"Yep, it's broken."

"Broken?" I look at the doctor like he is crazy. I see Evan with a worry look.

"You see here. Your wife broke her ankle at the Calcaneous bone. See here, a small crack in the bone."

"How can she still walk if it's broken?"

"Well, you see, Mr. Stone. The muscles and tendons in the ankle support the bone to where she can put weight on it, but not much."

"She might be limping, but I suggest only putting a little pressure on it until it's healed. Don't worry. Your wife can be working and being a Housewife in no time. Until it's healed, she'll have to wear a cast."

I can feel the words the doctor is saying fly over my head, and all I can think of is one thought. Rebecca.

"Oh, he's not my husband, but thank you for the advice and time."

"Really? You two would make such a lovely couple," I roll my eyes.

"Yes, I'm sure. We're just friends. Also, just because I'm wearing a dress doesn't mean I'm a housewife. It's rude to insist I would be. In fact-"

"Well, thank you for the diagnosis, doctor. I think we'll take the cast now," I see him nod and leave the room.

"I had him, you know. I was going to tear a new one in him for being sexist," I hear Evan chuckle.

"I know. That's why I had to stop it before there was a fight, and the doctor ended up suing us," I laugh.

"Well, it would be his fault," I see him smile.

I see the nurse come in.

"Hello, darling. I'm Cindy, and I'll be putting on your cast today. What color would you like?" I see her handing me all the colors they have.

"Look, they have Red," I hear Evan say.

"I'll take dark blue," I see Evan look confused.

"Okay, good choice."

The nurse wraps my ankle up, and we get discharged. Evan wheels me out in a wheelchair to his car and helps me in.

"I can get in myself. You don't have to carry me in it," I hear Evan laughing.

I roll my eyes and get in his car. He closes the door for me, gets in, and starts driving.

"You need a normal car," I hear him laugh.

"A normal car? What's wrong with this one?"

"It's too nice. It screams to all the girls that you are rich," I hear him laugh.

"The only two women who've been in my car are my mother and you."

"Now you're just trying to flatter me."

I see Evan look over at me and see me rubbing my arm.

"Are you cold?"

"A little. One smart thing about wearing a dress is you don't have any leg or arm coverings. It doesn't help that I forgot a jacket, too."

"One thing about a nice car is heating air and seat warmers," I see Evan push two buttons, and the car starts to warm.

I lay my head on the window. I can feel myself dozing off.

"So, do you have a dress for the party tomorrow?"

I shake my head no, and that's the last thing I hear from drifting off into slumber.

Falling. Slowly falling in water, drifting down. I'm not drowning this time?

"Evangeline?" I hear Evan's comforting voice.

"Evangeline?" I suddenly shoot up from the water and startle awake.

"Are you okay, Evangeline?"

"Are we here?"

"Yes. You fell asleep on the way here. You were sleeping so peacefully. I didn't want to wake you. You were also doing a cute little snore," I roll my eyes.

"I don't snore," I hear him laugh.

"Okay, princess. Sure, you don't. Are you ready to go inside?"

"Yeah, it's best to go inside before I fall asleep again," I hear Evan laugh.

I open the car door and try to stand up. I start to fall, and Evan catches me.

"Woah, there. You almost lost your balance," I feel an arm go under my legs and lift me.

"Evan! I can walk. You don't need to carry me."

"Nope. I can't take another chance that you'll fall and hurt yourself," I roll my eyes.

"Ugh, fine, but I'm not paying you for carrying me," I hear his chuckle.

"That's all right with me."

As he carries me to the elevator, I look at the arms wrapped around me. I see his muscles and veins bulging as he holds me. I lay my head on his shoulder. I can smell his aroma mixed with his expensive perfume. It makes me want to melt.

"I swear we always get closer and closer to each other, and this time, I can smell you. I bet you'd smell like me at the end of the night," I see him smile.

"I'd be fine with smelling you at the end of the night," I roll my eyes, and the elevator doors open at the main lobby.

"What are we doing at the main lobby?"

"I don't know. The elevator doors just opened here. I think someone's getting on."

I look around in the main lobby and see Charlotte flirting with Derek.

"Charlotte, get your gorgeous ass over here," I see Charlotte turn around, and her face lights up when she sees me.

I see her face turn into an angry look. Uh oh. I think she's mad because Evan's carrying me. How am I going to explain this?

As I watch Charlotte head towards us, I see behind her Eric standing next to Derek. From the expression on his face, I think he's about to explode from anger and jealousy. The elevator door closes, and I look at Charlotte.

"So, how was work?"

"Fine," She didn't even look at me when she replied. I messed up this time.

The elevator doors opened, and we went out to Julie's door. I see Charlotte knock. I see Julie answers with a big smile.

"Come in, Darlings. Charlotte, it's so good to see you."

