Chapter 17
I got dressed in normal jeans and a logo shirt from a band. It was nice to not dress like a 200 year old girl for once. When I finished brushing out my wavy hair I heard the door bell and ran out my room and went downstairs to Ianâs bedroom to knock on his door. The doorbell rang again and I yelled for Lucas to go get it.
âIan?â I whispered to the door. The door opened and there was Ian who had a bad attitude.
âIâm ready. Iâll take you out the back doorâ Ian said. We walked outside together and the chilled air hit my face and I smiled because it was nice to have some fresh air in my lungs again. The clouds were a dark grey and you wouldnât know it was morning. I hugged myself for warmth and Ian and I walked together towards the woods.
âYou sure you still want to do this?â He asked.
âThe ballroom or the fairâ
âThe fairâ He said.
âYepâ I said. He rolled my eyes and started to hike together. We walked through the leaves and bushes for thirty minutes and when we finally met the town I saw that it was almost vacant. It was quite, but there were a few cars driving places and a couple people walking around. Black birds circled the buildings and it looked a bit creepy, but otherwise the place looked very cozy and a place I think I could grow to like. I saw a small candy shop on the corny of a street and I jumped and pointed to it. Ian tried to hold in a smile as we walked over to the shop and he bought me all kinds of treats.
âThank you Ianâ I said hugging him. He chuckled and shook his head.
âYouâre welcome hazelâ He said.
âFair timeâ I said now pulling on his arm.
âHazel, Stop itâ He said at my excited tone that was almost childish. We were walking down the same street when his phone went off to a funny ringtone and he answered it before my laughs got any louder.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked. There was a sound of buzzing coming from the other line and he rolled his eyes.
âBecause every time you call nothing good every is going onâ More buzzing and then Ianâs expression changed and you could see he was clearly upset.
âLucas, could you just stop making a fool out of yourself and grow up! Iâll be there soonâ Ian said. âNo Iâm not letting her come. I think she is old enough to be in this small town on her own. Iâll pick her up later, besides I think she is safer in a town be she than in a room with youâ
âWhatâs the matter?â I asked looking up at him with a sweet smile.
âOne of the workers cut himself badly in the leg, and the horrible person Lucas is, attacked him and now I need to clean up the mess. Here is some cash. Go have fun at the fair, meet you back in two hoursâ Ian said. He kissed my forehead and then was gone in a flash. I sighed as I felt lonely but free at the same time. I started walking around randomly and then ran into an auditorium. It was almost like a theater but different. I skipped down the solid steps and then noticed someone was sitting down in one of them.
âFallon?â I questioned. He looked up from the small black book he was sketching into.
âHazel Trinian, are you stalking me?â he asked.
âNo I was just walking around and thatâs when I saw youâ I said. He nodded and then put his book in a bag and started getting up.
âIt was nice seeing youâ he said then started walking up the steps.
âWait, can we hangout, or maybe talk?â I asked.
âI donât think that would be a good idea.â
âI know every story has two sides and I havenât heard yours, please talk to me?â I asked. Fallon stopped walking.
âWhy do you care?â he asked.
âBecause I like to understand things and im a little confused right nowâ I said.
âCan I ask you questions too?â he asked raising an eyebrow. I have to say I donât think I was that interesting and I was sure my life story was already around town.
âI guessâ I said. He sat down and I walked up to the steps he was at and sat down next to him.
âWhy do you wear jades dresses?â He asked me. I blinked a little, but then answered him.
âTheyâre pretty and when I wear them I feel like I understand everybody just a little bit more.â I said. Fallon was wearing blue jeans a white shirt and grey jacket, heck, he looked like a normal guy.
âWhat are you doing out here?â
âSomething bad happened at the house and Ian canceled our plans and left me out here.â
âWere you guys on a date?â He asked. He looked a bit disturbed but I laughed.
âNo, I donât feel that way towards Ian, he is like a brother to meâ I said. Fallon nodded and I could tell he didnât believe me.
âIâm not anything like Jade, and if you think otherwise I think I might slap you. I was out to go to the fair with Ian because we have workers in the house and I wanted to go to the fair. Now stop being rude to me for Jades mistakes.â I said to him getting right up to his face. Fallon looked surprised and for once his eye brows were apart and he looked at me with wonder.
âDo you have something you want to ask me?â He said now in a better mood.
âHow much did you love her?â I asked.
âAsk me something elseâ he said now not meeting my eyes.
âHow much are you hurting when you see me?â I said. He looked at me and shook his head and licked his lips and then he looked ashamed.
âI donât and thatâs why Iâm so confused. When I see you, I see good, innocence, and an understanding. I donât see someone looking at me like a murdererâ he said.
âAnd youâre hurting?â
âNo Iâm not hurting anymore, but seeing you I the flesh scares me. I donât ever want to feel that hurt again and because you are so determined to be my friend, it scared me even moreâ
âSorryâ I whispered. âI guess I have been prying.â
âItâs fine. Itâs nice to finally talk to someone who isnât telling me what to do, like my parentsâ He said to me. I smiled at him softly.
âIf you loved jade why did you kill her?â I asked. âAnd why did you change the rest of the family instead of just killing them?â
âI was there, but I didnât kill or change anybody. Jade told me what she was going to do. She knew what she was doing. I was there that night to stop the killings from happening. My father is the one who was more upset than meâ
âWhy changing them though?â I asked.
âI canât figure that outâ He said. âMaybe he wanted them to live forever sad for Jades deathâ
âThat makes senseâ I said. Fallon nodded.
âWhy donât you tell everyone?â I said.
âBecause I want people to not talk to me; I like when they just ignore me and the dirty looks is a small price to pay for that.â Fallon said.
âWell you should go home thenâ Fallon said getting up again and now walking up the steps. I didnât stop him, but I just stared after him. I started back up myself, but I walked the way back to the house. I didnât really want to go to the fair anymore. When I was in the woods I felt myself trying hard to find the way we came. An hour later I realized I was completely lost and I pulled out my phone when I saw something flash in front of me.
It was a vampire, and I didnât know who it was but her fangs shinned and she gave me a nice smile.
âHumanâ She sang. I gulped but then I saw more flashing and I realized she wasnât alone. The flashing stopped and I stepped back to see that someone was behind me.
âSilly, silly humanâ Another girl sang. She flashed in front of me and stood next to the other one. The short one had pink hair and her voice was a little higher and the one that just flashed in front of me was taller and had a deeper voice with black hair.
âSilly Yummy Humanâ The pink haired girl said. I gulped I know any second now I was going to be devoured by these two vampires and I was ready to die. Then someone came up behind me and covered my mouth of the screams that were soon to come. I closed my eyes.
