"Hey, girls. Why don't you go play in the backyard after you eat?" I see their faces light up and turn to Violet.
"Can we, Mom," I see Violet smile.
"I don't see why not," I hear them squeal, and they run off to clean and play outside.
"Now, what's important to tell me you sent the kids outside?" I grab my plate of waffles and sit down. I sigh.
"When I got out of the shower, Dave was blocking me and saying some weird stuff," I see Violet sigh.
"He has been off recently. Dave told me he wanted another kid, and honestly. I don't think I have it in me to have another kid. We definitely don't have enough rooms in the house for another kid."
"Why don't you tell him no?" I look at Charlotte eating berries.
"I don't want to disappoint him. If I say no, then he'll point out that I have two girls. Dave wants a boy. That's why he's acting so weird. I know it," I roll my eyes.
"I have a feeling something else is going on."
"I assure you, nothing is going on," I smile at Violet.
"Okay, sis. I believe you, but I'm keeping my eye on Dave," I hear Violet chuckle.
"That's fine by me. I need to go to the store. Do you and Charlotte want to come and help? If you don't, I completely understand why," I chuckle.
"I would be happy to go to the store with you," I see Violet smile.
"Great. I'll take a quick shower, and then we can drop the kids off at school and go to the store. Can you watch the kids while I take a shower?"
"Sure. I'm sure Charlotte and I can handle two kids while you shower," I see Violet smile.
"All right, I'm going to shower. I should be out in ten minutes, but call me if you need anything."
"Okay, take your time," I watch Violet go upstairs. I look outside and see the girls playing on the swing set.
"Do you ever think about having kids?" I look at Charlotte crazy as I take a bite of delicious waffles.
"No? What made you think of that?"
"I don't know. Watching the girls made me think one day. We might settle down and have a little spawn of our own. Kayla looks like a split image of Violet, and I see a little of you in her. Tia looks mostly like Dave, but she has Violet's spirit. Then, again, Mr. Winters isn't a kid person. Maybe Evan is?" I laugh.
"Can you imagine Mr. Winters with kids and Evan? I don't know about Evan. I haven't learned anything about any of them that much. Evan seems nice, but I feel something's too good about him. I do know one thing, though," I hear Charlotte chuckle.
"What's that?"
"We definitely don't need another Charlotte and Evangeline running around," I hear Charlotte laugh.
"Especially a little Evangeline. Can you imagine how bossy she would be?" I laugh, and it hits me.
"Charlotte, how long do you have to take Plan B?"
"Evangeline! You didn't use a condom!" I shush her.
"I don't need Violet to hear, and yes. He didn't use a condom. So, how long for Plan B?"
"I think it's two or three days. You should be fine if you take it today," I sigh.
"Okay, so when Violet goes to the store. I need your help find it in the store," I hear girls outside getting rowdy.
"It looks like the girls are getting into an argument. We better separate them. I've seen how you and Violet fought when you two were little, and it isn't pretty," I laugh. Charlotte and I go outside.
"What's going on out here?"
"Tia won't stop trying to steal the swing from me when she knows she's too little to swing on it."
"Nu huh, I'm not too little. Momma said I'm old enough."
"No, you're not. You don't know how to do it," I chuckle.
"Woah, you two. Settle down. Tia, why do you want to swing on the big girl swing?" I see Tia look down.
"Because Ka does it."
"So you only want to do it because Kayla does it?" Tia nods.
"Tia, you have to be on your swing because Kayla's swing doesn't support your back. When you fly in the air on the swing, don't you want to lean all the way back?" Tia nods her head.
"Kayla, why don't you be a big sister and push Tia on her swing? Maybe you two can take turns pushing each other on your swings." I see Tia light up.
"Okay, but Tia goes first because she's slow at pushing me, and I want my turn faster," I chuckle.
"That's the spirit!" Charlotte and I go inside and finish eating. I see Violet walking downstairs and into the kitchen.
"Sorry, I took so long. Dave called me, and we got into an argument. Are you ready to go to the store?"
"Yeah. Let me grab my bag, and I'll go," I go upstairs to my room and grab my bag. I stare at the blanket on my bed. I take a deep breath and leave the room.
"I'm ready."
"Okay. Let me call the girls in," Violet opens the screen door.
"Girls, come get ready to go to the store," I see Kayla help Tia out of her swing, and they both run inside.
"Mom! Mom! Mom! Did you see me? I flew high into the air!" I see Violet gasp.
"You did! That's awesome! Now, put on your shoes while I help your sister put hers on," Violet grabs a pair of purple shoes and puts them on Tia.
I help Kayla tie her pink shoes, and Kayla hops on me. Violet carries Tia to the big suburban. I see Charlotte grabbing our things while I'm getting Kayla. I see Violet buckling in Tia.
"How do you buckle this car seat," I try to buckle Kayla in, but the buckle won't snap. Violet laughs.
"You buckle the middle first and then the two at the bottom," I buckle in Kayla. While making sure everything was secure.
