Forever Raine ✔️Words: 20753

In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.

"Good morning, Girlfriend!" Xavier's husky morning voice greeted Raine as she opened her eyes early morning.

The sun was perched up midways in the sky, painting the sky a mellow blue color, reminding her of Xavier's eyes.

Raine blushed, burying her face into the pillow as she smiled to herself.

Xavier smirked, making his way from the doorframe to her bed, his body only covered by the navy blue sweats that hung off his chiseled waist. His abs glistened in the sunlight, his hair tamed in the perfect sexy bed-head look.

He reached out, pulling the blanket off her body and tossing it onto the ground before wrapping both of his arms around her waist, lifting her face out of the pillow and dropping her into his lap.

"Don't hide that beautiful face from me." He whispered in her ears. "How'd you sleep?"

"Alright." Raine yawned.

"That's good. I need you well rested." He kissed her forehead.

Raine yawned again. "But I'm done resting. I wanna do something fun." She pouted.

"Well lucky for you Babe, we're gunna be doing some exciting stuff today."

"Really?!" Raine said excitedly.

"Yes." Xavier nodded. "We have a very important mission to do today. It might be risky but it's crucial that we get it done. It may provide us with all of the information we need. I hate the idea of putting you in a risky situation, I need you for this. I'm gunna be with you every step of the way, though. Just know that."

"What do you mean?" Raine asked, nervousness swirling into her voice.

"We have to go into the lion's den." Xavier said, watching Raine frown in confusion. "We have to go to Charles' office."

"What?!" Raine said, pushing herself off Xavier.

"Calm down, Raine." Xavier said softly, tugging on her hand so that she could fall onto the bed. "I would never never put you in any dangerous situations. Trust me on this."

"But why... why do we have to go there?" Raine asked him hesitantly.

"I talked to Jordon this morning and he told me that Charles' house didn't have anything that crucial to the case." Xavier explained. "But he did say that Charles has another law firm in San Francisco. I think we should give it a shot."

"But you said he wasn't even here."

"He's not." Xavier nodded. "And that's why this is the perfect opportunity to look for evidence."

"But how are we even gunna get into there?" Raine asked, both horrified and confused.

"I have a plan." Xavier whispered. "But I can't do it without you. So tell me Raine, are you in?"

Raine thought for a minute. Could she say yes? Could she go into the lion's den? Could she risk it?

She wasn't sure. But what she was sure of, was that Xavier would be there with her. That he'd be there to protect her. And with that, Raine pushed all of the doubts aside, nodding her head yes as she slipped her hand into his.

"I'm in."

A grin stretched across Xavier's face at that.

"Good." He smiled. "Thanks, for trusting me."

"Of course." Raine smiled. "You are my boyfriend, after all."

"That is true." Xavier stood up. "So my beautiful girlfriend, can you please go get ready. I'm gunna make some arrangements and then we'll head out."

"I'm on it!" Raine declared, jumping out of bed.

"Good!" Xavier smiled, getting up to leave the room, but just as he was about to shut the door on his way out, he poked his head back in. "Oh and by the way, make sure to wear a loose blouse on."

"A loose blouse?" Raine frowned in confusion. "Why?"

"You'll find out soon, Little Rose." Xavier winked before heading out.

* * *

After putting on a loose blouse, as per Xavier's request, and pair of jeans, Raine was ready to go.

The duo hopped into a black SUV with tinted windows and headed over to the law firm with Nick as their trustee driver.

"Ok Babe, here's the plan: Charles isn't in his office today, but the firm itself is open. According to Nick's investigation, Charles' office is on the second floor, along with the records room and storage units." Xavier explained. "In addition to that, there's a lounge."

Raine listened attentively while Xavier debriefed her on the basic blueprint of the office and the areas they'd be searching in.

"What we need to do is get into his office. It shouldn't be too hard because no one else is on the top floor." He said. "Do you have any questions?"

"Um... how are we gunna get to the second floor?" Raine hesitantly asked, "Won't someone see us going to the top."

"I gotta plan for that too, Little Rose." Xavier winked. "But first, we need to get there first, before we initiate it."

Raine nodded, looking out the window to see the lion's den appearing.

The car slowed down to a stop and Raine and Xavier were quick to empty out. Xavier quickly discussed something with Nick before the car sped off.

"This is it?" Raine asked, looking at the small two story building that was nestled between taller skyscrapers.

"Yup!" Xavier nodded. "Ok, now quickly put this in your shirt." He said, shoving one of his soft sweatshirts into her hands.

"Xavier, it's like 200 degrees outside. I don't need a jacket."

"Babe, put it in your shirt, not over." Xavier clarified.

