"Did you order the food?"
"Of course. From the day we've had, we need some fuel."
We both sit on the couch and hear the doorbell ring. Charlotte answers the door. I see her grab the food and come back to sit next to me.
We eat our food while watching TV and lying next to each other. As the hours pass, I look at the time and see it's time to get ready.
"I'm going to brush my teeth and get ready. You coming?"
"Yeah, I'll get ready in a minute. Let me finish this show first."
"Okay," I brush my teeth and walk into my bedroom. I grab my brush and start combing my hair. I see Charlotte walk into the room and stare at me and the brush.
"What?"
"I need this," Charlotte snatches my brush and runs off.
"Charlotte, get back here with my brush!" I yell loudly and chase after her.
I chase her around the couch and tackle her on it. I play fight, her for my brush, and I fall onto the floor.
"Time out. That hurt my back. You win this time."
"I bet you weren't complaining about being on your back when Mr. Winters was on top of you," I stare her down. Oh, she did not say that.
I chase after Charlotte and into the bedroom. I chase after her around the bed and trap her in a corner. I see her try to crawl around the bed, but I tackle her and fight for the brush. I pull the brush out of her hands with a strong one pull, and I got it.
"HA! I win!" Charlotte laughs, and I laugh.
"Why the hell were you after my brush anyway?" I gasp for breath, being out of air.
"Yours was closer," I see Charlotte gasping for air, too. I roll my eyes.
"Go get your brush, and come help me with my makeup," I hear Charlotte chuckle as she leaves. I comb and curl my hair as I see Charlotte enter the room again.
"Okay, what kind of makeup look do you want?"
"Suprise me. Whatever goes well with the dress," I see Charlotte smile and start the makeup.
She finishes my makeup, and I look in the mirror.
"Oh my damn. This look looks amazing. I love the wine red lipstick."
"I knew you would. It matches our black dresses really well."
"You always know me best," I grab the shopping bag and pull out a fancy box.
I open the box and see a gorgeous black dress. I pull the dress out.
"Uh, Charlotte. This dress isn't the same dress I picked out."
"It's not?" I see Charlotte smiling while doing her hair.
"You switched them! I wondered why it was so expensive, but I have to say. This dress is way much nicer than the one I picked."
"Right? I knew you'd like it. It cost only a hundred dollars more."
"A hundred dollars?" Charlotte gives me a don't you dare look.
"Oh, I mean. Oh, yeah. Totally. Only a hundred dollars. That's not a bad price," Charlotte laughs.
"Go try it on and quit complaining," I laugh and then strip.
"I didn't say strip in here," I laugh.
"You deserve it!"
I slide the dress on and put my arm through the sleeve.
"Can you zip me up?"
"Sure," I turn around and hold my hair while Charlotte zips me up.
I adjust my boobs and look in the mirror.
"You look stunning. That dress brings every curve out of you. Just wait," Charlotte digs in the shopping bag and pulls out two boxes.
"Open them," I open one box. I fold the plastic to reveal white gloves and a matching necklace with earrings.
"Oh, Charlotte. They're beautiful."
"I saw them and thought of you. I knew you'd love it," Charlotte puts it on me.
"Now open your last box to finish the look," I open the second box and reveal a white and black bag with a long strap.
"This bag is stunning."
"I thought you'd love it, too. It was the most expensive one. It was worth us looking fabulous," I roll my eyes.
"Get ready. I'll meet you in the living room," I pack my bag with my cell phone and some lipstick and walk to the living room. I slip on my sneakers.
"You're wearing those?"
"Of course. Just because my body looks good doesn't mean my feet can't be comfortable," I see Charlotte roll her eyes, and she puts on high heels.
"You ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," I take a deep breath.
"Let's go," Charlotte wraps her arm around mine and leads me out the door and into the room across from us.
"Holy-" I look around the apartment we step foot inside.
The first thing I see when I walk in is a massive chandelier that hangs above what looks to be a ball-size living room. Many people, ranging from rich-looking Businessmen with their spoiled wives to fancy-looking single people in sharp tuxes, all fill the room chatting.
Some stopped to stare while others were still talking to each other. I see Evan drinking a glass of champagne while talking to Businessmen. They're standing next to a large and expensive-looking fireplace.
"Look, there's Evan. A lot of people showed up to his party, huh?" I point at Evan. I see him smile and start walking towards us.
"There you two are. You two look stunning as ever," I see Evan look at me, smiling.
"Well, you know it's not a party unless we're here," I hear Evan chuckle.
"You two have fun. I'll join you later on," Evan winks at me, and I watch him walk back to the important-looking Businessmen.
"You want to go get drunk and light this party up?" I chuckle.
"Of course!" Charlotte leads me through a crowd of people to a table of champagne.
"Bottoms up," Charlotte hands me the champagne, and I chug the first glass.
"That's the spirit!"
"You know, I'm starting to feel better. Let's go dance!"