I see Charlotte go in first and kiss Julie on the cheek. I see a smile form on Julie as she sees Evan holding me. Evan walks in with me and sets me on the couch. I see Charlotte notice my ankle brace as Evan sits next to me. I see Julie hand us each a cup of tea.

"You went to the doctor?" I hear Charlotte say as a worried look appears on her face.

"Yeah, Julie forced me to go," I look at my tea in disappointment.

"What'd they say?"

"They said it was a tiny crack in the ankle bone. Also, the doctor was sexist."

"Did you tell him off?" I hear Julie and Charlotte say.

"I was going to, but Evan stopped me and said he didn't want a fight."

"That makes me so mad when rich people think they can get their way and say anything just because they're rich."

"It's alright, Charlotte. I didn't want to get banned from the hospital anyway. So I'm glad Evan stopped me," I see Charlotte's expression get mad.

"Dinner's done. Come get some food before it gets cold."

I get up and hobble to the dinner table. I see Evan watching me like a hawk. I sit next to Julie at the four-chair table. I see Evan sitting across from me, and Charlotte sits beside him.

The tension in the air is so thick you can cut it with a rope. I make my plate and try not to make eye contact with anyone. I see Julie looking at us back and forth. I think she knows what's going on.

All of us are eating, and no one's saying a single word. Evan is staring at me, and Charlotte is staring at Evan. I'm going to get yelled at for that one. Charlotte finished eating first and quickly left.

"I better get going. That was the best food I've had in a long time. Thank you for having me, Julie."

"My pleasure, Evan. It was nice meeting you. Come back anytime if you want a meal or to talk about having grandbabies with Evangeline."

"Julie!" I see Evan chuckle, look at me, and smile.

"I'll think about it," I see Evan leave, and I look at my food, poking it.

"What's wrong, dearie?" I sigh.

"Charlotte is mad at me because she saw Evan carrying me. She likes Evan. The other day, she was trying to get his number. It's not like I asked him to carry me. He wouldn't let me walk, and I couldn't walk without falling."

"The funny thing is, I'm starting to like him. I don't want to like him, but I do, and I can't like him because Charlotte already claimed him as hers. I don't know what to do," I lay my head on the table.

"Honeybun, it's okay to like someone. Don't beat yourself up for liking someone. The human heart has its ways and can lead you in different directions. When someone claims a person, but you like them. That's okay."

"You can still like them and look from afar, but you can't flirt with them. Try to distance yourself from Evan to show you're trying not to steal her man and tell her everything. Life comes in pieces like a puzzle. You have got to pick a piece to solve first before you can work the rest."

"I wasn't flirting with him. He was flirting with me," I see Julie give me the eye.

"You sure about that? I see how you two were looking at each other," I roll my eyes.

"Sure. Evan is Charlotte's, and that's all that matters. I can't do anything about it. Do you think I can get the food to go?"

"Of course, darling."

"Thanks for everything, Julie. You're the best."

Julie packs my plate, and I kiss her on the cheek. I go back to my apartment and walk in. I see Charlotte sitting on the couch, watching television.

"So, are you mad at me?" I see her nod.

"Is it because you saw Evan carrying me?" I see her nod again.

"Listen, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have got close to Evan when he's yours. I tried to keep him in the friend zone, but he kept flirting, and I tried my best to avoid and get away from him," I see Charlotte look at me.

"You tried to avoid him for me?"

"Yes. It was hard, too. Evan kept trying to get closer to me," I hear her laugh.

"I've decided something. If Evan doesn't want me, I'm not forcing him to be with me. I'm going to let it happen. If he wants to be with you, that's fine, but I hope he chooses me," I chuckle.

"Okay. Are you still mad at me?"

"No. I've decided to let you slide this time. If I see another hunk, I can't promise I let it go that easy."

"Okay. I promise I won't interfere. Now, are you ready for bed?"

"Oh, yes. I've been dying to take a shower and go to sleep all day."

I see Charlotte get in the shower while I change into pajamas. I open the window and snuggle in bed. I start to fall asleep. I see Charlotte come out of the shower and snuggle with me in bed as I fall asleep.

I can feel myself falling into the deep and drowning in the void. Gasping for air, I can feel my heart racing. I look around and see nothing around me. I feel something grab my leg and pull me deeper into a hole.

I suddenly sit up awake at the sound of my alarm.

"Mmm, Eva, turn it off," I look over at Charlotte and see her covering her face with her pillow. I hit her with my pillow.

"Ouch, what the hell," I laugh.

"Time to wake up, sleepy head. You promised you would see Dad with me," I hear her sigh.

"Can't I do it tomorrow?" I see her roll over away from me.

"Fine, but I'm kicking you out of bed tomorrow if you don't get up."

"Fine. Can you turn the alarm off now?" I roll my eyes and turn the alarm off.
