India 9 pm

She took one last glance at the radiant dial residing on her wrist as she swiftly made her way to her car near the pavement. It was late, the night was dark and she knew it was her foolishness to be out at this hour inviting predators to herself. But there are times when you have no choice, she had to grab few of those basic essentials from the departmental store, she didn't have a choice.

She was scared as the night was weirdly dark and the silence was deafening the ears. She knew she shouldn't have watched a horror movie last night, she was seeing ghostly shadows at every corner of the street. A loud shout suddenly broke the silence into pieces. Sanyukta got alerted...that's it ! It was the beginning of the end ! she thought. That's it, she was going to die at the hand of an awfully disgusting mi human mi animal kind of thing, without any fight, without any witness... her body would be scattered on the street, her arms resting in very awkward positions, her hairs mopping the dirty floor, her clothes embarrassingly torn up...very unladylike and definitely not classy, she shuddered at the thought !

Coming out of the disturbing image she just had, she almost sprained her neck looking for the direction of the sound. She had to see what was wrong. Even though she knew she shouldn't check, her curiosity won. Her eyes finally found the source, two men were standing at a distance. Not really standing actually, as her eyes caught up a hooded guy beating another one, the latter was laying on the deserted road and shouting for help.

The shouts and whimpers were getting louder. She couldn't tolerate it anymore as her rational mind was screaming at her to go and save the victim. Without giving it a second thought she headed toward them.

"Hey you! Stop! Hey...!!! I said stop it, you'll kill the poor guy" screamed Sanyukta approaching them. The hooded guy quickly glanced towards her to see who had interrupted him, when his eyes landed on a mere girl he resumed beating his prey.

"Stop ! Look I'm calling the police, choro use, mar jaye ga !" she almost ordered elevating her pitch while taking her phone out of her pocket.

The road was covered with blood, anyone being a witness could tell that the guy on the ground was not going to last long, The hooded guy delivered one last blow knocking out the guy. He fell on the ground lifeless...There was no more movement...he was dead...right there...in front of her eyes.

"Oh my god..." gasped Sanyukta, putting her hand to her mouth and other on her chest, registering what happened right in front of her. He laid lifeless while her breath hitched in her throat. She just had witness a murder. Her eyes watered. It happened right in front of her eyes and she could not do anything to prevent it...The blow, the blood, the whimpers...she was paralysed.

The hooded guy then took calculated steps toward her, watching her antics and anticipating her next move. Sanyukta stepped back. The wind blew colder and the clouds forming the canopy over moon subsided themselves. She could now see him better. The guy had his face half covered by a black hood, only his mouth was visible. But the guy surely had a strong jaw. His sleeves were rolled up showing off a tattoo covering all his right forearm. His hoodie was open on the front revealing a tight fitted white shirt showing off his well-built structure. Every amount of him screamed danger.

He advanced towards Sanyukta with brisk steps. She was feeling like a tiny little deer in front of starving lion, what the poor little thing must go through she thought, suddenly her compassion toward the deer species increased. If she ever was to step out of this situation alive, the first thing she will do will be to sign up against deer abuse, she decided.

Snapping out of her thoughts she saw the decreasing distance between them. She acted upon it, she took one step back, for his each step forward. But alas ! She had seen it too many times on TV and she knew for a fact that she was soon going to hit a wall that would have been miraculously appeared behind her. To avoid such a delicate situation, she stopped and with the little courage left in her she dared to poke his chest, stopping him from taking another step.

"Safety distance... ever...ever heard of it? ...you are invading my private space" , she spoke up rather timidly, ...yeah not a very smart comeback to say to someone as scary as him you'll say, but hey ! right now am all alone in a dead street with a demon looking guy... what do you expect me to do ? scream bloody murder ? and give the guy the satisfaction to know that am hell scared and about to faint ? definitely NOT ! I have a reputation to maintain ladies ! Besides there was one thing I knew : never show your opponent that your are scared, it will only get worse ! ...Over time I had noticed one thing, most of the kidnappers/murderers find it quite refreshing to see someone not fear them, it provided them some kind of entertainment, as for the poor victim, well let say it secured him more minutes to live. (or more hours if he was lucky enough ! ) It was a win win situation in a way... So this is exactly what I intended to do!" her mind started counting all the possible scenarios, engaging herself in insane conversations with her brain. The guy chuckled.

" Courage... or...audacity... or may be recklessness...or just plain stupidity" he said emphasing each word with rage," I don't know how to qualify this intervention of yours" he said in whisper getting closer as she had stopped in her tracks.

"Dekho If...If you think am afraid of you then you are highly mistaken mister... mister Gangster!" she stammered.