"What are you—"

"—Here." Xavier said, lifting Raine's blouse up and exposing her bare, toned stomach. "Like this..." He mumbled, bunching the sweatshirt into a ball before tucking it into her shirt, and pulling her blouse over, making Raine's belly look as if it were bulging.

"What the—"

"Shhhh..." Xavier shushed, before looking down at her bulging stomach. "Looks about seven, eight months, doesn't it?"

"Xavier, what the hell are you doing?!" Raine whisper-shouted, looking around to make sure no one was watching them.

"Just play along with it, ok Rose?" Xavier said. "It's a part of the plan."

"A very stupid plan." Raine glared. "This makes absolutely no sense at all!"

"Trust me, Raine. I've got it all under control." Xavier assured. "Now this is what you have to do: I'm gunna pick you up, into my arms, and you're gunna keep your eyes shut, pretending to faint. Ok?"

"But...but—" Raine stuttered, however Xavier was quick to interrupt her.

"Please Raine." He asked gently. "We don't have much time. Just go along with it. I promise we'll be ok."

"Alright." Raine said, adjusting the sweatshirt that was stuffed into her blouse.

"Thank god." Xavier muttered under his breath before holding his hands out. "Come on, Babe. Let me carry you."

Raine nodded, placing one hand on her bulging stomach and the other on Xavier's shoulder for support. Quickly, Xavier bent down, placing his arms behind her knees and lifting her up into his arms.

Raine looked up at Xavier nervously. "Are you sure about this?"

"You'll be just fine." He promised, kissing her forehead. "Close your eyes. I've got you."

The soft touch of his lips against her forehead was all she needed. Her heart trusted him. And she knew that he'd never let her down. The world was full of pain, misery and suffering, but with the help of a special someone, even that wasn't hard to tackle.

Xavier was right.

Raine was ready for anything. Absolutely anything as long as Xavier was by her side.

Quickly taking advantage of the moment, Raine pushed her body upwards, her lips landing on Xavier's cheek, quickly kissing him before she fell back into the safety of his arms, shutting her eyes.

Xavier smiled to himself, unable to hide his happiness. She trusted him. And there was nothing in the world that he wanted more.

Getting his game face on, Xavier strode into Charles' law firm with confidence, Raine nestled into his arms in her 'unconscious' state.

And now it was finally time to execute his plan.

Xavier rushed into the building, a look of panic covering his face. Quickly scanning the room, Xavier located the front desk where a lovely young lady was sitting, her eyes glued to the computer.

Frantically, Xavier walked over to the lady, beginning the first step to the mission.

"Excuse me!" Xavier said breathlessly, his face panning with concern and worry, perhaps better then any Hollywood actor. "My wife! I need help!"

Upon seeing Xavier rushing into the building with an unconscious women in his arms, the desk attendant shot out from her seat, worry and confusion evident in her eyes.

"Sir, is everything alright?" She asked, eyeing Raine's fainted form.

"I'm so sorry to bother you, but my wife's very pregnant. We were walking around and I guess she got tired and the heat wasn't helping and she just... I don't know what to do." Xavier rambled. "She's in a very fragile condition. I called my driver but he said it would take a while due to traffic. I can't bare to keep her out in the blazing sun and I don't know where else to go."

"Calm down, Sir." The lady said. By now, a couple of other people had gathered in the lobby. "Does she need medical assistance? Shall I call an ambulance?"

"No, no!" Xavier quickly shook his head. "I've talked to her doctor already. He told me to keep her in a cool, quiet location and to let her rest it out. Is it possible for you to allow us to stay her for an hour. Please, I'm begging you. She's... she's pregnant and I'm so worried, the doctor said there'd be complications and I'm freaking out!" Xavier acted to perfection.

"Alright... umm, we have a waiting lounge upstairs. The boss isn't here so no one else is there. You can take her there and wait till your driver arrives."

"Upstairs. That's great." Xavier said. "Thank you so much!"

"No problem." She waved off. "If you need anything, just let us know."

"Thank you." Xavier said gratefully.

"The stairs are right this way." She led.

Xavier nodded, following the lady up some stairs the led to the top floor. The room was empty, not a person in site. Just what they need to execute part two of the master plan.

"Here's the lounge." The lady pointed out. "You can wait here with your wife. I'll inform you when your driver arrives."

"Thank you so very much." Xavier said as the lady smiled at him before leaving.

As soon as she was out of site, Xavier lowered Raine to the ground who opened her eyes, glaring at him.

"Pregnant wife? Seriously Xavier? That was your master plan?" She glared.

"It worked didn't it?" Xavier smugly smiled.

