Katrina : "No shit dude, you just realized that? Call me when you wake up. Smh"
Sam stared at the text, confused as hell. 'What did Kat mean by that. How did she know? What was she even saying.' Sam's thoughts filled his brain as he propped himself up on his bed.
He decided he would call her, only after he changed. He didn't want to shower. Not after last time. So he just pulled some sweat pants on and put on a shirt he found, in the scattered clothing, on the floor. He played with his hair a bit, brushed his teeth and such. Before sighing and resuming his place on his bed.
Calling : Katrina
"Hey Sam!"Â Â A familiar voice echoed through the speaker. Sam sighed, taking in her sweet voice carefully.
"Hey Kat. Uhm... you told me to call you?" Sam asked, a slightly sour taste in his mouth when he said her name.
"Yeah! So, you finally realized your in-love with Colby!" She said, the slyness evident in every word.
"No. I just... I love him... a lot. That doesn't mean I'm in-love with him." He said, fumbling through his words, trying to think of a better excuse.
"So you're still being oblivious. Oh my gosh Sam. Do you even know why we broke up?" She asked, her voice breaking Sam.
Sam thought about it, because he wasn't ready to settle down, and they wanted to do separate things. Right? That's what he thought at least.
"Because... 'cause, I wasn't ready, we wanted different things... right?" Sam's voice lingered in the air a bit, worried about Kat's next words.
"Well, yes... but I knew you could never love me as much as you loved Colby. It would always be him over me. You would always go to him first. You would always be there for him, even before me. And I knew you loved him more. More than even you realized. I knew that I didn't want to be second to him in everything. I just... I want you to at least acknowledge something I've always known."
Kats words burned Sam's heart. The fact that he had made Kat feel like she was less important than his best friend. The fact that he knew, in the back of his mind, that she was right. That she could never be as important as the boy he met in his freshman year. The boy he loved.
"But... I... loved you. I was in-love with you!" Sam spoke weakly, his mouth quivering as he tried not to cry.
"Not as much as him. No matter what you think. I know. You love him. More than you know." Kat said, sympathy echoing through the phone.
He sat there, thinking through the thoughts, knowing what Kat was saying was true. He just couldn't believe he loved his best friend, more than he had ever loved his ex-girlfriend. He heard Kat talking more, but he never processed those words, he still couldn't process her previous words.
Before you could even continue to think, there was a knock at his door. A familiar face poked through the door.
"Hey brother! Jake is coming over!" He said, looking at Sam softly. "You look a little pale, you good?"
"Mhm... just talking with Kat." Sam spoke, his voice cracking. Colby's smile faltered a bit, looking concerned for his friend. Then he took a breath and smiled.
"Okay dude! Come down soon!" Sam nodded, gulping down his excess saliva, clearing his throat.
"Let me guess, that was your boyfriend?" Kat asked, he could tell she was smirking through the phone.
"No... well, if you mean Colby... yes, but we are just friends."
"But you want to be more, don't you?"
"I... I have to go Katrina. It was nice talking to you. Text you later, maybe." Sam spoke, his voice thick with emotion and confusion.
Kat said her goodbyes before the call ended. When the call finally finished Sam let out a breath that he hadn't realized he was holding. He wiped the stray tears that had escaped from his eyes. He couldn't let Kat's words get to him, they weren't true. They couldn't be. He wasn't gay. He was straight, he had only had girlfriends. He had only loved girls. So he was straight. Right?
He just shook his head, getting himself presentable for their friend's arrival. He calmed himself. He knew he had to pretend like the previous 15 minutes hadn't happened. Because acknowledging that it happened, would hurt Sam more.
I took him a few minutes before he grabbed his phone and scurried downstairs, hearing a conversation coming from the living room. He turned into the living room, spotting Jake and Colby laughing on the couch. Colby looked up, once again his smile wavering. Jake just looked up and laughed even more.
"I... I don't even want to know." Sam shook his head towards the giggling boy.
"Samuel Brock, finally decided to show up!" Jake said, between bursts of laughter. This caused Colby to hit Jake on the arm, looking at him with an unreadable expression. Sam was just even more confused. His face slightly red from the comment.
"Yeah, what is going on?" Sam asked, knowing he probably didn't want to know.
Colby looked at Jake, who opened his mouth looking at Colby smirking, he started to say something before Colby pushed him over. Repeating the words "don't you dare Webber!"Â To Jakes giggling body.
"Ignore him. How was your call?" Colby spoke, trying to change the topic.
~1o minutes earlier~
Colby bounded down the stairs at the sound of the doorbell. He looked to see Jake Webber, on of his closest friends grinning back at him.
The had entered the living room, Jake holding some sort of energy drink. They talked for a few minutes before they somehow got to the topic of love.
"Remember your 'crush' you talked about. The boyyyyy." Jake said. Colby's face flushed, he hadn't told Jake about Gabi. Because he knew that Jake would find some way to get Colby to admit he didn't like her.