She knew what she had to do to get out here alive. She always had a spray for situations like these, she just needed time to take it out of her waistband without being noticed. She couldn't even see his eyes and where he was looking as his upper face was covered. And that just made situation more complicated for her.

The hooded guy laughed evilly.

"Is that so? ...you don't find murders scary enough ?" he taunted her.

"Well... when you put it like that..." she trailed off.

"If witnessing a murder is not scary enough may be living it in live will be?" he told her sarcastically yet giving a serious end to the sentence.

And without any second thoughts, the guy swiftly took out a knife from his pocket. He held her tight and twisted her with a jerk so that the shiny cold metal knife was now resting against neck. Her back was just inches away from his strong chest. She could sense his wonderful perfume, Diesel for sure ! What's with murderers and kidnappers these days... a Diesel perfume for god sake ?! she thought.

"Nice perfume" she commented, desperately trying to engage a conversation. Only Sanyukta would be foolish enough to to engage in talk with a man that had her on the other hand of his knife. But while others called it foolishness, she called it audacity, and man she knew she owed it a lot. If not for her audacity she would be dead a long time ago. Trustingher instincts, she talked again. "Diesel ?" she asked. He only pressed the knife to her neck.

"Ok this is not exactly how things were supposed to go..." Sanyukta groaned. She needed to get out of here FAST ! She slowly slided her arm down her waistband.

"Okey okey no need to get angry, I was just complimenting you for taste in perfume, balahi ka to zamana hi nahi raha..." she said.

"Any last wish ?" was his curt reply.

She cleared her throat and said "I want to declare something...Um...It's not like am afraid to die... It's just that... I think I am too cute and too young to die at this moment you see,...umm... may be you can come back in a couple of years you know" she laughed nervously, as she discreetly grabbed the spray. "Got it ! " she mentally patted herself. Now she had to patiently wait for the right moment... patiently... right ! Talk about patience when you have a knife resting on your neck, she mentally face palmed herself. Focus sanyukta, focus ! it's not the time to play with words. Focus !

"Or I could just slice you pretty little neck right away and end this chapter here" he whispered dangerously in her ear.

"You could, but then you would have to take care of two dead bodies instead of one, buy two coffins, two headstones, arrange for two places in the graveyard, organise two funerals etc... etc... it's kind of expensive you know especially considering the global financial crisis going on" she desperately tried to reason him, waiting for the right time to spray him and get the hell out of here.

He chuckled at her attempts to reason him. "Or I could just throw your body over the nearest bridge and save me all the trouble of the funerals as you so rightly stated " he whispered coldly making her shudder.

"Okey, okey deadbodies ko choro" she said defeated. "...may be we could... you know... talk about it over a cup of coffee" she tried weakly..."Or tea if you prefer..." she added nervously. . He jerked her close to him. She could feel his muscles against her back... kidnappers and murderers should not be allowed to have such great bodies, she muttered. "I think I have confused him enough... By now he must be measuring my sanity level,... talking about coffin and tea in such circumstances...time for some action!" she thought and grinned.

"ok Mr. gangster it's not like am getting bored but talking about dead bodies and funerals is kind of depressing you see, besides I have some important things to do and some places to be, so if you would please excuse me..." with that said she sprayed him under his hood blinding him for a moment and ran away, this time screaming "bloody murderer" cause the least she could do was to attract the attention of the people nearby...in case the bas***d decided to come back !

2 days later, 8 am

After her daily morning jog, she was resting down the park bench. It was 8 am and not many people were there at this hour as the early fitness birdies have gone away by now and the next lot of people still hadn't arrived. Leaving Sanyukta sitting alone at the bench by the pond.

She was lost in her thoughts when a guy came to her with a piece of paper,

"Excuse me! Can you tell where this could be, I'm new to this city and probably lost" the guy smiled at her sweetly.

She eyed him suspiciously, after what happened in the past couple of days she was on alert. He was a simple looking guy with spectacles and wearing formals, probably looking for a job in town.

"Mam" the guy waved his hands in front of her to bring her back from her trance.

"Ahan yes! sorry" she took the piece and read it, while the guy eyed her.

Her instincts were still not at ease and were screaming at her to be wary of this guy, her eyes though read the paper.

"SCO-98, phase 4, Industrial area..." she read it

"Umm... take the other way you're probably lost. This is not from here. You need to go to the last junction and take bus no 240 from there, I'm not sure about the stop you should get off at" she spoke with half smile handing him the paper back

"Why don't you read the other side too" the guy smiled eye and signaled something.

"HOW MUCH WILL YOU SAVE YOURSELF. WE GOT YOU!"

Within next moment a hanky came to her nose from behind, pressed her mouth. Her vision blurred, breathe hitched, senses felt nauseating. Last she saw the guy blowing a kiss her way and her vision ended.