"It was stupid." She pouted, shaking her head.

"Alright, we can argue over it at dinner." Xavier winked, quickly kissing her cheek. "Let start out mission now."

"Ok." Raine nodded, tugging the sweatshirt from under her blouse and tossing it onto the couch. "Let's check his office."

Xavier nodded, taking some door-breaking gadget out form under his coat and quickly started his work.

"What's that?" Raine asked curiously.

"A magically tool to break any lock." Xavier smirked.

"And why do you have that?"

"Uhh... cause Jordon supplies me with it." Xavier shrugged. "Babe, questions later. I promise I'll answer all of them."

"Whatever." Raine rolled her eyes. "Hurry up."

"Just one more second." He whispered, pressing his head against the door until he heard a clicking sound. "Got it!" The door flew open with a sound thud.

The room was dark, but anyone could tell that it was the boss's office. The lavish decor was fit for California's high profile lawyer, and there was no doubt about it.

"Put these gloves on." Xavier ordered, tossing her some latex gloves. "If Charles is as smart as we think he is, we don't want to be leaving any finger prints for him to find."

Raine nodded, shoving the gloves on before she got to work.

Xavier rushed to the filing cabinets while Raine tackled his desk.

After snooping around for 20 minutes frantically, Xavier slammed the drawers shut.

"There's nothing." He huffed. "Absolutely nothing of use. All of these  are full of current case paperwork."

"Nothing significant on his desk either." Raine said, looking around. "Wait a minutes, check the bookshelf." She said when her eyes fell upon a rather tall bookshelf that was in the corner.

Quickly, Xavier rushed over, scanning the books to see if there was anything that would perhaps help them get closer to Malin.

They were just about done scanning the books when Raine's eyes fell on a thick hardback book that was covered in a leather binding. Raine frowned, curiously tugging on the book to pull it out.

"Raine, what are you doing?" Xavier asked.

"Xav, this book." Raine groaning, struggling to pull it out. "It's stuck—"

Just as the word escaped her mouth, the book flung out, causing Raine to fall over with it.

Xavier was about to rush to her aid when something stopped him in the middle of his tracks.

Both him and Raine stood there, their eyes wide open as the once mounted picture frame on the front wall, slide over, revealing a secret compartment.

"A secret door!" The both said in unison.

Quickly, Raine got onto her feet, rushing with Xavier to the secret compartment that was well hidden behind the picture frame.

Although it was just a small opening, it was enough to stash a couple of files. It wasn't hard to tell that they were important. Had they not been, they'd never be stored with such precautions.

Xavier pulled one of the files, flipping through the pages frantically as Raine stood behind him, searching for something that would reveal the secrets of the past.

"These are legal documents." Xavier mumbled. "It's for some lawsuit."

"But why would Charles put them in a secret compartment?" Raine asked. "They have to be of some importance."

"I don't know." He shook his head. "It's about a lawsuit filed by a private company against some other company called Cyber Soft. Apparently a violation of privacy and theft of confidential information through secured servers was reported against Cyber Soft company."

"Cyber Soft..." Raine mumbled. She didn't know why, but the name seemed to ring a bell.

"The private company is unnamed." Xavier continued. "There's nothing on it. This bill though, has a payment receipt on it... Someone by the name of Killian Hawthorn paid."

"Cyber Soft?" Raine questioned. "That names sound... familiar."

"Really?" Xavier asked, turning to Raine. "Think Raine, where did you hear this name?"

"Cyber Soft... I... wait a minute, Xavier I think that's the company Mom and Dad used to work at!" Raine exclaimed, her eyes wide with shock.

"Are you sure?" Xavier confirmed.

"Yes!" Raine nodded hurriedly. "I've seen this logo before! It's was on Mom's computer and work badge! I've seen it on Dad's papers too!"

"What about Killian Hawthorn?! Have you heard of him before?" Xavier asked.

"No..." Raine thought. "It doesn't ring a bell. But Cyber Soft for sure! It's the company my parents worked at! There's no doubt about it."

"Then these papers are very important." Xavier said.

"Read them!" Raine urged. "Why was there a lawsuit against Mom and Dad's company and what does Charles have to do with it?"

"Raine, lets take some pictures of all the documents." Xavier suggested. "We can review them later on. But we need to get as much information out of here while we have the chance."

"Ok." Raine nodded. "I'm gunna look around and see if there's anything else we can find."

As the clicking sound of Xavier's phone capturing the essence of the documents they had found, resounded in the room, Raine scanned the office for any other possible spots that may hold pieces to the puzzle they had found themselves in.

Raine was passing by the door when a wired trash bin caught her eyes. She looked down into it, seeing a couple of empty cups and scraps. But scrunched at the bottom, was a piece of paper.

