
When we got back to the start of the roller coaster and the thing hauled to a stop, I realized I was clinging to Fallon as if my life was on the line. I had my arms wrapped around him and I was basically squishing him to the side of the thing. I looked up at Fallon. He was staring straight
forward. His eyes were so BIG. I slowly let go of him and got out of the ride walking with the Fallon still in kind of a shock.
"Fallon?" I asked. He blinked a couple times then he burst into laughter. He was laughing off the top of his head. He was hiding his face with his hand. He didn't stop. His laugh made me smile and want to laugh with him. He seemed too happy and joyful. He was happy. It made me happy.
"Fallon?" I asked again. He stopped and looked down at me.
"You were so scarred" Fallon smiled. "Who is the baby now?" I pulled a hand through my hair as I smiled at him. I wanted to tell him to shut up.
"I was trying to teach you a lesson" I said. He laughed again.
"What lesson was that?" he asked. He weaved his hand through mine. I smiled up at him.
"How to have fun" I said. He looked down at me and smiled again. There was a change in his attitude. I liked the happy side of him. âHow come you werenât as scared as me?â
âMy reflexes, I can run faster than the speed of that. I mostly got my joys from watching youâ He said. He let go of my hand and we kind of just looked at each other.
âYou okay?â I asked as he started to wonder away from me.
âYeah, Iâm just a little confused to why you take such a liking to me?â
âIâm not sure either. I guess itâs nice to have someone to talk to that isnât worried about my safety all the timeâ
âI worry about your safetyâ He said.
âYouâre not holding up a sign and telling everybody to âwatch out human girl hereââ I said. Fallon smiled a little and then gave me a side hug.
âWell, I guess itâs nice to be around someone who isnât judging meâ He said. âI think we could be a great teamâ
âMe tooâ We both looked back at the roller coaster and I did a big sigh. The lights around it made it look so appealing but I donât think my heart has slowed down since I got on the roller coaster, but I also think Fallons also the reason for that.
"Want to do it again?" He asked me. I laughed and shook my head.
"No" I said. "Let's play some games. I got a little cash on me" I said. As I looped my arm around his we walked to a couple of booths.
* * *
"The purple pony" I whispered into his ear. He nodded. He held the ball in his hand as I waited about a five feet away from him. He focused on the three bottles and I saw his eyes flash to the purple pony a couple times. Then he threw the ball hitting all three bottles .They all chattered into pieces. My eyes widened and my mouth hung open like an idiot. The person behind the booth looked at Fallon with the same expression.
"The purple pony please" Fallon said. "....and the black horse" The guy behind the booth grabbed both stuffed animals without letting his eyes drop from Fallon.
"Yay!" I said. I jumped up a little as he handed me my pony. It was so soft. The purple had a dark red in the middle and it was amazingly beautiful. I was attached.
"Youâre welcome" Fallon said. I smiled up at him.
"Thanks" I said. I looked down at my watch.
âWe have an hourâ I said. Fallon sighed and then he froze up. I felt a slight panic as he didnât talk to me for the next two seconds.
âWhatâs the matter?â I asked.
âI can sense Ian, he is nearâ Fallon said.
âCan he sense you?â I asked in a panic.
âNo to many people around he isnât strong enough to sense meâ Fallon was looking around as he said those words. I was a little confused by the logic and I figured that I would someday understand It a little better.
âAnd me?â
âDefinitely notâ
âWhat do we do?â I whispered.
âHe is coming around the corner of the booth at the end of the trail in three seconds. I say we runâ
âYouâre going to have to go human speedâ I said. He grabbed my hand and started to run in human speed dragging me along.
âIâll try to find a hiding placeâ Fallon said as I tried to keep up with him. I would have bumped into people but Fallonâs reflexes always moved me. People looked at us like we were weird, but I was having fun. We ended up under a table that had a large red blanket over the top falling all the way down to the floor. It was the perfect hiding place because the person wasnât advertising the body cream at the booth. When we finally got settles I realized that our bodies were extremely close.
âThis was the best you got?â
âHe was catching up, I think he could smell meâ Fallon said.
âThen why stay here?â I asked.
âI donât know. I panickedâ
âHow? Youâre a vampireâ I said. Fallon smiled at me, and I felt a little strange because I said it so coolly and I knew that made Fallon happy that I wasnât funning away when I said the words. I wasnât scared of Fallon he was like a sad puppy who lost his mom or something. I kind of wanted to touch him, and hold him.
âI just didâ He said. We sat under the table for five minutes before my phone started to buzz in my pocket.
âShould I answer?â I asked.
âYeahâ He said.
âHello?â I answered. I had so many things going through my head as I thought of something to say I already knew who it was and what that person wanted I just wanted to find a good believable lie and when half a second went by I found one. I wasnât the best liar but when I was in a panic lies would come to me like no big deal, I figured I got that from jade.
âHazel, I went to the fair but couldnât find you. Everything alright?â Ian said.
âYeah, I didnât like the fair food so I went to a fast food. Iâll meet you at the candy shop in five Iâm just finishing up hereâ I said.
âOkay Iâll see you in fiveâ Ian said.
âByeâ I closed the phone and looked back at Fallon who looked confused.
âWhat?â I asked trying not to smile.
âYouâre a good liar, whereâd you learn that?â he asked.
âI donât knowâ I said shrugging. Fallon then left from under the table and I followed him. The tension between us went down to a minimum and we both ended up in front of the roller coaster again right outside the gate. I was feeling a little sad that I had to part with Fallon. He made me laugh the way I did before my parents died and I found out I was living with a bunch of vampires. I could imagine being Fallon again and laughing. He was someone who had not really seen the world that it is now and I wanted to teach him everything. I felt this need to be his friend.
"Want to ride on the roller coaster before I have to go?" I asked him. He looked down at me with thoughtful eyes and he didnât smile but looked at me with intense eyes and it didnât make me feel uncomfortable, but I was curious to what was going through his head.
"I would love to see that face again." Fallon said. I rolled my eyes playfully and smiled up at him and he laughed at my expression. And on the roller coaster Fallon put his arms up.