"How was I supposed to know?" Violet and Charlotte laugh.
I roll my eyes and sit in the back with the girls while Charlotte sits up front. I see Violet go inside and come out with two backpacks.
"All right, everyone buckled in?" I hear Kayla, Tia, and Charlotte say yes.
"Then let's head out," I hear the car start, and Violet starts driving.
We arrive at the school and Violet parks. I see Violet get out and unbuckle Kayla while I unbuckle Tia. I watch Violet get Kayla, and I get Tia. I walk with Tia, and Violet walks with Kayla while Charlotte walked in the middle. We walk into the school to Tia's classroom first.
"Okay, here we are. Mama loves you two sooo much," I see Violet kiss Tia and Kayla. I see her adjust the girl's clothes. I watch as they run into classrooms next to each other.
"They're getting big."
"I know! Kayla's already five and in kindergarten, and Tia's already four and in pre-k. I miss them already. Let's go before I start crying," We walk out of the school and back in the car.
"So, how long is the store away?"
"It's about thirty minutes away."
"Thirty minutes? Holy shit," Violet chuckles
"It's not far. It's the best supermarket in town that sells everything?"
"Can we get candy?" I look at Charlotte, and I hear Violet laugh.
"Of course, we're getting candy. The girls love candy, and to my surprise, Kayla is allergic to chocolate just like you, Evangeline," I chuckle.
"She gets it from the best," I hear Violet laugh.
"So, what's the argument with Dave about?" I see Violet roll her eyes.
"Dave wanted me to put the kids in daycare. He said he and I would have more alone time and wanted me to work again to afford another kid. So I blew up on him. I said another person isn't going to take care of my kids. I do not trust a stranger to take care of my kids. I don't care if they have a degree from a tablet. They are not going to a daycare."
"You tell him. Do you remember Aunt Sarah?"
"How could I forget? Sarah used to come over every Christmas and give us a mug. What kid wants a fucking mug for Christmas? Dad let her watch us once while he went to the store, and you know who had busted a plate over your head. Dad never let Aunt Sarah visit again because you know who lied and said Aunt Sarah did it to you," I laugh.
"Yeah, she was the worst, and I still have that scar on my forehead," Violet and Charlotte laugh.
We arrive at the store, and Violet parks the car. We follow Violet into the store.
Violet grabs a cart and pushes it as we follow her. We enter the store and look around. Damn, this is a really huge place. We follow Violet to the food section.
"You and Charlotte pick out whatever you want, and I'll get it," I look around.
"Really?"
"Yeah. You know I have the money to afford it."
"So, I can get a cappuccino machine if I want to?"
"Sure. Although, I would ask how you'd take it on an airplane to your apartment," I chuckle.
"I'd find a way," I watch Violet pick more food out. I look at Charlotte, and she nods.
"Charlotte and I are going to go grab something. We'll be back in a jiffy."
"Okay, you know what aisle I'm at," Charlotte grabs my hand and leads me to the other side of the store.
"Do you know where it is?" I see Charlotte looking at her phone.
"On the app, it says it's supposed to be in one of these isles," I look at the signs above the isles.
"Look, on that sign, it says pregnancy tests. Do you think it might be down there?"
"Only one way to find out," Charlotte leads me down the aisle and gasps.
"What?" I look in front of Charlotte and see Violet. Violet looks at me, confused.
"What are you doing down this aisle?"
"I could say the same thing. Didn't you say in the car that you didn't want any more kids?"
"Well, Dave wanted to try for another baby. So, I guess we're trying for another baby. My question is, what are you doing down this aisle? Are you pregnant?"
"Oh, hell no. I need the pill, or I'm going to be pregnant," I pick up a Plan B, and I hear Violet chuckle.
"That's the cheapest one there is. If you want one to make sure you don't get pregnant, then you need the twenty-five one," I look at Violet like she's crazy.
"Twenty-five dollars? That's expensive as hell," I hear Violet laugh.
"If you want the best one, then get this one. Plus, twenty-five in Canadian dollars is about eighteen seventy-five in American money," I roll my eyes.
"That's still a lot for one pill," Violet chuckles.
"I'll buy it for you," I see her grab the twenty-five dollar one and two pregnancy tests.
"Why are you getting two?" I see her look at me.
"Just in case," I roll my eyes.
Charlotte and I follow Violet throughout the store while she picks food, and we grab some food, too. After watching Violet pick out food, she takes us to the checkout line. Charlotte and I help her put food on the line. I watch the lady scan each item thoroughly.
"Your total is two-hundred-nine dollars. Will you be paying with cash or credit?" I look at Violet, shocked.
"Credit," I see the cashier push buttons, and Violet swipes her card.
The cashier hands her the receipt, and she pushes the groceries while Charlotte and I follow her to the car. Charlotte and I load the groceries, and I get in the front seat while Charlotte gets in the back. I see Violet get on the driver's side and start driving.