"I think I found something." Raine called out to Xavier as she dug into the bin, pulling it out.

Unraveling the piece of paper the best she could, Raine put it under the light to read it.

"What's that?" Xavier asked, approaching her from begind.

"I don't know." Raine shrugged. "I found it in the trash. It looks like an flight confirmation."

They both quietly read the page, frowning.

"It's for some guy named Chadwick Knight." Raine said, about to toss the paper back into the trash.

"Wait, wait!" Xavier stopped her. "Look at the dates. Don't they seem a little suspicious to you?"

"What's wrong with them?" Raine shrugged.

"Raine, the arrival date is just four days before the first text message you received from Malin." Xavier pointed out. "There's no way that can be a coincidence."

"It's a one way ticket." Raine said. "Do you think it's really Malin?"

"I can't give you a guarantee but I'm damn sure it's him." Xavier declared. "Why else would Charles have a copy of it?"

"If it really is Malin, that means he's still in New York." Raine suggested. "Unless he flew back under a different name."

"I'll have Jordon check with the air traffic control." Xavier said. "We can see if any flights with a passenger by the name of Chadwick Knight took any flights out of New York."

"That's a good idea." Raine nodded. "Check if anyone by that name is staying in any hotels too."

"I'm on it!" Xavier said. "Let's wrap things up here."

"Shut off all the lights and put the papers back in that secret hiding spot." Raine ordered. "I'm gunna put that book back and throw this ticket back into the trash."

"Ok." Xavier nodded, getting straight to work.

After taking one last long look at the files that he had found in the secret compartment, he shoved them back from where he had gotten them, making sure to leave everything just as he had found it.

Raine put the book that has opened the secret passage back in its slot in the bookshelf and tossed the flight confirmation paper back into the trash.

"All done?" Xavier asked, looking around the office to make sure there was nothing out of place, he wrapped his arm around Raine's waist.

"Yeah." Raine nodded, laying her head on his shoulder, exhausted by the amount of running around they'd been doing.

"Great, let's get—" Xavier started, only to stop his thoughts when the sound of footsteps interrupted him.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Raine's eyes widened in shock as soon as the sound registered his mind.

"Shit!" They both hissed together.

"Let's get out of here!" Xavier whisper-shouted, grasping Raine's hand and pulling her out the office, locking the door on his way out. Raine quickly jumped onto the sofa that she had been laying on. As Xavier paced around, waiting for the person to come back up.

"Raine!" Xavier suddenly ran towards her. "Your baby!"

"What?"

"Your baby bump." He hissed, quickly rolling up his sweatshirt and stuffing it in her blouse once more.

He was just adjusting her bulging stomach when a voice interrupted them.

"Sir?" The lady interrupted. "Is your wife better now?"

"Yes! Yes!" Xavier stood up, standing behind Raine with a hand on his shoulder. "She just woke up."

"Hello." Raine said softly.

"Hello Miss." The lady smiled. "Nice to know you're doing well. Your husband was so worried."

"I'm sure." Raine blushed looking up to Xavier.

"Well, I just came to tell you that your driver has arrived. He's waiting downstairs."

"That's great." Xavier nodded. "Thanks for telling us. Let's go Babe." Xavier said turning to Raine.

Gently cradling her back into his arms, he picked her up effortlessly. Raine held onto her 'baby bump' with one hand and held onto Xavier with the other, smiling to himself as he carried her down the steps and through the lobby.

"Thanks for everything." Xavier greeting one last time before slipping out the building.

Nick was standing there with their black SUV. As soon as he saw the couple, he quickly rushed to open the door so they could both slip in.

As soon as the door shut close, Raine's baby bump disappeared into thin air and laughs from both her and Xavier, filled the car.

"Shall I even ask what's going on?" Nick said from the driver seat.

"Long story." Xavier and Raine chucked together.

"We'll explain everything as soon as Jordon comes back." Xavier notified. "Take it to the hotel for now."

"Mission Impossible?" Xavier smirked, looking back at Raine.

"How about mission accomplished!" She giggled.

"Oh and by the way, Little Rose," Xavier said. "You look cute with a baby bump."

"Shut up!" Raine blushed, digging her head into Xavier's chest.

Xavier chuckled, leaning down to kiss the top of her head.

"Oh Raine." He whispered, grinning to himself as he watched the building pass by.

Maybe her life wasn't perfect. Maybe it was full of demons and devils. But with him, it was everything she'd dreamt of.

And maybe his life wasn't perfect. Maybe it was full of pain, betrayal, and loneliness. But with her, it was everything he'd dreamt of.