I grab Charlotte's hand and take her to the dance floor. She hands me another drink. I chug it down while dancing with Charlotte to the beat of the music.
As the music changes to romantic, Charlotte grabs my hand.
"May I have this dance?" I hear Charlotte say in a deep voice.
"Why, certainly, sir," I giggle and take her hand.
"By the way, I don't know how to dance to this song."
"Shh, neither do I. Just go with it," She tries to lead me in the dance and steps on my foot.
"Ouch. Your damn heels are, clomping, on my feet," I hear Charlotte laugh.
"Sorry to party, but may I have this dance," I look over and see Evan trying to steal me away.
I look at Charlotte for permission, and I see her shake her head yes, fast. I grab Evan's hand, and he pulls me away from Charlotte.
Evan places his hand on my waist and gently pulls me close. He takes my hand and leads me in a dance. The touch of his hand on my waist sends sparks up and down my spine.
"Did I pull you too close? I don't want to make you uncomfortable," Heavens knows I want to say yes, but his good-smelling cologne makes me want to ease all my pain away. I lay my head on his shoulders.
"It's okay," I lift my head and look into his shining brown eyes.
"Did you plan this song?" He smiles.
"I might have, but who knows? Everyone at this party needed a break from talking to dance anyway," I chuckle.
"What do you mean, everyone? I was boogying it down with Charlotte," Evan smiles.
"I know. I can tell. You guys were the only ones dancing. I must say your dance moves are particularly unusual. I have never seen a woman dance so terribly," I chuckle.
"Well, you knew what you were getting when you put dancing music on. I feel sorry for you asking me to dance because I'm such a terrible dancer," I see Evan smile.
"I'll ask you in a crowd of people any day," Damn, that was smooth. I feel my cheeks flush.
"Well, you obviously can spot me in a crowd," Evan swings me into a spin. When I'm close to him, he dips me down. I feel my eyes open wide.
"How can I not? You're irresistible," I see him lean close and kiss me. I give. I kiss him back, closing my eyes to the moment.
I hear glass shatter. My eyes shoot wide open as Evan stops kissing me and lifts me. I hear everyone gasping as I look at the noise maker. I feel my stomach drop. Why is Mr. Winters here?
I see glass and alcohol on the floor Mr. Winters's hand is dripping blood from breaking the glass. Oh shit.
"I'll get the first aid kit from my apartment. I'll be back," I quickly walk to my apartment, fumbling with the key to get in and run to the cabinet.
I accidentally hit the door on my head when opening it and grabbed the kit. I run back to Evans's apartment and quickly walk to Mr. Winters.
"Let me see your hand," I see him stare at me angrily and say nothing.
"I said let me see your hand," I hear him say nothing, so I grab his hand and look at it.
"It looks pretty bad. Come on, let's go to the restroom and clean you up," I grab Mr. Winters's arm and pull him, and he doesn't hesitate.
I pull his hand upstairs and search for a restroom.
"There has to be a restroom somewhere in this place."
"It's down the hall to your left," I jump at Evan's voice. Shit, man. People can't be sneaking up on me like that.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I'll bring you a towel to help."
"Okay, thanks," I lead Mr. Winters down the hall, into the restroom.
I close the door and lock it once we're in. I make Mr. Winters sit on the toilet as I try to get on my knees. Damn, this stupid dress. I grab the scissors, cut the dress on the side, and rip it a little to get on my knees.
"You know, that's a six thousand dollar dress you just ruined," I roll my eyes.
"It's just a piece of cloth. Besides, if I can't get on my knees in a dress, then I don't need it."
"I need you to wash your hand under the water for me," I watch as he puts his hand under the water, and blood washes away from the wounds.
"There's pieces of glass in your hand. I have to remove them before I stitch them up. I have to warn you, this is going to hurt," Mr. Winters sits in silence as I take that as an answer.
I gently remove a piece of glass. I see Mr. Winters's eyes squint as if he's flinching.
"So you do feel pain," I see him roll his eyes, and I continue to remove the glass.
"Of course, I feel pain. I'm human, too. Why do people like you think I don't feel pain," I look into his eyes.
"What do you mean people like me?"
"People like you assume and think they know a person. They use you and get under your skin."
"How the hell did I use you?"
"Oh, please! Don't you give me the innocent act! You used me to get your way around the club, stop people from getting fired, and get bonus money. Don't make me mention the faking sleeping in until morning to get off a shift."
"First off, I try not to get people fired because your spoiled ass has no idea what it's like to live without a job. Second, I work my ass off in that club every day, and do you know what kind of people I have to deal with?"
"I'm tired constantly because this job doesn't pay enough to cover for a living! You're lucky I even offered to help you. Knowing your reputation, everyone in the room is scared of you. They were standing there gasping and staring at you. They're too afraid to even touch you!" I take a deep breath as I hear a knocking on the door.