"I... I- no." Colby muttered, not being able to come up with any excuse. Jake looked at Colby and started howling in laughter. (I'm the alpha, I'm the leader-)
"Let me guess, is it Sammmmmm, is solby reaaaaal?" Jake asked, half joking. Colby hid his face in his hands, trying to pretend he didn't exist. "Ha! That just confirms it!" He laughed even harder.
"I... I don't. ... I mean-... yeah... maybe... only a little bit... I am in a-" Colby started, getting interrupted by Jake's halt in laughter.
He looked at Colby very seriously.
"Answer this for me." Colby nodded, his face heating up, worried about his friends next words.
"Are you... gonna fuck him till he can't see straight, till your dick dies?" Jake said crazy unseriously. This made Colby burst out laughing, shaking his head, trying not to picture the image in his head.
"But really-" Jake was cut off by the entrance of our main topic. Sam. He then started laughing even harder, and worrying Colby. What if, what if Sam heard him. What if Sam knew what Colby thought of him.
"I... I don't even want to know." Sam shook his head towards both of them, confused. Relief flooded Colby's face. He exhaled slightly. Knowing Sam couldn't possibly have heard them.
"Samuel Brock, finally decided to show up!" Jake spoke, between his giggles. Colby immediately hit Jake on the arm, looking at him with a warning on his face. He's cheeks glowing deeply. Sam looked skeptically at both of them.. His face lightly red from Jake's words.
"Yeah, what is going on?" Sam spoke up, looking like he just knew it was something crazy.
Colby looked at Jake, giving him another warning. Jake opened his mouth looking at his red friend with a sly look, he started to say something before Colby jumped onto, of him, attacking the guilty looking friend. He kept saying. the words "don't you dare Webber!"Â Looking at Jake like he might kill him.
"Ignore him. How was your call?" Colby said, climbing off of the boy next to him. Jake still letting out small giggles.
Sam remembering the call, looked down, his face reddening more and more. Jake noticed this and coughed up his laughter.
"Does Sammy have a girlfriend... or a boyfriend, I don't judge!" Jake asked, looking deviously at Sam. This made Sam blush even more, covering his face with his hands before sitting on the couch, as far as he could get from Colby. Worried that even looking at him would make his heart explode.
"No, uhm... it was Kat." Sam spoke, his voice uneasy from embarrassment.
Jake immediately looked up at Sam, not doing well at hiding his shock and worry. "Sam, I know how hurt you were from the break up, are you sure you want to do that again?" He spoke up, seeming genuinely concerned for his blonde friend. He asked what Colby was thinking.
"No! Uhm, it wasn't like that... it was... about something else. We are just friends! I don't like her!" Sam explained, trying not to say anything that would give any clues to the call.
Jake audibly sighed, relief on his face. Colby wouldn't show it, but he felt so much better. He hadn't realized how worried he was about his best friend's relationships. But he wasn't going to deep dive in on that.
"Uhm, has Gabi texted you Colby?" Sam asked, trying to change the subject. Jake looked to Colby, confused as hell.
"Who's Gabi?" He asked, looking at Colby skeptically. Sam looked at Colby, confused.
"You didn't tell him?" Sam asked, looking into Colby's eyes. Guilt filled Colby, knowing that if he told Jake, he would worry about Colby's loyalty to this girl, but if he didn't Jake would be confused and probably find out some other way. Making hi, even more concerned about Colby's loyalty and love towards Gabi.
Jake looked between the two boys, feeling a pit in his stomach, knowing Colby didn't trust him with this information.
"Uhm... Jake. Gabi... Gabi is my girlfriend." Colby let out. Jake's face filled with concern and anger.
"She's your WHAT!" Jake screamed, trying to calm himself down. But he couldn't understand why Colby wouldn't talk about Sam, his best friend, why he wouldn't contemplate his feelings for someone else, WHILE HE WAS IN A RELATIONSHIP!
"I wanted to tell you I just-" Colby tried to speak, Jake shook his head and grabbed the stuttering friend's hand. Pulling him into the hallway, leaving Sam to try to piece together the situation.
Jake sighed, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, looking at the guilty blue eyed boy in front of him.
"Do you love her?" Jake asked, looking straight through Colby. Colby averted his eyes, avoiding eye contact with Jake.
"I... I think. I don't know." Jake looked at Colby sternly.
"Is she just a distraction? A distraction from the person you actually love?" Jake asked, his voice cold, trying to hear out Colby.
"I... I don't know. I mean, she's nice and sweet and kind and all that. And I like her. But..."
"Not as much as him?" Jake asked, looking sympathetically at Colby.
"I... I don't even understand my feelings!" Colby cried covering his face in frustration. "I like her, she's great, and we should be perfect together. But I just can't but feel my heart ache whenever Sam is there. And he's not... mine."
Jake just looked at Colby, trying not to slap some sense into him. He pinched his nose bridge, shaking his head at the nonsense pouring out of Colby's mouth.
"Whatever dude, but you need to figure it out." Jake said, uncrossing his arms and walking back into the living room, starting a new conversation with Sam. Colby sighed, collapsing onto the ground. Groaning in confusion.
'I love Gabi! No one else. I'm straight! But... I love him.' Colby's eyes shot open, he uncovered his face. 'I love him.'
